ok guys i just bought some aquarium from petco.
i gotta ask this before i start burning plastic....
is blue foam organic? it seems like .....plastic mesh.
will i be huffing plastic???

Follow my directions and you'll be just fine. Really i have not experianced any foam burning till i tried high voltage.. that will heat up the atty a whole lot more then a normal 3.7v device. And that was only with the Slug as its naturally alot closer to the bottom of the atty where the coil is and hense, all the heat.

I've been using it since i started that thread long ago and have no problems. I've also use the same slugs over and over for weeks and find no problems as others have mentioned.

Wash and dry it and cut and go!

6+ volts is killing my attys so far with my new fliped over slug i call the HV slug. Pretty much gave up on getting this to work with HV.. well atleast for 6+ volts.. I'm thinking it would be great for 5v as it would really only be runing at around 4+ volts.

These mods that run dual 3v batts are actually runing 7+ volts on a full charge. Drip only at those voltages! hehe.

I use this mod and it works very well. After a little trial and error I got the size right. Too big and the draw is too stiff/tight. Too small and there is liquid everywhere. Once you get it right you will know because it just works as you think it should. For 6v, I think it is better to drip. It seems to get too hot for the blue foam. 3.7 it seems ok! Good luck!

Over a month on a "slug" made of blue foam and have never found a bad taste, never needed to pull the foam up with a pin, or wore it out. I have washed it several times, but that was to get one flavor washed out to try another.

It took several tries to cut the "perfect" piece but once I hit the sweet spot it's been the one filler I use. It's remarkable that if I vape it to near dry (slight burn taste and low vapor) when I pull it out the filler looks dry. It really pulls every last bit of available juice to the atomizer. I'm sold.

Just make sure you have a small enough piece that it's not preventing proper wicking. If you can't vape a cart dry or you're getting a bad burnt taste (from the juice getting stuck in the foam and being reheated over and over on the foam rather than flowing to the atty), you're using too much foam. If you're getting juice in your mouth or it's spilling out all over your hands, you didn't use enough (I think it's obvious that you need a piece a bit bigger than the hole in the cart, but better to say it than have some idiot think "the smaller the better").

I have a 510.
I also use the spring from Scottyballs' ADM mod, topped with little plug of blue foam about 1.5 X the size of the opening to the cart.
I usually can vape it until the whole cart is empty without topping off.
One time I think I counted about 90 to 100 "puffs" with a full cart without needing a top off.
Sometimes I'll top it off, but mostly I go till it's empty, pull the plug out, fill the cart back up with about 15 drops, and put the plug back in, good to go.

It works if you fold the foam. Cut a strip slightly wider than the cart's diameter and more than twice the depth. Fold it in half, compress it with tweezers and insert it folded end first. Trim it flush with the cart mouth with a razor blade and you're good to go. It helps with filling if you use a single drop of alcohol to "prime" the foam's surface. Otherwise it tends to bead up and pool on the surface.

Currently I'm using Aquaclear foam for 801s. This has larger cells and is more resilient than the blue type. It's harder to cut but a bit more convenient to stuff. Seems to hold slightly more and wick longer between fills. My first cart gave me 4 hrs before needing a top-off and then took 18 drops. My second cart isn't doing as well... maybe I'll do some experimentation this weekend to try for a slightly looser fill.

I was ready to give up on my 801 until I tried the Aquaclear foam. The blue foam just wouldn't work for me, I tried straws, slugs, everything, it kept flooding or running dry. Once I switched foam types I got the results I was looking for. The 801 is now almost all I use and the 510 is just for backup.

I also found that not all 801 carts are the same. I was ready to send the whole thing back when I discovered that the stock carts weren't quite long enough to reach my low bridge atomizers. New carts fixed a lot of my wicking problems. I wonder how many others have had this issue and not known...

I will definitely try this once I get to Petsmart to pick some up. I did try the PTB mod and the straw mod using the filler that came with the cart. I did notice a difference with the straw mod, but I didn't care for ptb at all. Everyone's results may vary and I thought maybe I did it wrong the first time. Tried it with two more bags and I followed right along with the videos, pausing to give me time to catch up. Honestly, I didn't find that it worked any better than the original batting and my juice seemed to last longer with the poly batting. The blue foam may be just what I am looking for.

My .02 worth:
Been using the blue foam mod for about a week now and love it! I can vape longer without topping off, no icky taste, no burnt filler taste, easy to use and economical.

I went with the blue foam after the original filler in my 901 carts died. (Only so many times you can wash it out.)

I cut the foam a little longer and wider than the cart. Then I cut the bottom to form a "V" shape. Stuff the "V" end in first, push the foam down and then trim even with the cart.

What's nice is that if the foam gets icky, or if I want to change flavors I can toss the foam and cut a fresh foam filler.

ok guys maybe i bought the wrong kind of foam. i got the marineland "rite-size" bonded filter pad from petco. it looks very generic. on one side it's blue and on the other side its white. if you look at the blue part really close you can see like little tiny sparkly paint like tiny chips that they use to make it blue. i was just concerned that i'm heating this up and smoking it. did i get the wrong foam?

Yes, you got the wrong foam. The blue foam I am using has no white side. Check out this link:

It has pictures of exactly the type of foam you need to buy.
