I have a Joye 510 model and I JUST ordered a new atomizer last week. I had only been using it for a couple days when today all of the sudden my vapor started to look/taste absolutely disgusting! like literal crisp burning hell. It made me nauseous. I tried to wait a couple hours then try it again but its not going away
can anyone help identify this issue please? I've never had an atomizer last that short, but does this mean that its already no good? I thought that its life depends on when it stops producing vapor..
oh and fyi, I didn't 'burn it out' myself (like attempt to vape when low on juice). my juice was constantly stocked to max puddle on my cartridge the entire time I was using it.
would cleaning the atomizer in some water help, or is it a lost cause? ugh. there goes 10 bucks down the drain :glare:

in other news, I am saving up my funds and its getting more and more urgent for me to finally get an upgrade model. if you have any good suggestions while reading this, feel free to share. this Joye 510 is the only e-cig I've had so far. I know I'm behind in all the great new technology, but I've always just been one of those 'if it does what I need it to do then it works for me' type of people. but lately, that doesn't seem to be the case, and I am having lots of trouble and forced to unexpectedly stop my vaping with this model and its no fun! *sigh*

No tank. Just a simple manual battery + atomizer + cartridge thin little stick set-up. Was a starter kit when I bought it years ago.

Can you post a pic? I'm not the supreme brain on this stuff but as far as I know cartomizers use a cartridge, and atomizers do not. They are 2 different things. I am still a little confused to be able to help.

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse. By cartridge I meant "mouthpiece", you know, just the tiny little plastic thing. When I buy them online they are listed as 'empty cartridges' which is why I referred to it as one. Didn't realize it meant something else too.

first off, i'm still sort of new to this myself. so my advice may not be perfect. after 6months i have learned a little bit tho and i can see you feel the way i did when i started. things get easier so don't give up. we've almost all had a nasty taste once or twice. you said your cartridge is always filled to max so i'm guessing you are using a cartomizer. is it a little tube looking thing with cotton inside? if yes it and it tastes burnt bad it's probably junk sorry. i would suggest buying a higher resistance cartridge next time they tend to last longer. or get an ego battery and a nice tank. i prefer the pyrex aro by smoktech. replacement coils are only $1.50-$2.00 and it's not plastic so it's safe with all juices.

Can you post a pic? It would help a lot.

Hi.

I know what you got. But I am puzzled... Maybe not, now that I think of it. The only time I have experienced something like that drove me nuts. Cartridge never dry, but I couldn't take more than 2 or 3 drags off it before it tasted harsh/burnt. It was a singular weird atty. It even measured normal resistance on a meter, but it must have had something really odd about the build. Even dripping didn't help much. It just seemed to run waaay too hot. It died a short death too.

You could try cleaning - plonk it in a small pan of simmering water for a few minutes - but if it's just a bad build that won't fix it.

Wait a minute - was this a really old used atty you had sitting around and hadn't used in a long time? If that's the case you got a few good draws off of it - before it started burning off the months old dried on crud. That would make sense. Then it needs a good clean and a dry burn to get it back into shape.

sometimes atomizers can spoil quicker than others (had 1 last 2 days and had 1 last 10 days) ... I have gone through 9 of them since I started vaping 50 days ago Tthey do cost me though (5 for $25 incl. tax) ... however, I can't be bothered trying to rebuild stuff yet ... I was spending $350 every 50 days when I smoked, so I am still content. Keep saving your money for that upgrade ... and keep reading threads ... you will find your sweet spot.

Nope, it was brand new just ordered from e cig express last week. I had only used it for 3 days prior to the burning. :/
I just soaked it in hot water for a bit, hopefully thats a step in the right direction. I've never done 'dry burning' but I have read about it. whats the best way to do that?

and for future reference, how exactly does an atomizer die? I mean I've had loads of others in the past, and this burning thing eventually happened to all of them, but usually after months. but now I'm starting to wonder that if thats fixable, then how does one know when your atomizer is truly crapped out and done for?

sorry for all the questions, I feel like such a noob. thing is I'm not! lol as least not vaping wise. I've been vaping since 2011. but I'm just really noobish on my knowledge surrounding equipment and the whole process :p

It's not a cartomizer in this case.

sorry i stand corrected. its a cartridge with a detachable atomizer.
i was wrapped up in joe dirt needing a picture to know it wasn't a tank when it had been clearly stated they had bought an empty cartridge that i forgot about the 3 piece setups.

Ok, now that we know it's a new one then I would suspect you got a bad build.

And you're sure the cartridge is full. But make sure you have the filler pulled up to the edge of the cartridge. When you put it on the atty it will get pushed down a bit. If the fill is already pushed down when you put it on though you may be getting poor liquid transfer to the atty.

What liquid are you using? If it's one of the real atty killers - very dark and/or very sweet liquids - they can gunk up anything in a matter of days.

Usually that kind of atty dies a slow death over weeks if it isn't cleaned. As it gets mucked up the vapor production drops and the draw will start to get tight. As that happens people tend to run them longer and longer to try and get vape out. The longer run times eventually overheats the coil and pops it.

Try the simmering water first. Take it out and once it's cool blow the bejeezers through the cartridge end to get as much water out as possible. Either let it dry overnight or try right away - your option. In either case drip 2 to 3 drops of liquid directly onto the atty mesh first and try. If you didn't let it completely dry those first few drags will be weak until the rest of the water is driven off.

Dry burning? We can go through that if just the hot water didn't do the trick. But you do risk losing they atty altogether when you do a dry burn. See if the hot water cleared it out first.
