I have been told I have bronchiolitis. I've been coughing for about ten days, have seen two different doctors, had a chest x-ray (no problem there), have been taking antibiotics which don't seem to be working. It's really frustrating because I didn't cough at all for eight months after I switched to vaping. I thought the pg would help a lung infection like this, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

Hmmm...teh inter-webs tell me that bronchiolitis is a viral infection of the bronchioles - the smallest air passages - and that antibiotics would be ineffective. If antibiotics are no good then PG may have an effect but I guess only a doctor would be able to confirm or deny that. Either way, further treatment will probably be needed.

Sorry to hear about this - hope you knock it out and get well soon.

Bronchiolitis is related to inflammation of the upper airway.................rather than an infection in the lungs aka pneumonia. In kids, we call bronchiolitis "croup". The cough is usually dry & sounds like a dog barking. The cough is also usually non productive.

Besides taking your antibiotics just as directed, please surround yourself with cool moist air. For many years in Cleveland, Ohio I would sit in December inside my house, windows open, snowing outside, fan in my window, just so that my son's cough would clear up.

How many days have you taken your antibiotics? Please be sure you are taking them at the proper times everyday, as antibiotics build up a "level" in your blood stream. DO NOT stop taking your antibiotics if you start feeling better.........(this makes things worse & that's a whole different thread)

PG is not going to "help" bronchiolitis, but it's probably not going to hurt it either. Again, the infection is in your upper airway & not your lungs.

In the USA, bronchiolitis is treated with nebulized racemic epinephrine and intramuscular or IV steroids to decrease airway inflammation. RARELY have I seen this treated with antibiotics...........unless there is in fact something else going on.

Increase your fluid intake, take deep breaths often, and take your antibiotics as directed :) I hope you start feeling better soon :)

sounds like more of a sinus infection to me, and yes, antibiotics are indicated in this condition if in fact your phlem was thick/yellow. This means that the mucous has sat long enough to grow bacteria.........making it that nasty yellow color.

If you were in fact "very low" in RBC.........you would need more than iron & vit b.........you would need a blood transfusion.

PG is NOT an antibiotic folks...........it simply has antimicrobial properties, which means it won't allow 'some' bacteria to grow wherever the PG is. Now what specific bacteria is sensitive to PG, I don't know. I certainly would like to know though. :)

My red blood count is 107. It should be 131-172. Is this very low? I think it probably explains why I feel tired all the time. By the way, I'm still sick. I'm getting desparate to find a cure for this cough. Here in China they think antibiotics can cure anything, but it just hasn't worked. I read a lot about very high dose vitamin c IV treatment, so all I need is to find a doctor who will agree to do it.
