Those look NICE!!! Great find salt....they do bulk orders I see. I'm willing to do a co-op on these....anyone else interested? I'm not sure how co-op buying works....I don't understand how it saves money if you have to redistrbute and re-ship the order. So someone please explain it to me...I'm really bad at math.

lori, with the trueman co-op i sent an email asking what kind of discount i could get ordering in bulk. the cartos at the site were priced at 6.50/5 and i was told in bulk he could sell for 4.50/5. anticipating free shipping as advertised for orders over 200.00 i collected orders on pif and sent the requested amount of cartos to trueman for an invoice.
i almost died when it came back since shipping and pp foreign transaction fees were close to 120.00. on second look i realized our price for cartos was further reduced and the invoice was just 3.00 over my calculations.
so, if our order clears customs we are getting the cartos for 4.50/5 delivered to va.
i went with flat rate shipping at 4.95 to avoid worrying about zone charges and weight, plus the boxes are free.
our order has left china and hopefully will get here without problems

I don't see any 4081 on the site. Which ones are you guys interested in trying? Help! I'm not good with thread identification and compatibility. But if they look good to you, I'll be happy to order 30 and send some samples out so we can all try them first. Again, this offer applies to ...err... the bona fide participants on this thread. I can't afford to send samples to everybody who asks. Sorry. I wish I could...:)

I just checked their shipping prices. $17.80 for the first 0.5 kg, and then: Upon delivery, you will be responsible for paying for all applicable duties and/or taxes for your order.

Whatever that means.... Is it worth it?

since i started with a m401 i might be interested in those. even though i'm sort of leaning toward the kanger 808 batt after catching up on scottbee's thread and it's always best to avoid an adapter if possible

btw katya, no miracle for max yet, just trying to make the best of it until my son comes home next weekend

I looked at their site.

1. I don't see any offers for free shipping, did I miss them?
2. How much are those duty and tax fees, does anyone know?
3. Are these cartomizers, the 2nd edition, available locally anywhere so we could at least try some before we bulk order?
4. If we do a co-op, we should start a separate thread somewhere else, because this is "burning cartomizers" thread and it shouldn't be hijacked. Any idea where?
5. Lorikay, when you said you were intersted in a co-op, did you mean you were interested in participating in one, or did you volunteer to run one? I cannot run a co-op at the moment; not only because I have no experience, but because I have a workload I need to deal with rather urgently. But I will be willing to participate if everybody agrees that these cartos are worth a try and can't be bought in smaller quantities locally.

Take it away, guys!:)

there might be no free shipping, i was referring to trueman

2. How much are those duty and tax fees, does anyone know?
there was no duty on my first small order from china, no mention was made of duty on jules' xlarge order, once my trueman co-op order gets here i should know more

3. Are these cartomizers, the 2nd edition, available locally anywhere so we could at least try some before we bulk order?
definitely worth checking into

pif might give permission

we could also check the weight on these cartos and see how many packs would make up the first 499g to stay with the $17.80 shipping
trueman gave the weight on their web site, not sure about these guys
but maybe a few emails might give us some answers

Quick report on the SLB 510 carto from IkenVape sent to me kindly by WitchWay.

I"ve been very happy with the SLB 510 carto. Possibly, I like it even better than the 4081s, so far, because of the smoother and richer draw. It lasted longer than any of my 4081s, and never developed that harsh taste that I seem to get with the 4081s. Now I have to state, to be fair, that I got a blank SLB 510, while all of my 4081s were prefilled, so that may account for the difference in taste. I'll be getting some blank 4081 finally, hopefully soon, so I'll report on the difference in taste, if any.

The carto started to get funky and sluggish by the end of day two, I vaped it a bit longer but I didn't like the funky taste at all. Not burnt, just bad. I took it apart and it looked exactly like WitchWay's autopsy pics; no damage to the filler at all, but black nasty residue on the coil.

I have to agree with EDO, who wrote earllier in this thread that he thinks that the funk factor comes from the burnt juice residue accumulating on the atomizer coil. I happened upon some pictures of that gunked up coil in the Royal Smoker's User Manual, and I feel compelled to share them with you. If you scroll down to pages 6 and 7 you'll see some alarming photographs.

http://www.royalsmokers.com/RS-Manual.pdf

So, unless somebody comes up with a good method of coil cleaning inside the 4081 and the SLB 510 cartomizers, I won't be using them for any extended period of time. Four, maybe five refills, just like I'm doing now with my "cool" premium kr8s, and goodbye. They are disposable for a reason, folks.

It might also depend on the juice being vaped. None of my cartos (SS for sure, and maybe others, won't know untill I autopsy them) show that gunk on the coils, and I've been vaping them for a couple weeks. I mostly vape tobacco flavors, and mostly "tobacco" that I believe is Dekang, but my point is almost all my juices (that I use in cartos) are very light in color.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't be so sure. The photograph on page 7 was taken under serious magnification, mind you. Of course, if you look at this tiny coil with a naked eye it will not look the same. But have you carefully examined your coils under magnification similar to the one used to take the picture in the manual? I doubt it. They also use Dekang juices in their prefilled cartos.

the way i found out about that goo, i stuck my tweezers down into the coil. i don't believe you can see it just by looking into the cartridge.
but since some of the batteries run a pre-set burnoff cycle the build-up could be reduced.

