I had that impression at first too, but ripped a few open immediately when I did get that taste and discovered that the wick part (Which is a different, thicker 'rope like' material than the filler in my carts) was blackened and a hole burnt through it. It's obviously polyester by the way that it burns/melts.
IMHO better to get it moist again before you get to that point by dropping 2-3 drops into the cart on a regular basis. Since making that change the only time I've gotten that taste is when I've been vaping too much and it overheats (and melts/burns it).
I also noticed when ripping those initial ones apart that the cart filler was not necessarily devoid of juice, but that it wasn't wicked away from the filler to the wick as fast as I was vaping.
So upon ripping a cart apart when you first notice an off taste they've been burnt already? I only ripped one apart which was my first cart ever after burning it pretty badly and the cart itself just smelled like burning but I did it just to experiment.
Now my only issue is figureing out exactly when I should put the cart away to be refilled without burning them. My grape cart started produceing a bit of a dry taste today and I immiedately stopped using it even though it was still produceing tremendous vapor the flavor was off. I hope they dont burn instantly when they run dry hmmm... I might rip that one apart to see later.
My rule of thumb now is to change carts when I change batteries, but skip ahead if I notice it's getting overly hot (definitely noticeable). This has been working well for me with 3 carts I'm rotating right now for about the past 5 days.
I think I need some more potent cartridges though, because I'm not getting my fix. Didn't want to OD so I started with 11mg. I chain vape and still crave a cig, so I'm upping it to 16 and 18 on my most recent orders, may go to 24.
My smoking averaged 20 cigarettes/day of Marlboro lights, 30 when I went out -- Any comparisons available as to what's working for you? Since going to the e-cig I've averaged 4 analogs a day, but want to drop that completely. I'm about 3 weeks in.
That thread you linked has me a little nervous now and the fact that this can even happen could potentially be fuel for the FDA but anyways....
Upon just pulling my grape cart apart in fact I did burn the wick and the wrap around the filler
Slightly. It didnt burn through to the filler but the wrap has a small hole. Strangely the wrap was still quite moist to my suprise and dissapointment!!
I think it may have been my fault though, I had just got out of work and was walking down the sidewalk puffing rather consistantly on it holding the VK in my teeth I probably overheated the poor cartI got into the habbit of smoking super fast and hard with analogs when I get out of work since the subway is only 1 block away and I didnt want to wait to smoke most of the time and wanted to catch the train. So I will take the blame with this cart but with my next cart I will treat her more gently and see what happens.
Slow, soft long drags, will SATISFY, treat the King well, and be rewarded
Usin the VK for almost a month now. Ex 1-2 pack a day Mboro Red smoker. I use 24mg and 36mg on a few flavors. This strength more than satisfies my cravings. I too tried the lower mg carts, and it just didnt do it for me (these are usually the ones I refill the most with higher strength juice and clean out the most).Eventually I will strt to lower the strength. Baby steps, baby steps. My rule of thumb now is to change carts when I change batteries, but skip ahead if I notice it's getting overly hot (definitely noticeable). I will not know anything yet, but, I have been working with manuf. on making the cartomizers better, first ones should be here in a few weeks.
Personally I use em, and toss em. I save tons doing so. I use 4-6 a day, and used to use 4-6 packs kools day.

Upon vapeing my coffee cart very gently for the duration of its life until I thought I tasted the most slight slight slight barely noticeable foul taste I deicided to rip this one apart and see what was going on as well. Turns out even after vapeing so gently and never letting the cartomizer get warm to the touch they do in fact still burn through the wrap at the end of their life. I don't suppose there is anyway to finish a cart without burning the wrap yet unless you kept refilling before they were done to ensure it was always very moist inside. Carts at the end of their life still produce tremendous amounts of vapor so remember everyone when you get the utmost faint foul/strange taste out of your cart, its done, stop vapeing it and either fill or toss it.
