Burning my throat

Hi all!

Just started vaping. I have a kangertech toptank with a claptone coil. High VG juice and I keep getting this slight burning at the back of my throat. Never happened before... I switched to the claptone from the vertical OCC since people said it had better flavor but this burning isn't gonna fly. Any suggestions for a coil that'll still give awesome flavor but be smoother? Or could it be another reason?

Haven't used the toptank, but suspect your high VG isn't wicking fast enough, unless it starts off harsh on the very first draw. If it starts out harsh, might turn down the watts/volts a bit and give that a try.

+1. Using a high VG juice, it's easy to get into wick trouble. Try turning it down a bit.

If you use nicotine, may consider using a reduced rate. For example I use 18mg nicotine per ml in Evod style tanks. Now, using a bottom feed rba kit and giving serious consideration to drop the nicotine used in it to 6mg per ml. More efficiently built tanks, rbas, atomizers will do a better job of transferring nicotine. You need lower rates of nicotine so as to not become nicotine intoxicated, or even sick from the extra nicotine.

It may also be the extra VG. We each have to experiment and find out what suits ourselves a bit. I prefer a 50/50% ratio of PG/VG. This lets me keep a good balance of flavor to vapor, and works just as well for me in rbas as in evod tanks. This preference though is subjective, based on my opinion & experience only. You can ignore it if you like. What works and is right for me may not be what works and is right for you.

Is the throat hit you get "pepper" tasting? If it is, I would suggest it may be too much nicotine. If it's only hot from heat then it may be the VG. You might also want to check out The ECF Library for more discussion and information on PG/VG and nicotine ratios. Apologies if that seems like a RTFM response. Sometimes a little reading does help. I too often avoid the reading, return and find myself wishing I had read. Welcome as well.

Welcome. I used an aspire atlantis a couple times, anything over 28 watts and the coil gave me a horrendous burn. I too, use high VG juice and, as the others have said, it's likely not wicking fast enough.

I have an X cube II with a couple different RDA's. I have found that pretty much any juice higher than 6 nic burns. I actually prefer a 3 or 4 nic level in a dripper works fine. Temperature or wattage needs to be turned down.

Hi, Newbie, and welcome! Is the Clapton coil a sub ohm coil? If it is, and the OCC was not, it could be that the Nic level is too high. Or, it could just be that you need to adjust your power

What mod are you using with the Clapton coil? I know the Kanger Toptank is you tank. You do realize that the Clapton is Stainless Steel. If your mod has a setting for that it might be better for you.
