I had that impression at first too, but ripped a few open immediately when I did get that taste and discovered that the wick part (Which is a different, thicker 'rope like' material than the filler in my carts) was blackened and a hole burnt through it. It's obviously polyester by the way that it burns/melts.

IMHO better to get it moist again before you get to that point by dropping 2-3 drops into the cart on a regular basis. Since making that change the only time I've gotten that taste is when I've been vaping too much and it overheats (and melts/burns it).

I also noticed when ripping those initial ones apart that the cart filler was not necessarily devoid of juice, but that it wasn't wicked away from the filler to the wick as fast as I was vaping.

So upon ripping a cart apart when you first notice an off taste they've been burnt already? I only ripped one apart which was my first cart ever after burning it pretty badly and the cart itself just smelled like burning but I did it just to experiment.

Now my only issue is figureing out exactly when I should put the cart away to be refilled without burning them. My grape cart started produceing a bit of a dry taste today and I immiedately stopped using it even though it was still produceing tremendous vapor the flavor was off. I hope they dont burn instantly when they run dry hmmm... I might rip that one apart to see later.

Just a smidgin of the wick at that point it seems. Part of my learning curve was just putting it down and trying it later, at which point the burnt area was more thoroughly through the wick and into the filler. I didn't think about this at all until I saw this post which goes into great detail and has pics:

Can't post link yet - tinyurl DOT com / mzsqqr (or search for "Burning Cartomisers? Dangerous?-E9/VK/bloog/totem/808/DPV9/Smoke51...etc")

That thread you linked has me a little nervous now and the fact that this can even happen could potentially be fuel for the FDA but anyways....

Upon just pulling my grape cart apart in fact I did burn the wick and the wrap around the filler
Slightly. It didnt burn through to the filler but the wrap has a small hole. Strangely the wrap was still quite moist to my suprise and dissapointment!!

I think it may have been my fault though, I had just got out of work and was walking down the sidewalk puffing rather consistantly on it holding the VK in my teeth I probably overheated the poor cart :( I got into the habbit of smoking super fast and hard with analogs when I get out of work since the subway is only 1 block away and I didnt want to wait to smoke most of the time and wanted to catch the train. So I will take the blame with this cart but with my next cart I will treat her more gently and see what happens.

Your sound a little like me. I'm in the computer business and of course all the buildings I work in are non-smoking. So I would duck out for a cig and come back, (quickly) and everyone would comment that I wasn't out long. I would tell them that in my business I learned to become one of the fastest smokers around. Couldn't waste the clients time ya know.

So far those customers haven't had a problem with me using my VK, so far! Once I explained what it was.

We need some tips to know when our carts are going bad before they actually burn. Im assumeing it is absolutely essential to make sure your cart stays cool and you do not vape once it gets warm until it cools. No super chain vapeing keeping pulls at least 10 seconds apart and I have a feeling the carts will be fine. I don't know just a hunch though but I am going to start pulling them apart when I feel they're done so I can figure out for myself when its time for a refill before they burn and hit the garbage can. I've been vapeing the hell out of this coffee cart but making sure it stays cool and I think I've gotten close to twice the life I got out of the grape cart but than again I went nuts on the grape cart after work and believe I killed it.

My rule of thumb now is to change carts when I change batteries, but skip ahead if I notice it's getting overly hot (definitely noticeable). This has been working well for me with 3 carts I'm rotating right now for about the past 5 days.

I think I need some more potent cartridges though, because I'm not getting my fix. Didn't want to OD so I started with 11mg. I chain vape and still crave a cig, so I'm upping it to 16 and 18 on my most recent orders, may go to 24.

My smoking averaged 20 cigarettes/day of Marlboro lights, 30 when I went out -- Any comparisons available as to what's working for you? Since going to the e-cig I've averaged 4 analogs a day, but want to drop that completely. I'm about 3 weeks in.

I will not know anything yet, but, I have been working with manuf. on making the cartomizers better, first ones should be here in a few weeks.

Personally I use em, and toss em. I save tons doing so. I use 4-6 a day, and used to use 4-6 packs kools day.

