Bug out bag

That mouse thing in the can was nasty!! Thanks Mutt for a picture I won't be able to get out of my head...

Whynot, you're correct, I could probably wash & then boil water in the canteen to clean it. I wanted metal for that reason anyway - I may buy one just to try and see how it goes. Plus, I know this is probably weird, but I like the metallic taste of a metal canteen. It reminds me of hiking at Mt Rainier back in the days when you could fill your canteen from the waterfalls & rivers. Now they're all polluted.

Sorry Techno...I came across that video when I was looking at the metal canteens for the BOB, and it just stck with me. It was the main reason I decided to go with the clear plastic style.

Haha, you know what made that whole video Xtra disturbing...Is that after all that close up of the yuck he poured out of it, he shows a "clean" picture of it saying it's "ready to use"...Now, I like cleaning up & fixing old stuff for reuse, but I don't think I could ever drink out of that canteen - no matter how many bleach rinses it had been thru. Bleccck!

I ended up getting that knife the other day. I'm happy with it, and because it was cheap, I won't really be afraid to abuse it. My only real complaints are that it's stainless, and it is just a hair back-heavy. The balance point is just behind your index finger . . . I would have liked a little more weight on the blade side. I'm also resurrecting an old antler-handled knife of my grandpa's just for the fun and practicing my sharpening/honing skills.

I finally got around to painting and paracord wrapping the cleaning kit. You could also use the kit as a place to wrap your duct tape as well. Right now, there is about 45 feet of paracord wrapped on the kit.

Thanks for this thread! I think you pretty much wrote the March ZPOTM segment... which is good, I was kinda hurting for interesting stuff to do with the 72 Hour prep bit...

Sweet!...Hopefully you get that other package before you start to shoot episode #3. My goal is to get mentioned in every episode, and so far I am 2 for 2, LOL

No kidding! You're practically a guest host.

Someday we're gonna have to have you film a weapon review or survival segment or whatever, I'll work it in, and then we can all enjoy your beautiful mug.

That offer is open to everyone, too!

I just used a length of weed-whacker line to quick-clean the rifles I took out shooting today. Melt one end and push down until it's flat and sharpen the other end. Poke it through a patch and feed the weed-whacker line down the barrel with the patch in tow. Ultra compact and light, but just for quick clean-up after shooting.

I decided to go the metal canteen route, but I ordered a new one. Not official GI issue, but no mouse in it either.

Which one did you decide on? I've been looking at them and I can't decide. I used to have one of those round ones with the blanket design on the outside, but now they're all Plastic!! I really want one that I can boil water in, should the occasion arise...

Sweet Freaky... Looks like it would be easy enough to carry in a BOB.

I finally got some more supplies for my bag. I had some extra blades I was going to sell to get one of those Hennessey Hammocks. I took them to my friends store to sell and he just traded me a new Hammock and snakeskins for the blades. Works for me!

I also got the new shoulder rig in. It fits and I can wear it while wearing the back pack, but the holsters dont fit the guns/magazines well. This is the second shoulder rig that hasnt been right so I decided to scrap that idea and find another way to carry them.

I also just picked up another SKS. Paid a little more than I wanted too for it ($225), but went for it anyways. Still not going to carry one if I have to bug out, but its nice to have at the house to defend with.

I am waiting on a couple deliveries and then I will do a Disaster Bag, BOB and SHTF bag picture review.
