So my first go with a wick and coil setup on a Provari. I'm using 30awg kanthal wire with 325 ss mesh. I used the Peter K method for building the coil. Coil is at 1.3 Ohm. The coil seems ok. No errors on the provari and no hot spots. I think I may have burnt the wick though by dry burning to much. This burnt taste is killing me:(

I need help.

You don't have the hot leg? I dry burned my ss A LOT until I got the right wire and was tought how to build one. I mean 8 hours messin around when I knew I had the wrong wire getting it glowing hot almost every time. I really don't think you can burn ss from what I experienced but a hot leg will make it taste burnt

It could be issues with either the coil or your wick.

If you over-oxidized your wick with a flame, it could cause a burnt or harsh taste. I suspect I did that with my first wick.

I believe a "hot leg" is any part of the coil that glows brighter than the rest of the coil. A properly set up coil will glow evenly throughout the length of the coil.

Ok so I think the burnt taste and smell is coming from the positive screw, where you connect the wire to. When dry burning I can smell it. Does anybody else ever have this happen to them? I'm almost certain its the positive screw because I took the screw out and heated under a lighter. May be I should blowtorch the screw and wash it?

My coils look good.
