They very well know regulations don't keep a kid from doing anything. They've got regulations out the kazoo on smoking as well as alcohol and drugs and it hasn't stopped them. No... they're not stupid (in some ways) and they're crafty. The goal is to regulate the behavior of adults because they have personal issues and can't cope with the sight of what reminds them of smoking or that of anything else they just don't like.... gutless little whimps in my view who have to have something or someone in their lives to hate on. And, the others? Well, they're happy those folks exist because theyre the ones who back the regulations that will line their pockets... think corrupt politicians and government coffers. In other words... they USE them.... so, yeh, they're not stupid but only in some ways. And, ya know what? They're next and deserve what they get.

Except that there's no compelling evidence to suggest that a so-called nicotine addiction is an intrinsically bad thing. People like to throw that word around, "addiction," as if it were an unassailable indictment, when in reality there isn't even a clear, scientific definition for it. Is it an addiction if the behavior doesn't harm the user in any obvious or even measurable way? If so, then isn't any constantly repeated behavior -- to include purely beneficial behaviors -- also an addiction? And if any behavior that people repeatedly engage in because it's beneficial falls under your definition of addiction, then why is stopping addiction an end in itself?

The bottom line is that you must judge the worthiness of behaviors on a case-by-case basis -- and by the way, if you wish to judge behaviors responsibly and in good faith, then you must also understand that there's more to life than longevity; that is, people define their well-being by a whole host of different factors, of which long-term physiological* health is only one, and probably not even close to the most important when you really get down to brass tacks. Guarantee a young man an extra year on this earth, and he'll most likely thank you -- but if, in return, you must take away his ability as a legal adult to choose for himself how to live, then he'll likely spit in your face instead.

(* - I use the phrase, "physiological health," because apparently the public health industry couldn't care less about risky behaviors undertaken by fitness nuts, or undertaken in the pursuit of fitness. While we're on the subject of fitness, and to echo a previous point, most people don't pursue fitness purely because they want to enjoy a few more years of old age. They work out because they want to look sexy, or because they enjoy physical activity, or yes, in some cases, because their exercise of choice carries an adrenaline rush -- like, say, rock climbing.)

More to the point, one must always balance the well-being of individuals against the collective good (or what passes for the collective good based on the political scare tactic du jour). It is not my problem that children might eventually take up vaping. Even if you could demonstrate beyond doubt that a significant number of those children never would have smoked (which you cannot do), the only response you're likely to get from me is a giant shrug. New people might take up a recreational habit that is very unlikely to hurt them in either the short or long term. Heaven forfend!

Why should my ability to vape be restricted or impeded just so someone else's kids might have a slightly harder time obtaining PVs? Enforce the minimum age laws, and let the parents handle the rest. Unless I'm to be given a share in all of the sex that went into making the kids, politicians should content themselves with collecting my outrageously high property taxes. Or set about to prove, using real science, that vaping represents a clear and significant danger.

Excellent posting! Thank you very much for saying it so well!

And yes, I know some health nuts who get fidgety, nervous and edgy if they cannot go jogging for one day. I am always like "Huh?"
May this be a kind of "addiction"? Should this be banned? They are obviously suffering withdrawal symptoms. Hm.....

And think of the injuries, people off sick with torn ligaments and whatnot. The most lingering illnesses of my colleagues at work have all been sports injuries. Torn ligaments, broken bones, shattered bones, a shattered shoulder.... And yet they persist. And they do it again, as soon as the injury is half-way healed. Yeah, talk of "addiction".

Of course people are freaking out over it! the answer is so clear yet the public will just eat whatever crap gets funneled into their mouths and beg for more.

Big Tobacco is freaking out worldwide because people have finally found a reliable and preferable way to get away from the stinkies.

Big Pharma are freaking out because aren't buying their crappy NRT which does absolutely nothing and has the absolute balls taxed off it.

Governments are freaking out because the billions they rake in per year (per month even?!) are being threatened by a reliable alternative to stinkies.

Health Advocates (that have been paid to talk out of their poop chutes by governments and all of the above) are freaking out because people aren't listening to the absolute [expletives] that they're talking about ecigs.

And finally ANTZ are freaking out because people can still get nicotine without stinkies, which are nice and easy to demonise. Try as hard as they might, ecigs are tougher to demonise because there's little (if any) health risk whatsoever, and i'd bet my last grimy bottom dollar that there won't be any found.

I heard my appalling Senator, the dis-honorable Chucky Schumer prattling on yesterday about e-cigs, and how bad they are for the "children". Let me be clear; if I said what I truly felt about this ......, I would surely be banned from this forum.

That being said, if these ding-dongs are so concerned about the "children", how come they are spending the future generation into abject poverty? They will be lucky enough to afford to feed themselves, let alone afford to vape.

