I'm in a bit of a pickle, I guess you could say. My brother is a heavy analog smoker and has talked about wanting to quit but lacking the willpower to do it on his own (cold-turkey is not an option). I suggested to our mom that she look into buying him Apollo Disposable Ecig - 500 puffs but she is one of those people who is strictly against smoking and being as undereducated as she is, she is not aware of how much benefit it can be for him. In fact, she even showed me a Wiki (which can easily be edited or manipulated by the general public) which, to her satisfaction, appears to validate her concerns about electronic cigarettes by stating that whether they are healthy or not is declared "inconclusive" by the FDA.

I have tried to find some websites that actually promote electronic cigarettes and reinforce how much more healthy they are in comparison with analogs, but I haven't had much luck. There haven't been very conclusive medical studies done on them either, which doesn't help my argument.

By the way, I know the simple solution is that I could just buy them for him myself, but I have already bought him his birthday gift (which was nonrefundable). That is why I am so keen on my mom buying them for him because if she doesn't, no one else will, and I think that it would be a GREAT thing for him.

Any suggestions on websites I can direct her to or facts to back up my argument? She is relying on Wiki for all of her information, which of course concerns me, because it can easily be tweaked.:?:

Edit: I know that, bottom line, if she doesn't want to buy them for him, she isn't going to, nor does she have to- but I would like to at least have her know what they are and what they do before making a decision (without relying on Wiki).

Here are some links to give you some ammo:

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of e-cigarettes for smoking cessation using
a survey of smokers who had tried e-cigarettes:

Dr. Siegel's (who did the above report) blog: The Rest of the Story: Tobacco News Analysis and Commentary
(do read his about me to the right on that page. Lots of great info. on quitting smoking/e-cigarettes)
