Box mod question

Why are box mods that are charged directly without removing a separate battery (istick, MVP) still called mods? I thought a mod was basically a tube that holds batteries? I want to understand!

My understanding of a "mod" is anything that is not a cig-a-like. VV/VW, Mech and Box mods are all considered mods.

Mod – Dual usage – Can be used to describe modifications to a device or accessory (such as getting more vapor production out of your cartridges) or a design variation of a commonly manufactured electronic cigarette. In the latter context, mods typically use larger rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries and allow the user longer battery life and increased vapor production but at the cost of the device looking like a traditional cigarette. Many mods will also allow the user to increase or decrease the voltage of their device to achieve optimal performance.

Mod: Short for modification. This originally referred to modifying a flashlight or a battery to be used in vaping, but is now commonly used to refer to any vaping device that is not a cigalike.

So, a cigalike meaning a pen style like an ego? Or the cheap ones in the convenience stores that actually look like real cigs?

The cheap ones that look like cigarettes.

The word mod actually comes from back in the day when vapers would modify flashlights or other household items to be able to vape something else other than cigalikes with not too great of battery life. Granted the mods they would make would usually run on either 14500's or 16340 batteries, they would still last longer than the average cigalike. Hope that helps and welcome to the ECF
