I have been wondering, if the atomizer and cartridge were inserted incorrectly, would that person be inhaling plastic smoke into his/her lungs?

Also, may I know when is the time to change the atomizer and cartridge? (life span of both)

Im really new into this and not sure whether if I should swap the atty with the spare within 2 days as well as the cartridge?

I have the joye 510 with 2 atomizers and 5 pre-filled cartridges... though I bought juices and a set of cartridges and hoping for those to arrive on Monday.

replies are very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Basically like anything else, you'll know when to replace your atty. When it stops working. The lifespan of a 510 atty in my experience is anywhere from 1 to 6 months. Look up threads on how to maintain your atty, however I would suggest cleaning it only when it's really begging for it (once every two weeks to a month). Prefilled carts last for like 20 drags unless you constantly top them off. I just drip onto the atty.

You can't really insert an atomizer incorrectly, but you can insert the cart incorrectly. If the plastic is melting, then you're probably inhaling plastic fumes. I've never had that problem tho.

Well if plastic is melting then, yes you will be inhaling the fumes, but I have never heard of that happening when attys, carts are incorrectly inserted. However, a dry atty can sometimes taste like burning plastic and usually just means your cart is empty or the juice is not getting to the atty. This can be remedied by changing, refilling cart or just direct dripping onto the atty. When you get the juice just put 3-4 drops onto the atty bridge and you'll get several good puffs. Those prefilled carts often don't get the juice consistently to the atty causing it to dry out which is why many people just drip or use the cartomizers that have the atty and cart built in.

As for the atty, it should definitely last more than a few days. It's always possible to get bad attys that will fail pretty quickly or not work at all, I suspect yours is just drying out causing it to not work. The key to the whole thing is for the atty to stay wet. If your not getting any vapor try just switching out the cart and when you get that liquid try dripping on the atty.

Try to line up the atty bridge /\ and the juice cup

Try to keep the stuffing damp so the atty doesn't get overly hot

And buy the cheap precut blue foam stuffing for 510 carts at strictlyejuice.com - it wicks well and won't give as much burnt stuffing taste if dry. I love blue foam. Stick the tapered end into the cart. You can fill the cart 1/2 way with juice, stick the blue foam in, push it into the juice to get it wet, reposition at the top edge of the juice cup, then top off with 2-3 drops - whatever it needs. After that you can just top off for a while whenever the vapor seems a bit drier or light. When topping off doesn't help, you do another full fill. An smooth small unbent leg of a paper clip is good for pushing and positioning the stuffing.

I love blue foam - holds its shape, even consistency, easy to rinse or and pat dry.

And I recommend you also try cartomizers. Get a pack of standard resistance (not LR) Boge 510 soft-cap cartos at LiteCigUSA.net or elsewhere. The mouth-end cap pops out - stick a paper clip end in the mouth hole just far enough to pop it out. I hold some tissue on the threaded end, hold at an angle, and try to add about 1ml into the stuffing (20-28 drops with most bottles). Clean up the threaded end well! Puff into the threaded end with the open end down into a tissue to clear the air channel. Clean up and jucie pooled above the stuffing. After the first fill let it sit for a while so the juice will soak into all of the stuffing - I lay mine on its side, and change which side a few times.

You can vape a LOT longer on a carto before it needs juice. If the juice gets light or a bit dry, try tipping the ecig carto down for 5 secs and if that does not revive the vapor, add some juice (5-10 drops or whatever it needs). take the carto off the battery when you add juice and again clean the threads, puff to clear the air channel etc. If you keep it damp it should be vapable right after adding more juice. And if you keep it damp a carto should last for 4-7 days and I have even gottena couple of weeks out of those Boges.

NOTE - If you have auto batteries you need to be extremely careful not to get juice drips out of a carto. Juice drips can kill your drag sensor and your battery. Manual 510s are sealed on the threaded end so you just have to keep them clean (both sides of the connection, especially before screwing your battery into a charger or PCC (a film of dried juice can decrease performance or even prevent electrical connection.

If you don't insert the cart properly (look inside the atty and you see sort of an oval shape, now look at the part of the cart that goes in there it's the same shape, line them up) you can melt the edge of the cart and inhale plastic. From what I've read, this amount of inhaled plastic, if temporary and you correct the problem, is not even close to the dangers inherent in smoking cigarettes.

If you cut up a plastic cart and put it into a pipe and smoked it then it would probably be worse than smoking a cigarette -- (but it would be close).

Also, one way to make sure that you don't ever inhale or burn the plastic cart is to cut off about 1/8" from the bottom of the cart making it too short to contact the hot atomizer bridge area.

I forgot to mention atomizers - keep spares. When an atomizer's performance goes down or it tastes bad, try cleaning it then drying it, reprime, wait a few mites for it to soak in so the coil is damp and try again. I usually use one while cleaning/drying the other. if you can't revive the performance, you could keep it as an emergency spare. If one dies, it will be dead and you will know that.
