I was wondering if when your cartomizer gets that burnt-like taste to it if you have damaged it. Can it still be refilled at that point?

Once a carto is burnt you might as well toss it in the trash. Refilling won't get rid of the taste.
live and learn, after a while you just kinda "know" when to top the carto off, been using the same 5 cartos in rotation for almost 2 weeks with no burns yet.
after the initial fill im pretty good for about 15-20 mins of vapeing, i just make it a habit to look inside once in a while and see how dry it is.
lol, no problem, took me a while to get into the swing of cartos, just gotta keep an eye on the filler, once i see the top is dry, i add a couple drops, has not let me down yet.
if you only got the slightest hit of singe (which is bit bitter) you may be able to keep using it. I use one very very sweet juice that can overpower a bit of bitter singe. And I use one cocoa tobacco which is not hurt by a small it of singe. But if your juice cannot overpower or use the bitter the singe added, toss the carto.
I rarely singe them but over a period of 2 weeks (which is how long I use a pair of cartos minimum) I will sometimes singe one a bit.

I agree with Dormouse. Sometimes if it's not too bad, I add a few drops of juice to the battery end (provided you have a manual battery). If it's not better after I do that, it's usually a done.
If you have coffee flavors also, they can mask it..only if it's a little singed. If it's burned then I would toss.
I use thin juices - 20% or less VG and often 10% or less. Occasionally one of my cartos is vaping so beautifully that I have no clue it is almost empty. No lie - last time I singed one it needed 24 drops and it is only a 1ml carto. Usually I will notice around before 1/2 empty that it might vape better with more juice.
You must of been having an off day, dormouse. I just can't imagine you burning a carto. Had not been for your advice from when I started, I probably would of toasted all mine.

Haha. Thanks. I actually try to make habit of occasionally checking how the stuffing looks now matter how well it is vaping (easy since I use a drip tip as mouthpiece). I try to check before putting a fresh battery one it (because batteries are higher voltage right off the charger and have more ability to singe). I try to check before leaving the house (since it's easier to top them off in the house than riding in a car etc). And since I use juices that don't really stain the stuffing or leave sediment, my stuffing gets much lighter or fully white when it could use some juice. But that one day it was not only vaping so sweet and sharp edged and well but also very moistly - I had no clue. Took 3 drags in a row then tasted the singe. Worked out OK though. I am still using that carto.
I singed one worse once, to the point where the sweetness of that WOW Vanilla juice could not overpower it. Then it's useless to me because the KR8 is my sweet hit to contrast with my other ecig's flavor.
