I've been a regular smoker for about 4 years, and I recently tried to quit due to some mental issues I had a few months ago. I've been successful thus far, but I feel empty without the feeling of a cigarette in my mouth. I'm very thankful that I was able to stop, but the urge is a little too much for me to function normally. I've heard about electronic cigarettes, so I was considering investing in non-nicotine Blu Ecigarettes in an attempt to quit, but I'm only 19 and my parents watch my credit card transactions while I'm away at college. They don't know that I'm a regular smoker, and I would like to keep it that way until I've totally quit. I don't want to create any conflicts with my parents by making a purchase with Blu that they might recognize, so I would like to know how a Blu purchase appears on a bank statement. My dad was a former smoker, but he's unfamiliar with the new electronic smoking devices.

Thanks a lot, and I'm proud to have not smoked in over 4 months!

Perhaps someone who has ordered from Blu could check in on what the statement says, I personally have no idea.

If it ends up being a problem you can go to some banks, drug stores or grocery stores and trade cash for the card. If you google "prepaid visa debit cards" (minus the quotes) the first hit will be a page from Visa where you can look for locations near you for buying one in person with cash.

I realized I didn't exactly answer your question. I tried editing my post, but that doesn't appear to be an option.

Prepaid debit cards act just like a credit card so you can use them anywhere you could use a regular credit card. The difference is you load it with money like a prepaid phone and that becomes the functional limit of the card.

Thanks for the replies. I don't think opening a new bank account is an option. Although I didn't think of it, it would be too much work and would probably cost money.

At 19, I can't believe you DON'T have a bank account. Too much work? Are you kidding me? Put on the big boy shorts, take some cash to the bank, and ask them to set you up. Some banks offer free checking, but you won't know unless you ask. You can set up an account in less than an hour.

xikkub,

I don't think it really matters what MY bank statement said after I purchased my Blu -- what matters is YOUR bank. If you don't want your parents to question a purchase, don't use that credit or debit card. The prepaid debit card is a great idea. You buy it like you would a gift certificate, and you get a card that looks like any credit/debit card. Completely private, no bank statement sent.

Go to Wal Mart. They have a pre paid debit card. You give them X amount of dollars and that is what you have to spend with your card. It is really a good idea to use on of those for any online purchases. Also check out www.netspend.com I have had one of those for years.

Or you could just give a friend the cash and have him use his card to buy it for you.

You'll read a lot of posts bashing the Blu - ignore them. It is a good little e-cigarette for people that aren't heavy smokers. It fits nicely in your hand and is self contained.

Wal-Mart here has a rack near the greeting cards of pre-paid debit cards, pre-paid phone cards, and gift certificate cards from just about any major store chain you've ever heard of, in a large assortment of choices of designs. You just pick what you want and when you check out, just tell the cashier how much you want the card to be worth, then pay that amount. Couldn't be easier. No one even has to know your name.

I've used some of these prepaid debit cards before when I was vacationing in caribbean. Who knew traveler's checks are pretty much no more. Anyway I got a visa travel card it cost only a 5 dollar service fee to start it up. You take cash out of your account put it on the card the only thing that showed on my account was a 5 dollar service fee and the cash withdrawl. After that there really is no more paper trail the card works the same as any other visa it is linked to your account but once the money is on it there is no more paper trail back to your account. Like everyone else has said it really kind of functions the same as a gift certificate.

I guess I'm just the kind of person that likes to keep my checking account purchases private. My mom works where I bank and used to do the same thing, watch my account to see how much I was spending. I ended up closing that account (she was a secondary "user" as she set it up as a gift) and starting my own, to which she has no access whatsoever(because I'm family and her name isn't on it).
