First, welcome to ECF!

I started with a 510 and while I like it, the battery only lasted me a few of hours. I ended up getting a Riva, which uses all the same parts, just has a much higher mAh battery and lasts me the entire day. You can get a Riva kit, which is similar to the eGo, from Liberty Flights for $30.00. I haven't even seen a 510 that cheap, but maybe someone else can recommend a great place/price for a 510.

juice is highly subjective. Some of my favorites have come from vaperite, vaporbomb, alien visions, and johnsons creek.

looking to purchase my first ecig tonight. From what i have read it seems the joy 510 is probably the best bet for the money. Where should i purchase this. And where is the best place to get the ejuice?

I am new also but i did my research and bought a joye ego from cignot.com and its great. I got 1000 mah batteries and can go a couple days without recharging and my favorite e-juice is from backwoods brew.net :) hope i was some help

Welcome to ECF..My experience was a 510 start, then up to the ego/riva where I was finally able
to let the stinkies go. The smaller sized ones just did not take the place of a pack a day habit
Liberty Flights is great for its prices and $2.99 shipping, heard their juice is good
I use Tasty Vapor for my juices, favorite is Atomic Cinnacide, you might want to try
sample pacs from vendors that have them, vary the nic and pg/vg levels to find yours

Joye 510 or KR808D-1 (in colors aka Vapor King at vapor4Life.com) are great starting units

And if you get 510 I recommend you get a Joye 510 for your first because they are the original manufacturer and there are some substandard clone parts around.

And if you decide on KR8 then I think Vapor4Life is still having 30% off on orders over $60 with code SuperSale30

Comparison

KR8 seems a bit thicker and its standard size battery (not the shorty or xl) lasts the longest of all approx 120mm minis because more of its length is battery (510 is a 3-piece and part of 510's length is atomizer). Both are good choices and eventually I ended up with both.

For either I recommend a PCC (a personal charging case) so you can charge a battery on the go while using another. For all day at work I use a charger but when out I use a PCC.

Re juices - people all have their own faves. Some popular ones I like are FreedomSmokeUSA.com (my faves are caramelley sweet oRYental 4, Vanilla Tahity and Chocolate for mixing in other flavors, Desert Ship as an analog-alike, and their new Voodoo is really interesting). and Backwoods Brew (my faves there have been all-day vapes - Casablanca and Vanilla Bean).

I also like Velvet Vapors (I love their sweet vanilla almond tobacco which is mostly sweet rich vanilla, and their Raspberry Ginger Ale).
