Without the brass sleeve there is unhindered airflow to use the G-tank recessed:
Also, you can almost see here that the body is at a slight angle so when standing upright and leaning from the weight of the battery, the top plate is almost level.

Asdaq, brass serves as a magnetic barrier? I didn't think it would based on all the model engine ignitions I have built using hall effect sensors
It probably isn't ideal. However, the distance between the two is relatively great and the brass plated spring doesn't have much mass so the attraction is weak in the first place. I don't expect it would take much of any material to break the field.
