I have a few generic atomizers (I will not mantion who I got them from, because I am not looking to bad-mouth anyone's product) and I have a few from Innovapor.

The generic ones sometimes have a very nasty, burnt taste that is really harsh on my throat - and I mean harsh!
I have never gotten that from any of my Innovapor atomizers.

It's not just when the atomizers are dry either...
I held the button down and looked into the open generic atomizer watching juice boil away and smelling the burn.
I have let the Innovapor ones run dry and never gotten the burn.

I have seen pictures of disassembled atomizers and have noticed that some have the heater coil wrapped around a ceramic rod and some have it wrapped around what looks like a little fiberglass rope.
I was wondering if that could be the difference.

I have never taken one of my 510 anomizers apart because I only have a few and in the month I have been at this, I haven't burnt one out yet.
My suspicion is that the Innovapor atomizers have the ceramic rod and the off-brand ones have the fiberglass rope.

Has anyone taken apart different 510 atomizer models to see the difference?
Has anyone taken apart an Innovapor atomizer?

Lately I've been getting this odd burnt taste as well. I have one 510 Yeti atty from TotallyWicked and two from Cignot. The two from Cognot look generic but apparently they're Joye. I'm now getting that nasty burnt taste in all three attys. I haven't taken any apart but, I'm tempted to.

I'm pretty sure that the burnt taste is not a result of letting my attys run dry. I vape a whole lot and I burn through juice like crazy. I'm constantly topping off, refilling and dripping. I clean my attys with rubbing alcohol, rinse them with hot water and let them dry overnight every few days. I blow them out with canned air regularly and re-drip before usage.

I'm at a loss myself, when the drip wears off after a few hit the burnt taste comes back with a vengeance. My wicks appear to be alright, they're still bright white, no signs of discoloration, they do not appear to have been burnt.

I tried a dry burn on one of the Joye attys and that just made things taste worse. I'm not sure if this is related but, it might be. Vapor production seems to drop off sooner during sessions than it has in the past ever since the burnt taste started. I highly doubt that's being caused by a flooded atty because, like I said, I clean the attys regularly and they're not hard to drag. I've gone back to Menthol from my favorite Turkish Blend flavor to mask the bad taste. I miss my Turkish Blend, please help us!

All atomizers are shipped with some shipping fluid on them so they don't dry out. Some seem to have more on them than others. I clean them before use but only in this manner - I use 151 proof vodka - it's strong enough to take away most of the fluid but not strong enough to damage, imo and in my experience - haven't lost one yet. I soak new ones for 15 minutes to a half hour - blow them out by mouth only three ways, batt end, cart end and then cart end again holding a finger over the opening on the batt end. And then dry out on a towel for a 1/2 hour, blow out again and then connect up drop 2 drops of juice on it, top off a cart and vape. Sometimes the fluid taste is there and if so I just huff and puff for a bit then start regular vaping. Sometimes when the juice is running out the taste is still there a bit but after the second top off of the cart and just a few drops on the atty bridge, the next time is it entirely gone.

Now you can get a nasty taste when you're out of juice but it is a different taste than the more nasty shipping fluid taste. The only other bad taste I believe one can get is if your atty bridge is in too close contact with the plastic edge of the top of the cart - this is usually caused by the bridge or the mesh on the bridge being off center - in which case I take a toothpick and lightly nudge the bridge/mesh toward the center - I've never broken one off and I'd hesitate to recommend doing this but it is what I do. I do not believe that I've ever 'burnt' the filler material yet I've had filler material sitting right on the bridge. Some think that is the case, I don't. I will take some tweezers and pull out strands just for Monk type considerations :)

I also don't think one can 'burn' the material wicking that is part of the bridge. Some do, I don't. I now never touch this stuff. I didn once and while I didn't kill the atty, I think I wounded it... not the best performer. All others work well.

The reason I only use 151, not coke, isopropyl, or anything else is that I've never read where using 151 correctly has harmed an atty and like Jim Davis has pointed out, it dries quickly because of the nature of the proofing, it's intended for consumption unlike isopropyl that also leaves a bad taste and a coating according to those who have tried using that. And I've read a few cases where coke has killed a few attys although I know people that still use it with no problem. I just know some say they've killed attys right after coking them.

Hope this helps.

I spoke too soon.
I started to get a slight burning taste from the Innovapor atomizers last night - still not nearly as bad as the off-brand ones.
I removed the nylon-rope looking fibers from the atomizer bridge and that seems to have addressed the problem.
Some of them defintely had burnt ends.
One of the off-brand atomizers still has the nasty burnt taste, even though I removed the material as best I could.
If I can't get that restored, this will be my first victim in the atomizer spare parts box.

I still want to know about the atomizer pots I saw with the ceramic rod, as opposed to the fibrous material, as the material the coil was wrapped around. This is what I want to use in any mod I do - and if they are available for the 510, I will pick up a dozen or two of them.

I know the grease taste of the new atomizers you were referring to, and that is not this.
This is eye-tearing, nasty, burning rope smell and smoke.
