Hi all, I'm new to DIY having finally accumulated all the required items to get started. I made a 3ml size of butterscotch using Lorann's a few days ago. I used 10% flavoring and it came out rather weak, but it was ok otherwise. I decided to make a larger batch of 10ml and use 20% flavoring.

It vaped ok for the first ml or so, then it started tasting burned, like overly roasted marshmallows. But I had gone through the entire 3ml bottle of 10% stuff without a problem, so I'm pretty sure it's the flavoring that's causing it. Even though I doubled the amount of flavoring there wasn't any noticeable increase in flavor either. I blew out my atty after I got tired of the burned flavor and it went away.

So here's my questions. Is my assessment correct that it is the flavoring causing the problem? Is it normal to use that much (20%) or did I just overdo the flavoring? Is this typical of the Lorann's flavors?

With the remaining 8 or 9 ml of the 20% stuff I'm just going to add unflavored nic juice at the 24mg I made the 20% batch to in order to bring it back down to 10% flavoring. I've had premade butterscotch flavors in the past that were very strong and tasty so I know it's possible to do. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

If you are using the same atty and after blowing it out the odds are that it was the juice and more flavor. You don't say what kind of atty you are using. Lower ohm attys are more prone to this problem. You also haven't mentioned the PG VG mix. VG is thicker and higher PG mixtures may also play a part because they are thicker and don't wick as well. Though it's more of a problem with cartos..

How long did you let the flavors seep after mixing? Some flavors just don't come out right away.

Here's the ratios:

2.4ml of 100mg nic juice
4.0ml of PG
1.6ml of VG
2.0ml of Lorann's Butterscotch Flavoring

I didn't let it steep although I know it's general practice to do so. Mostly these were tests to see how it would taste. Once I get something I like I plan on mixing a few 30ml bottles at a time. I know I like butterscotch flavor so I'm trying to get it to work before mixing up a month's supply.
As far as the equipment, I'm using a Maxi Roughstack @ 3.7v, 2.0ohm LR atty, and a drip tip.
I guess the thing to do now would be to add about 8ml of unflavored nic juice @ 24mg to the 8 or 9ml I have left, let it steep for a week or two, then try it again. That'll bring the flavoring level down to around 10% and hopefully steeping will let the flavors come out.
Thanks for all your responses.