Vapor4Life never stops working, on improving our ecigs, and accessories/

I know I believe as I stated that it is user error being my fault for burning the 2 carts that I did I am still a newbie. I must remember to keep my carts cool at all times instead of burning em up. It's hard somtimes the amazing flavor kind of grabs you in the moment and I end up pulling hard and fierce. I also find vapor production to be less when outdoors especially on a humid day which may also be causing me to pull to hard and long when outside leaving work and such.

I am super stoked on the fact that you are working to improve the cartomizers as I believe you will always keep your product above the rest! Your customer service is unmatched as a retailer of any product weither it were e-cigs or anything else ! May I suggest possibly if one exists a material for a filler, wrap, and wick of higher heat resistance than currently used to help further avoid chances of burning?

Usin the VK for almost a month now. Ex 1-2 pack a day Mboro Red smoker. I use 24mg and 36mg on a few flavors. This strength more than satisfies my cravings. I too tried the lower mg carts, and it just didnt do it for me (these are usually the ones I refill the most with higher strength juice and clean out the most).Eventually I will strt to lower the strength. Baby steps, baby steps.

Upon vapeing my coffee cart very gently for the duration of its life until I thought I tasted the most slight slight slight barely noticeable foul taste I deicided to rip this one apart and see what was going on as well. Turns out even after vapeing so gently and never letting the cartomizer get warm to the touch they do in fact still burn through the wrap at the end of their life. I don't suppose there is anyway to finish a cart without burning the wrap yet unless you kept refilling before they were done to ensure it was always very moist inside. Carts at the end of their life still produce tremendous amounts of vapor so remember everyone when you get the utmost faint foul/strange taste out of your cart, its done, stop vapeing it and either fill or toss it.

Dibs on beta testing the new carts?

I went from 1-1 1/2 packs a day to zero analogs a day the moment I opened my first e-cig box. I only regret that it was not a VK from the start.

I agree. I think the key is to keep the filler material that is next to the coil moist. If the cart is getting low on liquid, my quess is that it takes longer for the liquid to wick to the inner wrap. So giving it a longer rest might help? I have pulled apart 3 used carts so far. The first one had a burn about 1/2 the size of a pinhole, same with the second. (although I had filled these about 6 times each), but the 3rd one had no burns after about 4 fills.

Inew this this forum but have been reading it for that last severl days trying to find my first e-cig. Im torn between the Vk and the 510. I was leaning towards the VK with what appears to be there exceptional service. I have just read through a thread about these burning carts from a couple months ago that gave me more questions than answers .(under The place for electronic cigarettes reviews, news and chat>The E-Cigarette> Electronic Cigarette Reviews>Burning Cartomisers?)
The question as to what the hair is in these disposable carts has yet been answered and the way around the carts not burning seems to defeat the purpose of using the disposable carts. I was hoping for a hassel free and safe way to vaping which the VK seemed to promise. But now there a question as to the health risk in these carts. If you read through the whole thread youll see the disection of several carts and questions as to what some the material is. Maybe SMILIN can answer what the hair is and if greencig carts are the way to go.

I have torn apart greencig carts, and I have no idea what the "hair" is. It is pretty strange. I have also done experiments with components inside the VK carts. I have very rarely had any of the cart material burn. The Protective wick does get black, but I don't think it's plastic or anything. I think it some kind of cellulose material. I have burned it with a lighter and did not smell any burning plastic smell. And I always remind myself what I was smoking with analogs.

Vex, although I've not used a 510, I HIGHLY recommend the VK. You'll notice that I'm the OP of this thread and the only reason I posted it here is because it's unusual with VK carts to last a short period of time. I've tried SEVERAL other brands and they all seem to be really short lived (especially the ones that come in the blister packs). It seems that throughout this thread the consensus is that dry filler=burned cart, and I think SMILIN addressed the issue when he stated that he now has the factory weighing the carts before they're shipped, to ensure that they're beng filled correctly for some (much needed in the industry) Quality Control. I am VERY satisfied with my VK and I actually tried a cart from my old brand/model (e9 style) that I had left over about a half hour ago and I don't really understand what I liked about the no-hit-weak-smoke-weak-flavor of the old brand.

I hope you do decide on Da King, in case you haven't noticed, it's got quite the following :)
