I'm 40 years old.

I smoke a pack a day of Menthol Analogs.

I enjoy smoking and I think the hand mouth addiction is as strong as the nicotine addiction.

I want my E-cig to be easy to use, and maintain and easy to order supplies for.

I've looked through the forums and there are lots of opinions!!!!

Can someone just tell me what to buy and where to buy it?

I would think that many of us would agree that the Joye 510 is the easiest to start with. Its parts are also compatible with many others. When I started, the hardest part was knowing what I needed and running out of stuff not having backups. Whatever you get, READ READ READ about cleaning/maintaining it. Also read up on juices (PV and VG pros and cons were something that made a WORLD of difference for me!). You HAVE to have a good juice to kick the smoking habit and switch to vaping. Fortunately, it seems to be easier for menthol smokers.

This would be my recommendation for a starter:
at *least* 2 batteries and a charger
If you get small batteries (if you want it to look similar to an analog): a personal charging case
4 atomizers (they are going to get clogged and you are probably going to pop at least one trying to clean it)
I would start out with regular poly-filled cartridges (you can look into alternative fills, carts, tanks and dripping later)
A decent sample pack of liquids (because taste is subjective, I can't really help you here, but I would recommend getting them from a juice vendor - my experience with hardware suppliers' juice is not positive)

This is exactly the kit I started out with: Joye 510 Starter Kit (JOYE510START)

I didn't do a whole lot of reading first, but I was happy with it. Wish I'd bought some extra atties, though. Also, that site is pretty good, they have fast shipping and great customer service. Their juices aren't bad either to start out with.

The important thing is to read, educate yourself and take your time. If you need to pick up an analog in between because the whole new to vaping this is frustrating - do it and don't beat yourself up over it... Otherwise, you'll just end up giving up and going back to them entirely.

Unfortunately, there is no one size fits all solution for everyone. I love my ego-t, a lot of people hate them. I don't like direct dripping and some people swear by it. It's trial and error and it *can* get pricey. The more you read first the better off you will be.

Welcome to the forums J.

I'll throw you my opinion. Ease of use has to be a two piece (battery, Cartomizer) unit. I'd suggest getting a manual battery, takes less drag inhaling than automatic units and overfilling cartos won't kill the battery. I was a pad smoker of marlboro 100's and I need the 24mg of nic to stop the cravings. I ended up getting the manual battery KR808d-1 kit from Litecigusa.net for $35. It comes with 2 batteries, charger, 6 cartos. Cartos are cheap and juice to refill is cheap, or at least cheaper than analogs.

Like KC said, you will get a lot of opinions and only you will be able to find the right one for you.

You did not give enough info for anyone to know what you need.

What cigs - Full Strength? Lights? Ultralights? Do you like hard or soft drags? And how many per day?

What is the longest amount of time you are away from AC or USB power for charging batteries? If you need a long charge battery and are away from power for extended periods then you may need to skip the slim ecigs.

Do you have any special needs. Manual batteries are better. Can you press a button?

I will tell you what I like of the most popular models

Buy manual batteries. Less easily killed by juice leaks, won't turn on accidentally from wind or vibration, better control of your hit, and I think less work. The 510 manuals are even totally sealed on the threaded end.

Small w/ short battery life of 1-3 hours - manual Joye 510 used with Boge cartomizers (Cignot.com)

Long (128mm w/ a carto) w/ 60% more charge - manual Joye 510 mega xl used w/ Boge cartomizers (FreedomSmokeUSA.com has 2 colors of Mega kits)

With both of the above you can also use the atomizer and a drip tip to test juices. Many blank cartomizers available and very very few prefilled. But even prefilled cartomizers need juice added to be cost-efficient

Or the most popular 2-piece model with plenty of prefilled cartomizers available - KR808D-1 also sold by Vapor4Life. Standard length battery has same charge as Joye mega XL (280mah). For testing juices you can use a DSE901 atomizer and drip tip on it

----

Larger battery models with super-long charge life and the ability to use hotter harder hitting LR (low resistance) parts

Joye Ego
Riva 510
and others

And I recommend you watch the Videos for Newbies in the New Members sticky threads. There is also a multipart guide if you follow the sticky thread with Library in its title.

I chose Vapor4Life because my sister gave me some extra batteries from there and some cartomizers to try. I've since ordered my own Starter Kit (Regular size Manuals), one XL Manual battery, cartomizers, juice and I'm just getting started at only a month or so into vaping. They have had 3 or 4 really good sales in my month's experience. The orders have arrived within 2-3 days. Their customer service team is very responsive. I'm only in this a month and I'm very happy with what I chose. I'm still smoking analogs (Camel No. 9 100s) but hope to quit very soon.Good luck, let us know what you do!

ETA: The starter kits from Vapor4Life are for what is referred to as the KR808D1. So easy to use. Screw on a cartomizer and start puffing.

I typically smoke either full flavor, or lights, I'm a hard dragger and smoke a pack a day (20). I almost always have access to USB, 12v or 120AC power.