We care about The Children so much that we have been sending them to never-ending wars for over a decade. I know people younger than my kids who have done multiple tours. They were in elementary school when it started.

Surely if they're that concerned about the children they'd be doing more to outlaw stinkies and push e-cigs as the future. In my mind a device that can deliver nicotine with minimal, yet unproven minor risks, is a hell of a lot better than a method that's been around for centuries and has been completely proven to be definately fatal? 'Murica logic :(

There's more common sense in this single thread, than what's likely been put to legislative debate in our respective government bodies over the last 10 years.

It's plain and simple folks. It's great that we all come here and post our opinions and feelings. We must have this sort of outlet. However, it's all for naught if WE DONT DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! It's up to us to VOTE THESE CLOWNS OUT.

We must all be willing to get involved and make real change. Whether we like it or not, our way of lives are slowly migrating to a oligarchical caste system, and it will go too far unless we stop it!

Contact your legislators, council people, city & village managers. Let them know what you think. Identify candidates that stand for your values AND VOTE FOR THEM. Become a candidate yourself!

If the powers that be were truly concerned about anything but votes and money this would be a much different country. They would have banned adding anything but tobacco to cigs, alcohol would be unflavored and illegal to advertise, they would actually cure some diseases not just find better, more expensive treatments, etc etc etc.

But so many more people drink than smoke so votes would not go there way, there is more money in life extending treatments than cures, they still need the cash from cig sales but also want to look like they are protecting the children.

Personally, I love the "save the children" and "normalizing smoking" arguments. If this is the best they can come up with, as desperate as they are, then it just reassures me that vaping is pretty safe to do. If they would been able to come up with any kind of substantial evidence that it's unhealthy, they would have been all over it.

I really bloody hope that the whole ban thing doesn't get any worse in the US, it sucks enough for you guys as it is with 95% taxes popping up everywhere, that's governments outright bending you over the table and rammin' it home. Something that does make me ponder though, i thought the US made it's decisions based on the voice of the people? How is a 95% tax legally introduced if the people didn't pass it?

Difference is in the UK they don't give 2 flying f.... what you think, if they want to ban something, it'll be banned, if they want you arrested, you'll be arrested, if they want it shut down, it shuts down. It's more of an "illusion" of a free country rather than y'know... a free country

Tell me how many 15 year olds you know that couldn't make their own e-cigs if they banned everything. If we couldn't buy beer we just brewed our own when I was a kid. Hell, it was more fun to brew it than buy it anyway.

They wanted to raise the age limit to 21 here this year to "save the kids". A 15 year old that wants to smoke (or vape) doesn't even care what the age limit is! The only person that would have hurt is an adult (by law).

(I know this is a subject that's been covered too many times, but I need to get this crap out of my system.)

As a Vapor I follow a lot of news cause it affects me, my friends, and my job. Every day I hear about a politician on a personal crusade to ban the evil that's electronic cigarettes. The most common reason they say in their defense is either, "We don't know anything about them." or, "We must protect our children from cigarettes or anything like them." On the outside I just nod and listen patiently (cause common courtesy told me so). However in my brain I'm purple in the face screaming some of the meanest things I can imagine.

They (the politicians, doesn't matter if red or blue left or right doesn't matter) say that they don't know anything, therefor it's deadly. First off, everyone (I politely assume) knows there has been research done on E-cigs since the last decade, and they didn't find anything (deadly rather). So them saying this means they are ignorant and they don't google or have the gumption to get one of their staff to do it. Ignorance is just as dangerous as a loaded gun in my opinion and I'm surprised people still pay their taxes to these people.

"But what about the children?" imaginary voice is saying in my head. "If there are no smoking alternatives then the children are safe from EVIIIILLLLL!". Okay, sorry, but if you think little Timmy or little Tory are not going to try anything cause it's expensive or illegal, I have not done enough drugs to truly understand how stupid you are (if you the reader is a parent I'm not referring to you, I'm sure you have a neighbor that comes to mind when you read that statement).

Personal Vaporizers are the only method that worked for me to quit, and for thousands they have a story similar with the same outcome. The V2 or Njoy style didn't do it, drugs or patches didn't do it, my SVD and my ego did. It may be that the tobacco companies are freaking out cause their analogs are obsolete and vaping is here to stay. Who knows. I just know that my teeth can't handle more grinding when someone tells me I'm going to die as fast using my K100 or my VTR. "Just smile and nod..." I would remind myself.

Sorry for the venting folks, I needed to get it out of my system and my wife has already heard it from me X_X. Thanks for your patience ^_^

Have you taken the time to Write or e-Mail your Local/State/Fed Reps and let them know how you Feel?

you know they can take that right away from us any time and put us in similar to a "felon" category because we've lost our rights as a menace to society.... you know that's not a stretch though it sounds that way.

Anyone with rudimentary knowledge of recent history should be very nervous right now...
