As a new vaper this was my very first hardware purchase. I opted for X2 batteries, 5 XL clearomizers and 10 blank XL cartos. I've been thoroughly impressed with the SI product line and customer service thus far. Having said that, I'm running into a few issues with the new XL cartos. I've had 3 clearos and several XL cartos on rotation duty over the last 11 days and must first state that the clearos and batteries have been exceptional for me.

On the other hand, 4 of the 8 XL cartos I've used so far seem to have issues:

2 of them would not absorb any juice and the few drops I've poured in the top just sat there and pooled; an hours later the 'pooling' was still there. The filler on these seemed extremely compacted when probed with a paper clip and appeared to have a 'skin' on the top that prevented entry of any liquid. When I attempted to fill these using the condom method from the bottom, as an alternate solution, they did not seem to 'absorb' the liquid very well despite overnight soaking and gave off a burnt taste from the get go.

The other 2 seem to have the opposite problem. Liquid would absorb from the top but almost immediately run out through the bottom despite careful application of the drops . No matter how long I let them sit trying to absorb the juice they just did not seem to want to take any in and peed it out the bottom. These also tasted burnt when attempting a few vapes.

I think I'm now very familiar with the filling process and in fact, the other 4 cartos work perfectly and when they do, they're great!

All my juices are 70/30 pg/vg and do not range significantly in color or thickness.

I'll be ordering the clearos again that's for certain but hesitate on the XL cartos even though I like them, need them for their portability, and when working properly....they rock. In fact I've put through around 10ml of juice on one of them thus far and it still performs like a champ.

I'm really not interested in replacements, refunds, etc., as the cost of these is hardly worth bothering about for me. What I'm after is any insight on the inconsistencies I've experienced with these as a 50% failure rate is not something I think SI would find acceptable. Each of the 2 failures are from different packs. I was thinking perhaps a bad initial batch? I'd like to order more of these if this is a comparatively rare problem or something that has been/will be corrected.

Anyone else with similar experiences with these? Is SI aware of any generic problem with the blank XL's?

I have only filled four of the XLs so far and have had the pooling issue with them too. The first three I filled with the condom method. It was very messy and had a lot of leaking unless I let them sit for a long time and gradually added liquid to the top. Once they were saturated they worked okay. This last one I filled with a syringe and that worked much better, but again had to let it sit longer than usual and had to blow it out a little harder than usual to prevent leaking.

The filler in the ones I've used is more compacted than the regular cartos. I don't know if it's because of the way it's put into the cartos or if the 'fatter' inner tube is causing this. I guess it's because of the extra length, but I wonder if the inner tube needs to be fatter.

I'm using the one I syringe filled right now and it's working very nicely. So far no leaking, but I'm afraid to put it on an old auto yet. Will see what happens when I top it off.

I don't have any experience with the XL cartos, but I LOVE my clearos.

I keep my two X2 1300s and at least five clearos with me and filled at all times.

Keeps me vape happy and allows me to educate more frequently, as the X2 1300 and clearo combo always draws more inquiries than the standards.

I always have a package of empty cartos and a drip tip handy as well, in hopes that I get the chance to convert someone on the spot. But I don't use the cartos at all anymore, myself.

For some reason, I never tried the XL cartos. I just stick with my tried and true standard cartos. I have the feel for them now, and pretty much know when I need to make a refill or a toss. I'm happy with my X2, but I'm not really as crazy about the clearomizers as everyone else seems to be. I like them well enough, but they won't replace cartomizers with me. I use both, though.

On the other hand, I have one liquid coming to add to the one I already have that I know I will want to put only in the clearomizers, simply because I know I will marathon vape them. So, I'll have two clearomizers dedicated just to those two liquids.

Thanks kia, I'll likely be ordering the standard ones to try next time. Too bad really, as I liked the apparent extra juice volume the XL's provide.

On another note, what other tank/carto/clearo setups work well on the X2 batteries? Not to suggest that I've been less than satisfied with SI's products as it's been a good ride overall, just curious to experiment a little if others have tried something different that also works well.

I thought I was the only one!

Yes, I have had plenty of issues with the XL Blanks, like you mentioned. So far 2 were just DOA and 1 has worked well enough.

Just going to stick with regular cartomizers and when it starts getting dry, drip 5 drops on it and keep on my way. Much easier and more reliable (I've only had 2 DOA regular cartomizers out of dozens of them).

(shudder) unspeakable things.

With the order I put in for more blank cartomizers, I mentioned it to them.

Hopefully I get some sort of response!

The one that actually does work still is weird... It's like the polyfill isn't saturated at all at first and when I fill it it starts leaking almost instantly. I'm not even sure how much liquid it's actually holding!

But I do love them because of their amazing draw... Regular cartomizers are just a hair too tight for me, and the XL cartomizers are just right. Perfect amount of air and vapor.

Quick question, does anyone else feel like each cartomizer is basically a whole new experience? Some of them have great draws and heat/vapor, and some seem to have a very tight draw (Like a carto that's been used for weeks) and the vapor is there, but it's cold.

Been experimenting with plenty of different flavors, but regardless of what I put in my blanks they are always different. One has a thick 50/50 mix of Port Menthol that is great, and one I just started today on a 75/25 mix of Red Energy is already extremely tight and hard to really get a draw out of.

Absolutely. The range in QC is remarkable actually. Ranges from uselessly defective to simply outstanding in every way. See my earlier post about 4 of them failing. 2 other ones performed very well and died what I would consider a normal death after considerable use. The last 2 are like the Energizer bunny...they just keep going and are well past their lifespan but still work fantastic.

Did you ever get SI's comments on these XL's? I'd be buying tons of them if I knew they could all perform like the last two that want to last forever.
