I think the consensus is that the nautilus mini and istick mini make one heck of a dummy proof starter kit. I would be concerned about flavor too, make sure to give her a few bottles to sample.

I think a trip to the B&M is essential. I would also make sure to let her parents know to send you the starter kit in the mail if it just ends up in a drawer. I have given out over 60 complete vape set ups over the last 2 years. I would say 20 of them were given out multiple times. I dont care if you decide to quit vaping, but I would care if a perfectly good set up went to waste.

Those sound good and fits my budget, then I could throw a couple of CE4s in the box for her mom. Would it be too cutesy to buy a shuffle or an ipod mini to sort of match and put an apple sticker on the istick?

Sorry that we veterans are considered old.

I wouldn't say that. I also wouldn't say that your wisdom wouldn't be appreciated in another format like Reddit.

My comment was to mention that young people have a different expectation of discussion and facebook, instagram, twitter and reddit are more what they are used to and what they are more inclined to use.

I do use the e-cig subreddit and obviously this one, and I would love nothing more than for some older, more experienced vapors to come over and lend their wisdom to that subreddit, but it doesn't happen. Just like it rarely happens that 18 year olds who are pushing the boundaries of vaping pop in here and share their experiences.

Well, good for you Wendy for trying to be a positive influence in the lives of your family and others. I hope you didn't see my post as condemnation. It wasn't intended that way, only advice and recommendation. I think what you are doing is great.

My son is 20 and is in the Navy and smokes and vapes. I am sad that he does so because I am sure part of it is him seeing me smoking all his life. I spent all his life telling him of the evils of smoking that I couldn't quit, and he did it anyway. That's on me. I made it a normal part of his life.

Hopefully, you can make vaping a normal part of her life and get her away from the smokes and into what we all hope is a more healthy lifestyle.

No I didn't read condemnation at all, you have made some very valid points and it's helped me articulate and clarify my goal in regards to this. That's awesome, I have ADHD so most of the time I sort of operate on vague hunches, it's always better when someone can provoke a clear line of thought from me.

Modeled behaviors are only part of the equation, the more I read about smoking and ADHD and high risk behaviors and risk seeking personalities the more I'm inclined to believe that there's a genetic component that can mess up the best of parenting. I did grow up with smokers but my primary caretaker was always a nonsmoker and none of that mattered when my friend (Jackie) offered me my first smoke despite having a very deliberate internal debate well ahead of time on whether or not I wanted to smoke. My mind was made up before I ever had a cigarette. For that matter, neither of Jackie's parents smoked. Kids suck at risk benefit analysis even when they have all the information. I hope your son starts vaping more and smoking less.

thanantos , Why would you think her niece should be on any ecig forum ?

I guess I don't. No one would be unless they had some inspiration to learn more.

That being said, I can tell you from experience that reddit generally has a younger user base as does this or most any other traditional internet forum. That shouldn't in any way take away from this community. I am here specifically because of the wisdom here.I think it is a great repository of information and reasonable discussion.

However, as a member of a number of online sub-cultures I can tell you that older member tend towards more traditional type internet forums and younger uses tend towards more modern ones like FB, twitter, or reddit.

EDIT and maybe more to your point?: I think any vapor should be involved in some sort of online community regarding PV's because the technology moves so fast that it is hard for anyone to keep up. I imagine it's even hard for those those who are a part of the industry itself. It is fun and healthy, but it's hard to get a grip on sometimes.

I lurk on the reddit electronic_cigarette subforum from time to time. It's not as diverse as ecf, and I assume people are too afraid to post something out of fear of being downvoted to oblivion. Here, there are no downvotes, if someone doesn't like a post, it gets ignored and that hurts the feelings a little less I suppose.

Also, there's not a whole lot of content on the reddit subforum, here there's hundreds of thousands of posts to search for knowledge and how many members? Reddit doesn't have nothing on ecf. Not bashing reddit, I love it, but not for matters such as these.

I consider a generic EVOD the minimum, CE4's are horrible. The $10 EVOD starter kit from My Freedom Smokes is better than most.

"A few juices to try" -- how? If you're going that way, would be better off with a handful of cheap clearos instead of (or in addition to) one nicer one, for now.
OTOH, going to a juice shop, experience helps because their taster equipment may be inconsistent: I got a few burnt hits at Avail last night despite their equipment being overall the nicest; another shop has an a aging fleet of CE4s that are OK for a short "taste" but not a full drag.

I haven't tried the EVODs so I wouldn't be able to argue one way or the other, but I do have CE4s as my daily and I'm not buying my step sister a nicer PV than anything I own before I get one myself. She can suck it up. She lives with my mom for free, if she wants nicer she has a job and can buy it for herself. As for my niece, that's different, she's my niece and I'll get her covetworthy stuff.

E-juice; I have some (quite a bit) higher nic stuff that tastes good that I've barely touched or never opened before having to switch to lower nic and pick up a couple of 0 nic for her at the shop that's local to me, and then buy a gift certificate for a shop that's local to her in a couple weeks when I get paid again.

Wendy, I haven't yet seen this mentioned so far. One of the recurring things I see on this forum is that people who were doing great with quitting smoking by vaping have gone back to smoking due to equipment failures and having to wait for replacement equipment.

When some of us recommend having backups for your backup's backup, we're not being silly. Seriously consider buying 2 of everything you choose to buy, along with at least a dozen of any consumable parts like coil assemblies.

Definitely, I've gone back to smoking a few times due to the same issue. I will definitely add more to her collection (if she takes it up and stays with it) as my finances permit.
