I have a liking for curly maple, but i'd like to know how you made that replacement so fast?

T

Hey T,

It took me about an hour and a half to knock out the replacement body. Cut to size on the table saw, mark the centerline, mark out the dna panel, bore out the holes on the milling machine, flip over and bore out the 510 cup, flip to the side mill the cavity for the dna, remove from the milling vice swing over to the disk sander and chamfer the top for the button, hand drill the button hole, flip to the side and drill out the access hole between the 2 tubes and Bob's your uncle.

At my age you can't afford to waste time ;) It's a precious commodity :)

Captain, after your dib masterpiece you mentioned retiring the other beauties you have made. How can you possibly retire the one you made with the stainless showing through the wood and the recessed RDA? That has to be the most beautiful and unique squonker I have yet see. Just amazing work you do!

When I said I retired the other 3 I meant the other 3 dibies I made.

Steve, what finish did you use? If you used simple oil, you will see that yellow turn golden brown with age. Maybe put it on a shelf and come back to it in 6 months? I made some small boxes (not mods) with buckeye that aged to a deep golden brown over time. A bit slower of a browning than Osage Orange has, but started similar in color.

I thought of that and I agree that it will change but if you see this thing it'll need a hell of a lot of change to become acceptable

A little time on the Weber Grill will settle it down. Only flip once though, or you'll mess up the grill marks.

Too bad you don't like it. Your machining and finishing chops are top shelf.

Started on a resin cast teak BFer. It's a charm working with Alumilite resin, it machines and cuts beautifully.

The finishing of the DNA-40 mod is taking a long time, because I'm using lacquer and sanding between applications and drying times are killing me so I started the other one while I wait. It's actually not bad working on two simultaneously

Here is the resin cast teak wood mod

That looks like some cool stuff...the phenolic resin wood I've been building on lately is also a dream to machine. On the mod I'm working on now has some copper in it...did I tell you how much I HATE machining copper?

Don't you just wish you could laser cut the door out of the same block to keep the patterns?...all these new tools and the precision has made me soooo picky

Steve, I'm just about over the banana thing, but now I'm reminded of a black goo from outer space that caused this:
