Burning through cartos

Help! I am a heavy heavy vaper right off. I almost constantly vape. I am burning through cartos. I only get a couple of days on one carto before it gets a hard draw, or I lose some of the filter etc. I have tried generics, I have tried V4L cool carts and premiums. I use a usb pass through as well as a standard 808 battery. Any help would be appreciated! using- KR808D Scarywitchy

Right now i exclusively vape 808 cartos too, on my batts and PT. the PT definitely sucks more juice from your cartos, as its running at 5v instead of 3.7.
For my first couple of weeks vaping with the KR808D-1, i found myself burning (and tossing) too many cartos. I've now got a "system" to avoid this. It's nothing revolutionary, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this, but I figured I'd share.

First, you need a PCC. Well, you don't need it, but if you're on the go at all, you should have one. Next, you need two batteries. Lastly, 3 cartos. This idea is based around the fact that an 808 carto lasts longer than an 808 battery (i use the the "regular", not the short or XL)...so if you change you're carto whenever you change batts, u'll pretty much never burn a carto.
So, you have one filled carto screwed onto the fully charged battery that you're going to be using, and the other two filled cartos and spare batt in the PCC. When the batt you're using dies, put a new carto on the fresh batt and plug the dead batt into the PCC. By the time you kill that battery, the other should be charged and you can use that with the 3rd carto. Then just top off the 3 cartos at the end of the day, charge you're batteries, and you're ready for the next day. I do a lot of chain vaping, and 3 batts/cartos last me all day.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

How many cartos are you rotating? I usually rotate 15 to 20 cartos (currently rotating about 35 cartos) and refill one every hour (yes, I go through 1/2mL of liquid every hour, and I don't vape a carto until it's dry, just until it has less flavor and vapor and it feels dry). When I refill a carto, it takes 12 to 15 drops. (When I fill a new carto, it takes about 26 drops, because I don't saturate the filler to the point of overfilling it. I'd rather allow some air to flow through in order to get lighter draws.)

It sounds like either one carto lasts you for two days (which means you're not a heavy, heavy vaper after all) -- or -- one carto dies after two days because you're vaping it way too long before refilling it -- or you're only using one or two cartos, instead of rotating several.

I'm not quite clear on what you mean by "burning through cartos." And how are you losing some of the filler? More details, please.

Wow. I'm only rotating like 3 cartos. I have about 10 but only use about three at a time. Sounds like I need more. Do you have a fave carto? I'm constantly refilling them. The minute I feel that they are dryish, I open them and wet them pretty well. I do have a tendancy to overfill tho. Well, after a while of using a carto, when I open it up, there is more of the atty visible each time. Like the filler is shrinking to the bottom or something. I have had to reposition the atty a few times b/c it was getting really hot and that seemed to help with the overheating, but nothing I can figure out is causing the shrinking of the filler.

I rotate at least 15 and usually more than that, because I refill at least 12 cartos every day (one every hour, or two every two hours when I'm using and rotating two eGos at the same time. I even vaped both of them at the same time, one on each side of my mouth about an hour ago...it was kinda fun). I like to let newly-refilled cartos set for 24 hours, because they vape much better when they sit for that long, since that allows a longer time for the liquid to soak into the filter and create air pockets or whatever it does to create a better air flow.

Also, it sounds like you're overfilling them, and that will cause the filler to shrink slowly and will cause harder draws, plus a gurgling sound sometimes. The filler needs air to be able to flow through it in order to have light draws and a better overall vaping experience.

I rarely overfill a carto anymore, because I finally came up with this system: I drip 12 to 16 drops directly into the filler when I refill a carto--first, 12 drops all in one spot into the filler (so the liquid will drain into the filler quicker), holding the carto at a 45-degree angle, and then set the carto on a kleenex threaded-end down. A few seconds later, drip about 4 more drops into the filler, set it down on the kleenex again threaded-end down. At that point, there will usually be a spot of liquid on the kleenex at the threaded end within a few seconds. Then I know it's full enough. Then I'll usually blow once lightly into the mouth end (to make sure there's no gurgling inside, which would mean there's too much liquid in there), wipe off the threaded end, and it's done. That refilled carto goes at the back of my rotation line to be vaped in 24 hours or more.

During my first month, I spent all kinds of time messing with repositioning the filler using a paper clip, using a condom to refill cartos, cleaning up lots of messes, experimenting with how much liquid to put into the carto when refilling, and so forth. But I finally came up with the system in the above paragraph, and it works great. I no longer have any messes to clean up, overfilled cartos, or hard draws.

My friend, who just started vaping about 10 days ago, is rotating two cartos. She has 8 more that she hasn't opened yet. But that's fine for her, because she only goes through about one each day. She might start on the second one in the evening, but she doesn't vape constantly like you and I do.

Anyway, good luck. I hope I've helped in some way!