I think between what I have read (and was pretty sure I liked the idea of cartomizers before I asked this question from what I had previously read) and the answers I got here, I will probably try out a 808D....

Thank you everyone for your additional support and opinions. I'm sure I will become a regular here as I try to kick the nasty habit!!!

Okay, ease of use starting out means cartomizers to me. Unless you like limited choices and spending money, you'll need to learn to refill them. Most people end up buying blanks and fill them with what they want. I'll recommend manual batteries. After that it becomes a little more subjective.

If you get something cigarette sized, expect to be changing batteries as often as every couple hours. The actual changing of the batteries wasn't what bothered me about this. However, trying to suck on a dying battery several times a day REALLY bothered me. Your best choices in this category are the KR808D1 (808) and the 510. You can use cartomizers on either one but, I think the 808 has a little edge here. Vapor4Life sells them and that site has a lot of fans but, MyVaporStore has better prices. The Bloog Max Fusion is the cadillac of the KR808D1s and has a large and vocal following. Availability can be an issue with them. The 510 is available just about everywhere. However, you may or may not get cartomizers with the kit. If you don't, buy some at the same time.

No matter what, if you get a cigarette sized kit, get a PCC.

The other way to go is with the big bats. I'm really partial to these for someone starting out. The battery life is just so much better. There are three I would recommend in this category. The eGo, the Riva, and the e-power with 510 threads. The eGo and Riva are pretty much the same thing different brands. About the size of a Sharpie, Proprietary batteries, 510 threads, very popular. The e-power is a little bigger around but, it uses a generic battery that actually has more charge life than most models of either the eGo or the Riva. Again, no matter which of these you get, you need to buy cartomizers and juice separately.

Yeah Vapor4Life does have really good sales and a lot of them, usually around holidays or big sporting events and sometimes just to celebrate one of their employees. I think SMILIN will get you 10% off any time? Not sure. So no matter what you end up buying, sign up for their mailing list on the first page of Vapor4Life.com lower left. They do sell juices you can use with any ecig. Another good place to sign up - Gourmet Vapor. They don't have sales often but when they do they are good ones. A great sale ended yesterday - was 50% off. FreedomSmokeUSA also has some great sales but I think they are mostly announced in their ECF forum. And I think freedomsmokeusa code will get you 10% off any time except when they are having a different sale.

i got my kit from v4l and i have to say i'm very pleased. i got 10 of their menthol carts and they threw in a bunch of free samples
(because the black carrying case was out and they gave me white)

i got a car charger, ac charger and a cool usb cable where you can use the ecig while plugged into the computer.

note: the cinnamon apple carto is really good

question

do all carts fit my 808? (for ordering from other vendors)

do i have to do any maintenance to these batteries?

myPVshop.com Electronic Cigarettes - Specials

Coupon code - Ivape10

Randall has 510 kits for 20 bucks.. eGo kits for only 30.. Can't go wrong

EDIT: Sorry I didn't realize you got an 808 kit. ;/ While you will certainly be able to find parts for that, it is even easier still to find 510 and eGo(just a larger battery 510) parts. And Randall has a super great deal on them lol. Sorry I got to you too late :(

My mom has a V4L and I get her cartos from V4L, Ikenvape or LiteCigUSA. Any KR808 cartomizer will fit.

Do you have automatic batteries? Make sure you wipe them off and free of juice. Make sure to fill the cartomizer when it's not connected to the battery if you're filling your own. I give them a wipe with alcohol before I charge them.

I "think" they sell carts and attys for a KR808. Although I only use cartomizers, a atty is a good way to test flavors without committing yourself to a whole cartomizer of juice. I think they sell them at nhaler although I'm not 100% sure of that.

Filling cartomizers on your own is a very easy thing to do. Trust me, you'll be a pro at it in no time. Then you can go broke like the rest of us trying out all the juices.

Skip the 510 and just get an EGO or Riva. Starter kits from $35-$40 and up. The 510 is a good way to introduce yourself to vaping but you will quickly realize you want more battery life. I'm sure most everyone will agree with that.... Also, I have recently started using the LR (low resistance-2.0 ohm) cartomizers and highly recommend them... Happy Vaping!!!

I'm going to make your decision easier and add myself to the number of happy vapers from Vapor4Life. Right now you can combine the codes: smilin = 10% off and freeshippingus = free shipping (saves about $7) I have 2 of their autos, 1 shorty and 1 XL. The XL autos have some issues with the threads having some extra metal that sometimes has to be "sanded" down with sand paper or steel wool. I have 2 more batts coming on Wednesday and hoping that those don't have any issues. My opinion, if you are going for simple, close to the real thing, stick with the 2 piece. Don't worry about dripping, but if it something you think you may get into, go for the manual. This way you can start dripping without having to buy a new battery. I personally am buying all autos because I don't have the time to drip. I need my cartos ready to go and I don't much like the idea of having extra "stuff" with me all the time.
