I'm DIYing currently and I keep getting this weird dry taste at the back of my mouth from my mixes. I can't place it. All ingredients, quantities are good, but it's just this aftertaste that gets me. Steeping these for quite some time, also using ultrasonic cleaner too. Anyone else come across this, and any ideas what it might be?

Cheers!

All good suggestions. I find there is a point where flavors go from great to "meh". Maybe start out with smaller %'s of flavors and work up to find the spot where your tastebuds are content. I also find that most of the fruit flavorings are just shake & vape. It could just be the flavorings themselves. I have been really pleased with the super concentrated and gourmet flavorings at vaping Zone. Everyone is so different and you just have to be patient with yourself and keep on trying. The end results are worth the aggravations. Good luck to you and I hope you find your happy place soon. :)

Dry mouth results from dehydration and it is PG which causes that - it's very common for vapers. ALL vapers should drink a lot more water. Also a small percentage of people are allergic to PG and get various reactions - they need to switch completely to VG.

I've had that from bad nic solution and bad vg or PG can cause it. Try vaping just the VG, PG alone and if those are OK then vape the mixed base at your normal pg/vg concentration and NIC strength and see if that is what's causing.

Yeah I think I'm gonna try this again. DIY is a real pain the the mutts nuts, but hey, at least it's not a case of taking ages to perfect right...oh..wait. When it comes to DIY I'm currently Tim Taylor, but all I want is to be Al....

Back to the alchemist's bench for me...

And I'm the one who's vg sensitive. Went to all vg, and lordie...that wasn't good.

The water thing is partially correct. Dehydration affects the parts of our bodies differently. It's always good to replenish with more water, but when our mouths are dry, unfortunately water doesn't always help. Water doesn't create saliva, and it's the lack of saliva that makes our mouths dry. There are remedies, but water doesn't always fix it for some people.

I just realized that you were getting a weird taste and not dehydration. I'll stop rambling now =)

DIY can absolutely be time consuming and often painful, but keep at it. It does get easier...and more fun. In the beginning, my mixes were terrible!

OK, there have been several suggestions but if you still have the problem you need to provide a bit more info.

First up, you say you get the taste from your mixes, not one mix in particular. Second you call it an aftertaste - that generally is taken to mean a taste which comes with each drag after exhaling. My own response relating to dehydration was appropriate for the case where you wake up with a dry mouth, not really for an aftertaste during vaping. Different answers are more appropriate for an immediate aftertaste.

I also went through a phase of diy mixing but never had much success and eventually stopped bothering when I finally found an all day vape which suited me better than anything that I could make myself. Along the way I found plenty which felt great on the way in but not so good on the exhale, some that were opposite to that, and others were crap all the way. So, a bit more detail and somebody here will be able to help you through this.

Good luck.

Hi all, thanks for suggestions, however I've already tried them all. Really stumped here. Maybe I'm just too fussy but premades I have bought don't have this actinic/chem taste afterwards. It's at the back of my throat so not the flavour so to speak, flavour is ok, just this unrelated aftertaste.

Have you recently switched to a high PG base from vaping a high VG base liquid? Many times I hear this from vapers that are generally high VG vapers who cannow taste the staleness of PG in the liquid. Anytime I vape high PG which I rarely do unless sampling something I have exactly this kind of reaction. Its a stale taste from the PG.

I would also vape some of you plain pg or vg and some of the nic base (diluted if need be after sampling the plain stuff) to see if you can identify what might be off.

Also posting on of the recipes you have made that you feel are effected might help others help you more.

Never heard the term actinic taste before - now see that it relates to a metallic taste. The only time I have ever experienced a metallic taste from vaping was quite recently when I was checking out some wicking issues and ramped the power up gradually from about 7 watts to 15, then jumped from 15 to 20 watts which is the max from my Sigelei. The metallic taste came at 20 watts and it was obviously caused by the coil. If you have not tried already I suggest you check the wicking on whatever atty you are using and start with low power. If you have tried all of the other suggestions it really only leaves the PV or the actual mixing process, and the PV is the odds on favourite.

You may be on the right track...

I don't go above 8 watts, lol.

I've read about people getting a metallic taste from using nichrome wire.
Some have said, that is what is used on most, if not all, standard "made in china" heads, but IDK for sure.

I rip apart all the heads, that I get with new tanks, and install kanthal micro coils and organic cotton balls.

Some also complained about SS Mesh too, and went back to cotton or silica.