Forgot to answer your question if I have a favorite carto. No, because they're all the same to me. I vape the same liquid all the time (listed in my signature), and in the last three weeks, I haven't tried any of the other liquids I bought during my first month. All of my cartos vape about the same. I'm still using cartos that were new about five weeks ago, and they're still like new. Could be because they only get refilled once each day or once every other day. Not overfilling them might help, too.

Deback: handy advice thanks! I'm new to vaping as well (about 15 days now!) and I don't really have a system. My desk has been a mess of carts, cartos, attys, blue foam, tools and bottles of juice for 2 weeks now. Right now I'm just all over the place and cant get enough! Hopefully I will soon settle into a routine and clean my desk!

I use 1 carto a day,I refill from the top often.I use a shorty drip tip so its easily removable.I dont see a reason to rotate and use more.1 is enough. After a 2 or 3 days,I clean it out and put it aside, and open a new one.I can reuse them several times.

Well, of course, everyone is different, but I really like the way they vape (flavor, vapor, and TH) after the filler has had more time for the liquid to soak and mix in. There is a big difference, and I noticed it soon after I started vaping. Those who haven't tried it will never know the difference, though.

I also use a drip tip all the time...it's a stainless steel one from litecigusa.net, and I love it. Loved it so much that I bought two and will probably buy a few more, since I have 7 egos that I'm rotating.

I'll clean a bunch of cartos at the same time after about three weeks of refilling them almost every day. I've described the way I do that in one of my blogs. It took a while to figure out the best way, but being a perfectionist, I came up with a method that works great for me. lol Could be why I'm still using the same 20 cartomizers after five weeks.

I understand! I was there during my first few weeks. I think we all go through that, but most people will come up with their own methods to do things.

You are not alone in burning through cartos, not at all.

The bad news is that you may want to think about liquid-fed mods/devices, which does mean more money...

I have an E9 (mini) which I get about 3 drags on before the carto is too dry to vape properly.
I also have a DSE801 penstyle which lasts for about 15 minutes or so per cart.
Both do ok for flavor and throat hit, but the time I spend filling carts and cartos is just nuts.
I have tried dripping as well but... yeah, one or two hits is all I get with a nearly flooded atty.

I bought a GGTS with AVS and just spent the last 6 hours vaping without a problem. Tank still has juice but my two cr123a batts are out and I don't yet have spares.

There are other liquid fed devices available but the GGTS/AVS was my choice. Expensive, but I think worth it.

You may be able to get carts/cartos working better for you- a mod or liquid fed device is not your ONLY option, but... I would have saved some money if I had just bought one first instead of screwing around.

I've actually had some that sit for a week before I vape them. They still seem to vape just fine. I tend to wait until I have 8-10 empties before I refill them all, then after 2-3 refills, I will clean them out, and while those clean ones are dry, I will work on another 5-7. When I first fill, I tend to overflow them myself and wind up getting juice in my mouth. This is with the Joye 510 carto's however which are made so it's impossible to see inside them. I just got some Boge soft caps today in the mail, and have a new batch of juice arriving either tomorrow or Friday, so hopefully those will be easier to maintain properly.

When I first started, I would refill about 10 to 12 all at once each day, using the condom method. After doing this for about three weeks, things started making more sense and I realized I was wasting way too much time with cartos. So I quit doing that, and since then, I just quickly drip in 12 to 18 drops into the filler of the empty carto I just vaped when I change cartos, usually about every hour or so. Then I place it at the back of the rotation thing I have. This way, it takes about a minute or two to refill the carto, grab another carto, and go back to what I was doing.

I'm currently rotating about 32 cartos (plus 11 that I recently cleaned and haven't refilled yet), so they're sitting longer than 24 hours now before I vape them.

When I get to cartos that are NOT overfilled and have hard draws like they're overfilled (and cleaning them didn't fix the problem), I'm tossing them into the "discard" bag.

When I get to cartos that don't taste right, I'll put them into a "to be cleaned" container (and use the method in my blog to flush, clean, and dry them).

When I get to cleaned cartos that still don't taste right, I'll put them in the "discard" bag.

Perhaps Shan will end up getting all the "discarded" cartos, because I have no plans to take them apart to clean the fillers. Would rather just buy new cartos.

Deback, you have been VERY helpful. Thanks. I let a couple sit overnight and they do vape longer and better. Also, the procedure for filling them seems to absorb much much better now that I followed the suggestions! Very cool! Also, does the filler "plump" back up after you clean them? Can you give a link to your blog please??

Thank you, SW.

Yes, the filler seems to plump back up after you clean them, but only when you let them dry in front of a fan for about 3 days or more. It takes a long time for all of the filler inside to dry completely.

The link to my blog(s) is under my username at the left. They're all related to cartos, since that seems to be what interests me the most.
