Okay so this is going to sound very very weird but it is one thing I notice while I am vaping. So every time I goto the doctor when I have quit smoking and just vaping my blood pressure seems to be through the roof!! Well not through the roof.. high for me and my age considering i’m 22. It’s 138 over 74.... when I vape. When I smoke cigarettes my blood pressure is anywhere from 115-120 to 80. Has anyone else ran into this problem?

Not at all. I realize the medical community has recently changed what a normal blood pressure is, but 138 over 74 is not that high.

I worked in the medical community for over 30 years as a physician's assistant and RN (now retired), and we were taught to mainly focus on the bottom diastolic number (74 and 80 in your case). Any diastolic reading 90 or above was considered high blood pressure.

Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, so whether it is received via smoking or vaping or nic gum/lozenges/patch you run the risk to raise your blood pressure. Being that vaping is a safer form of nic delivery than smoking (no smoke and no combustion), I wouldn't give up vaping and go back to smoking.

As Baditude already pointed out that nicotine can raise BP. So, if your BP is higher vaping that probably means you are getting more nic from vaping than you did smoking. When you smoked, you probably only smoked about once per hour, if you are vaping constantly that could be why. Try vaping less frequently. It could also mean the nic level in your juice is too high. Try lowering it to get the same nic as you did from smoking.

I have High Blood pressure and take medication daily for it. I was smoking 1 1/2 packs a day. I have been vaping for over a year and a half. My blood pressure has actually dropped around 6 points on the high end since I stopped smoking and only vape.

So yes nicotine raises blood pressure but vaping probably not as much as smoking does.

Now if I could just lose about 30 pounds I might be able to dump the bp meds.

Nicotine and any chronic vasoconstrictor does un-intuitive things to your circulatory system over years and years, so a body having acclimated to tobacco-based constriction then reacting to a reduction in nicotine by raising the blood pressure even more is reasonable, if not logical.

I've had high BP my entire life and was just put on medication for it, despite being an ex-smoker for about 3 years by now. Ultimately the nicotine is just one factor in a very complicated web.

Just curious. But what is your Average Nicotine intake per day.

ie: How many Mill's of what mg/ml do you use in an Average Day?

When going for a medical appointment where you know (or suspect) that they will measure your blood pressure, try not to vape for at least twenty minutes beforehand - if you can manage an hour, even better! This will allow any vasoconstriction to ease and not be a contributing factor in the reading.

Just don't dose up on caffeine instead!:lol:

I suspect it has a lot to do with timing. Nicotine is short lived and why we need to constantly have more. Nicotine from smoking is absorbed quicker than vaping. By the time you get in to the Dr office after smoking your nic level may have peaked already and is on its way back down.

Hm. Chugging coffee and chain vaping till the moment I walk into the doctor's office is my m.o.

Some people have the white coat problem or whatever they call it now. Blood pressure shoots up every time a doctor takes it.

Get a good monitor if you have high blood pressure and take it at home two or three times a week. Get a decent one that keeps a record. Take you bp once or twice a day and take the device with you to the doctor.

I did and he just verified that it was giving more or less the same reading as his equipment and then accepted the week's readings for accurate.

My doc was supportive of switching from cigs to vaping. He explained that Nic is a lot like caffeine. It does temporarily tighten blood vessels and gives a slight sense of "wake-up". That is why so many drink coffee in the morning.

Speaking of coffee, what sells for coffee these days is a lot, lot stronger than coffee 50 years ago. If I had an easy, convenient choice I would probably drink hot tea. I only drink one cup a day, anyway.

I suppose a more accurate reading would be had if you stopped vaping and coffee for an hour before a BP test. Also, energy drinks. ;)
