Oh boy. Got about half way through and I'm exhausted. Facts make your head hurt. Maybe it's best to let your favorite politician read it for you and give you a short decisive summary.

When you do dive in it becomes quite clear that the epidemic isn't black and white, and we've been lied to a lot. The number of kids who start vaping without having smoked is large, but not many of them go on to become frequent vapers, dependence among them is uncommon, and few go on to become smokers. Most frequent vapers smoked before they vaped.

That's me producing my own short summary. To actually understand what's going on would require reading the whole thing, probably multiple times, and digesting it. Not many people are going to be willing and able to do that.

I might finish it later after a few more coffees.

Thought you guys would be interested in this - top UK public health scientists analyze the US data and come to completely different conclusions.

Why am I Not Surprised to see this ?

I'm sure the press will publish it far and wide, not.

If they Didn't, it would be a Clear Indication that their is an Inherent Bias in Most Media Outlets. Which Boarders on Outright Deception.

And we All Know that the Average Media Outlets only goal is the presentation of Fair and Balanced news accounts to Better Inform the General Public as to the Truth.

You pretty much got it. This isn't the first time interpretation of that survey has been sliced and diced in different ways. But yes, not a whole lot go on to using cigarettes or even vapes among those who have experimented with it. Much the same as not everyone who tried a cigarette in "our" time went on to become 1 pack a day smokers.

The real epidemic is in the ability of a single incident to spread across the web and media services to make it appear to be a major problem. Just like one exploding battery, extra points if caught on video, can make millions afraid. The concept of relative risks is long gone in public discourse. Everything is breaking news and trending tags.

It's not just the concept of relative risk that's gone. Common sense is a thing of the past. People's skin is now so thin a mere breeze can rip it apart. I mean when you see headlines like this: "Family outraged after a Universal character made 'OK' symbol on 6-year-old's shoulder" how could you think differently? I mean really? "Outraged" over an OK hand gesture?!?! I have a completely different hand gesture for that family, the media, and stupid people in general. People need to stop playing "victim" over everything they see and hear and learn to understand what is really going on.

What gets me about the OK gesture hoopla is that the whole nonsense was begun as a 4chan trolling project. They thought it would be hilarious if they could get the media to report the OK sign's association with white power as fact, the media obliged, and then some biddable white power types actually adopted the gesture. In other words, a bunch of malicious nihilists reshaped a small corner of the world as a mean-spirited joke.

    I hate 4chan.

You know there is a lot to hate about 4chan, but there is a lot to love, also. I mean, if I were the right age and demographic, I too might be sowing the seeds of dissent. I mean, now I'm just tired and reformed and trying to like, help people nicely.

But in my youth with all that rage? IDK 4chan might have been just my style.

I mean, they took down SCIENTOLOGY. For reals. At least in "civilized" societies.

It would be nice if they dismantled the government, and they're sort of like vigilantes, or well, fighting the only way they can, in small independent cells, of highly explosive and trained but sort of unpredictable guerilla fashion form.

I am more pro than con. Even though they made my kid cry over my little pony. LOL.

I was sort of glad he discovered "4chan" during his "brony" phase, not his porn and other adolescent rebellion phase. He came to me and whispered, "Mom they make GIFs of people blowing up bronies! It's a BAD place, don't ever go there." I giggled internally and let him know I would never venture there, and nor should he.

Cuz, l don't want him jailed or dead. There are 4chan members jailed for a LONG time for Scientology and we should all muse on that for a while.

what is particularly hilarious is the word OK (Okae as it was originally) is derived from a very non-white source. A Native American Language.

My best friend is a guy thirty years my junior who frequently regales me with stories of the kind of vacantly cruel garbage he and his peers engage in in their desperate efforts to be funny. This is on a couple of other boards maybe two rungs down the nihilism ladder from 4chan. I may understand what's driving them, but I think their vacant, snickering cruelty is the symptom of a sad, potentially deadly sickness more than a force for useful change. They are, by and large, a neurotic, self-absorbed, creepy lot, and I both pity and despise them.

Take a look at this UK. government website it kind of backs up what you are (you know its a UK. government website because it is a .gov.uk site) saying Clearing up some myths around e-cigarettes - Public health matters

Also there are some great links (all backed by the British government) in this article worth taking a look at.