Another factor for the funkiness in cartomizers is the burnt liquid that has no where to go. Take a a carto apart that has been refilled a bunch of time and you will see that liquid is ten shades darker than a fresh carto. That and the gunk around the wicking material and the coil will make it very hard for anyone to design a carto that can be filled more than a few times with out it getting funky. A lot of people can;t tast this funkiness when they just start vaping but once you vape for a while you will start to notice it more and more unfortunately.

The discussions on this board in the last few weeks intrigued me enough to take out my old cartos and purchase new ones and play around with them. To be honest for me they all have problems of burning and they are a pain in the ... because you have to top off regularly for them not to burn out right. I use a modified cartridge with my m201 and that is far less of a hassle than any of the cartos available today. I really think the ultimate answer won't be cartos....rather it will be a a newly designed cartridge that can be vaped dry from start to finish.

EDO, pictures or it didn't happen.

Seriously, could you share your modified PV and some simple explanation of what you did and how you did it?

I agree with you about the hassle, but I've had some success with the newer generation cartomizers. I just discard them early. Or, If I happen to have a really good one, like some of those pre-racing stripe Turbos, I rinse it and dry it and it's almost like new. One rinse is all I'm willing to chance. I always check what it looks like inside and stop using it at the slightest sign of off taste. I had no luck cleanig the 4081s, I tried to rinse one out and it stopped working. But maybe I didn't dry it properly. Those are different from kr8s. Anybody washed a 4081 successfully?

I have taken apart every spent cartomizer since mid-March, when this thread came back to life with renewed vigor.;) They are truly much improved, in my experience.

Going back to an earlier post by Yank I am have been wondering about the juice used in the cartos. Maybe the difference in burning temps for the pg and vg and the viscosity of the vg make a difference.
When I first started vaping some atomizers burnt out more quickly - sometimes a lot more quickly -with the vg.
I only ever had trouble with the funky taste in 808 cartos I bought the end of last year. I've never had that funky taste in 4081s or the 510s I'm using now. I use Dekang almost all the time too.

I agree - I have decided to stop looking for good cartos - I have bought from more than 14 suppliers and they all burn (on 3.7V) mostly after refill
So, I have decided to treat the cartomizers as DISPOSABLE - use once and than goes to bin - that's it. If you use 2 cartos a day it will still be $3 a day compared to $20 I used to spend on smoking.

And anyway, I don't see why a manufacturer will try to improve cartos so we can refill them again and again - so, we spend $3 a month instead of a day .... makes no sense ...they'll lose millions ...

Mick37...I 100% agree... the whole point of these things is convenience. The only way they are convenient is if you use them as disposable items. I would need like 3-4 of them a day so it would be expensive. Janty is making one that seems very large and might hold a lot of liqiuid. Hope it is a good one. SO far the ones that I have tried that hold a good amount liquid seem to burn the fastest.

Katya....we are getting off topic but if you go to the moders forum on the ECF they have a section for cartridge mods. The one I like best is the ADM mod http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/cartridge-mods/46294-must-try-adm-auto-drip-mod.html . I use a m201 mostly. It is a penstyle and the spring moves around more than it would on a 510.... so I use a straw to hold the spring in place. In my mod the spring and the straw form a T in the cartridge. Watch the video and if you have any questions let me know.

Just a quick checkin :)
Vapors Etc. - Home
These folks have the moderate resistant Boge type 510 cartos some people, myself included, like. Dirt cheap....6.95 a box. 5 colors, 2.9ohm resistance. Also stock Kanger batteries AND they claim to make their own juice, PG OR VG and that they use USA sourced nicotine. ecf coupon code gets 10% off and vaporship gets free shipping for 2 more days.

Royal Smokers cartos have been ordered by a friendly supplier for samples. I will report when I have tried them. I tried placing a small order with them and the shipping was $35!!! So I for one will wait for the suppliers samples.

Also....store by the name of Clouds of Vapor....now taking orders for a juicebox type mod made specifically for the 510 CARTOMIZER. Holds a 3ml bottle of juice which is fed through a tube with a needle connected to it directly into the carto. Called the WetBox and it's $60...14500 3.7V protected battery...definately last all day....not sure if you can use any carto you want or if it needs a modified carto....you would have to wrote and ask the guy.

PS/edit I did place an order with Vapor Etc....very fast response time...seems like a really nice guy....I ordered one pack of the 510 cartos and 2 flavors of VG juice....he is already looking into getting XL extended cutoff time batteries for me...next I'll try for the Royal Smoker cartos. :) cross your fingers....

Have fun!

I need help...

The V4L Premium cartos perform GREAT! -BUT- burn in less than a day... Cool cartos dont produce enough vapor... BOGE 510s dont have enough throat hit... SLB 510s didn't last me half an hour...

Am I too picky?
Should I try the SS 4081 cartos? Should I try the RoyalSmokers (I guess thats still a shot in the dark...)

-OR- Should I just give up on finding my perfect carto? as Mick and EDO have suggested. Should I just buy prefilled Cartos and toss em when they run dry? Start looking into drip tips?

I am at a Serious Crossroads here... I could use a nudge in the right direction.

Thanks
Salt
