If I understand it correctly it will now go to the Judiciary committee, if it passes there it will go to a full senate vote. If it passes the full senate, then it would go to the house, and if passed there would go to the governor to be signed into law. It's been awhile since I took government, but I think that's how it works.

Thanks, yeah, been about 20 years since high school... my bill > law knowledge is a bit rusty.

Doesn't it go to the House and then the Senate? Not the Senate then the House? I thought that's how it worked in the federal gov't at least. Either way it would have to pass through both, still a long way to go.

This is a Senate bill, meaning it was proposed by a Senator to the Senate, bills can either start in the Senate or the House, and would then need to be voted on by the other body before becoming law.

Bills can be started in either house, this one is a senate bill and will have to pass there before it goes to the house to be voted on. The house can amend it if they see fit and then it goes to a committee to be hashed out and they both have to vote on it again. Write to your legislators, this is just the first round.

I got stuck in traffic and missed most of it but I didnt hear 4 in favor either but it was kind of jumbled at the end. I wish I could have heard all the evidence but all I heard was a university study that said there was harmfull aspects to the vapor but nothing in regards to how harmful or if it was at all harmful to bystandards. Sounded like it was a under developed study and a quick reaction without full details.

It was that stupid UCSF study about metal particles. But UCSF is revered like a god in northern California, they aren't as world-famous as Stanford but they do cutting-edge research that Stanford doesn't do. But come to think of it, she did NOT say it was UCSF Medical School....hmmmm. Wouldn't it be fun to get someone from UCSF Medical School to testify on our behalf? Dunno if we could find anybody, though.

My senator, Sen. Beall (pronounced Bell), was not there. But if BOTH missing ones vote no, it will still be a tie. When we come up before Judiciary, I think we need to make points about beaches and parks, since vapers ARE part of "the public."

Dunno about California (and I should) but bills go either way either place EXCEPT the U.S. Constitution requires the U.S. House to start budget bills, and there might be some other special cases.

I missed this ... does anyone know how Monning voted??

Monning is the one that gave a 5-minute speech about not wanting anybody to get evicted for vaping in their own apartment, and about not wanting to tell doctors they can't give vapes to their patients if they want them to have less stress from withdrawal in the hospital. The bill already allowed for that in hospital smoking areas, but he said the hostpitals need to be able to decide, medically, what they want to do. Then he said he'd vote for it FOR NOW in this committee meeting but he expects to see changes on those two issues before it gets to Judiciary (which he is also on) or the Senate floor.

My opinion: he's probably against the bill in his heart but he'd rather use his influence to get the worst parts of the bill removed, which he could not do if he voted against it.

I think he was also the one who wanted paper cites for everything Greg said (and what Sen. Corbett said) which I take to be another way to be able to justify going against the bill if she doesn't make the changes he wants to see.

I plan to volunteer to work for Sen. Beall's campaign next time he's up for reelection if he votes our way (he has not voted yet) and against him if he votes for the bill. I plan to cross the Dumbarton to work for Sen. Corbett's primary challenger at least 2 days next time she's up.

That was my understanding too but Greg confirmed that AND warned that if this is being pushed hard this could happen quickly. He said he'd give VERY SPECIFIC Calls to Action for each of these events. He probably cannot keep coming this far for each event.

After watching the video, the general support for the bill was.... Everyone is banning electronic cigarettes, and ZOMG smoking!

Those in opposition actually presented more thoughtful, detailed, factual-based arguments.

Guess it's time to go all Shawshank Redemption with the letter writing to legislators, eh?

Thank you. I was too nervous to hear anything but my head :p I look way calmer than I felt that's for sure.

The three gentleman who spoke before me certainly knew their stuff. LOVE the priest version of the e-cig :D

The more I have thought about this, the more I realize, this stupidity can't last forever. As more people begin to vape, and more truthful information comes through from honest sources, the tidal wave of common sense will wash this nonsense away. In the mean while, I will vape in front of as many people as possible and educate them to the best of my ability. And like Greg, I will also stealth vape wherever the hell I want. :pervy:

Thank you so much to all of the members of the vaping community who were able to show up and speak against this bill. Your efforts are truly appreciated.

So disappointed that the state that I have called home for my entire life has voted yes on this bill. Picking up more stamps tomorrow and ready for the next round of letter writing. Hopefully somewhere along the way this bill will be stopped.

Watched the video ... "GREAT JOB" to the speakers who represented all of us!!!!! THANK YOU.

And wow, there were so many there supporting ecig's. Thanks to all of them, too.

It's hard to understand why they'd pass this bill with no "real" evidence and it was said more than once that "further study is needed" - even one of the senators said the study presented against ecigs was "questionable".

Could it be perhaps they had their minds made up before ... and nothing said really mattered?

Or maybe they thought it was best to "play it safe" ... Dunno.
