I have settled on a bottom coil and like it, but sometimes after a relatively short time, there's a "burnt" taste...coil problem? How long should they last before being replaced?

If I burn mine - rarely - I'll throw the coil in some high proof vodka which helps. After about three vodka baths or a change in ohms (I have an ohm meter from madvapes), I pitch it. If you're getting burnt a lot, then your resistance is too low on the coil OR you're wattage is too high if you're vaping with a VV/VW.

Nice to see you back Kent C. Nice to see members that have joined in the same year as me. This is off topic, but I remember when Kent C was giving me advice about using, and getting 510 joye cig-a-likes. Those ones with the blue light on the end. But it wasn't from the company Blu. Now we have mods and such.

As far a bottom coils are concerned. I use the Penelope RBA which is bottom coil. I was using cotton for awhile, only because cotton was wicking better than silica. But I switched back to silica after I found the Mr Krinkle method, and that solved the wicking issue. So now the silica is back and lasts longer than using cotton. I usually make a 2 ohm coil, and keep it between 8 and 9 watts. After time I will have to raise the votage/wattage, meaning that the coil is getting gunked up. If I have to raise the watts to 12 to get a decent vape, then it's time for me to change the coil.

For the OP's question....It depends on how much you vape. It could be one week using cotton. Or up to two weeks using silica. That how it goes for me anyway. And if there is a burnt taste then the power is too high. And if you only have a mech mod (non VV/VW) then the ohms may be too low.

I use evods and a protank II. A lot of people who use high VG juice claim the if they open up the atty head and remove one or two of the loose "flavor wicks" they get better performance. I found this true one time and is easy to do. I believe there are a few YouTube videos on this.

The downside is that flooding may occur, then carefully replace a wick.

Can someone explain this to me......a thicker juice and adding more wick?

    Sure, Moody!
"Thicker juice" they're talking about e-juice that has a higher concentration of VG than PG. i.e. 80% VG/ 20% PG. VG is thicker than PG. Some people even go 100% VG. Others swear that 100%VG is too thick for BCC's. I can't help you with that..most of my juice is 50/50 VG/PG.

"Adding more Wick" - If you pull the BCC center post off (the part that goes into the BCC tank), underneath it, you'll see two really small pieces of what look like string just laying on the top of the BCC. Those are flavor wicks. Underneath those is more wicking material wrapped around the heating coil. What they're saying is that you can buy "wick" (Some people like silica, some like cotton), cut a little piece of it off and add it to the existing flavor wicks.

Those guys up there are experts, way more advanced than me. They go so far as to take apart that wicking around the heating coil, and they modify the wicking on the heating coil. I'm a dumb girl lol..I just buy another five pack of BCC heads (for six bucks, I'm not worried about it) and put a new one in when the flavor is getting really muted and turning up the voltage on my Spinner doesn't help. Or all of a sudden, I'm getting very little vapor.

If you do a YouTube search on how to clean an Evod BCC Clearomizer, you can see what I'm talkin' about. That's where I learned! :)
