Probably because the juice gets thinner as it cooks and new wicking is fluffier, sometimes after I build a coil I need more wicking about half way through the tank but don't have my vaping supplies. I keep wicks cut to legnth in a folded piece of paper in my wallet and it seems to stay put, but if you've had this problem too where you need small parts but don't have anything with you, try one of these 99cent keychain pill jars from ebay keychain pill | eBay
I keep a spare coil in it because I popped one once dry burning.
I keep asprin, ibuprofen, and benadryl in another one. I haven't had any of these in like a year since trying to be as vegan & cruelty-free as possible but have un-expired leftovers. They could save a life if someone has an allergic reaction to a bee sting or something or is having a heart attack or something - make sure you get a witness to consent before givign to someone in case they die from it so you don't get manslaughter.
