break in????

Ok ive got an orchid v2 28 gage kanthal 9 wraps 5/64th coming out to .8 ohms with both coils firing. My question is I did several builds from .6-.9 and they all tasted funky. Well I put a .8 in and decided to quit screwing with it and half a tank later the flavor got good. Is this somewhat normal? Any ideas on what would be the cause? Using japanese cotton for wick

half a tank for clean flavor sounds wrong. things that might help: washing your hands before adding the wick; dry burning the coil to remove the oils from the wire before adding your wick; experiment with amount of cotton you are using, it might be too much/not enough; make sure your wicks are saturated before using the new coil; and last but not least, I'm assuming the tank has been cleaned thoroughly(?).. sometimes it's difficult to get rid of machine oils;

if you could manage to post a picture of the build and wick it will greatly help in getting things sorted much quicker. the more info you can provide on the steps being done prior to the first draw should also help figure this out.

Just got an V2 myself. Like was asked above, did you give it a very thorough cleaning? Machine oil is a nasty thing and can be hard to get rid of.

Hmmm ok I cant post pictures yet, still at work but I put the coils on, compress them , thrn heat them 2-3 times before wicking them, the wicks I probably have too tight as I have to fight to pull them through, but I trim them, put some juice on , form them, fire the coils again to make sure they are both still firing, put another drop on each wick and assemble. My coils aint pretty yet lol so be prepared to laugh when I get pictures up

1: What's your power source.
2: Did you soak overnight to clean out machine oil.
3: What kind of wicking: just wick through coils, or do you also have filler/padding around the coil.
If the wicking just resting on the deck or are you running wicking through the channels.

Power source is an ipv2. Soak what overnight???
Just wick through coils, edge of wick into channels 1-2 threads

soak the atomizer; especially the base/deck area where the airholes and fill holes are ; you take the screws out also to get rid of any machine oil down in the threading

Heres the pictures of the build I just did 9 wraps 28 gage .7ohm its got a strange flavor again not sure what it is. Might rewick and try a different flavor see if that has something to do with it... difference in flavor production between the nautilus ive been using and this maybe.... but I wouldnt think so. Gf says that the vape smells the same. I did soak it in alcohol for about 15 minutes, shook it up in a container of alcohol and repeated.

If you're not used to cotton wick, maybe you're just tasting the fresh cotton.

My observations:
1: the number of wraps seems rather high; the coil looks unusually long.
2: the cotton seems to be chopped off too short
