Can a pen-style batt be bad even though it seems to charge and behave normally?

I've had two batts now that seem to charge fully, and the LED lights normally when you suck on them. But if you connect them to a known good atty/cart combo, nothing. By switching around components, I've isolated the cause to the batts. Could it be a connection issue? Or do they get to a point where, even though charged, they don't put out the required voltage or amperage or whatever they're supposed to put out?

Thanks,

Hi, Cheryl,

I've had two 801 batteries that failed that way. Both got very hot in use, and I disconnected them. After they cooled off, the switch would still activate the LED when sucked on, and placing them in the charger would indicate they were already charged. However, neither would heat the atomizer.

One of them had a very faint charred electronics/burnt wires odor. The other did not.

Both were replaced under warranty, and the replacements, knock on wood, are still working a month later.

lucky, you have not seen all the combo these batterys can give you yet.

1.eveything looks normal, atty don't heat

2. led stays on, battery charges, atty don't heat

3. led stays on atty starts sizziling when attached to battery won't turn off burn up atty

4. nothing, no led, no charge, no heat to atty

5. strange sizzle sound from battery, take off atty, puff of smoke come out of battery.

6. every move you make the battery heats atty, no puff needed.

probably a few more just can't think of them.

Some atty's for some reason will not work on certain batterys, but will work on another battery. Last week or yesterday work on that battery. These things are crazy or I am or both.

It's kinda fun in a subculture sorta way, but it has its aggravating moments.... LOL!

Might try stuffing a pipe cleaner down them, or shooting some alcohol in them and then draining thoroughly, as I've seen elsewhere on this forum, before giving up on them. Not sure they're still under warranty, and since I'm leaning toward purchasing yet another model altogether, not sure I'd want to do the whole RMA thing anyway.

Right on point Taz3cat--I find it hard to belive that both batteries failed and IMO it is a connection issue--------Sun

I'm hesitant to go poking and prodding and trying to manipulate the connectors on either unit. For one thing, I don't have the recommended bamboo skewers and wouldn't even know where to find them. I guess if a consensus recommended pulling up on the connectors, I might try doing so with a tiny eyeglass-repair screwdriver or something... Thoughts, comments?

Cheryl--when you have a connection issue--you take a paper clip or tweezer and place it in the atomizer hole and pry up on the middle peg (positive). I is the atomizer middle peg that countersinks too far sometimes and does not allow a connection. Give it a try as you can not hurt the atomizer--just do not pry too much too much with and use the wood if you are going to attack that battery!!-----Sun

But what if it is clearly a battery, not an atomizer, issue? Can I do the same thing to the battery? My batteries have a little ring with a flat top on which is imprinted a serial or model # or something. There's a hole in the middle, and what looks like plastic underneath on the outside. Not sure I could get anything in between the connector (I'm assuming that's the part with the imprinted number) and that plastic. Could I safely stick a metal tool into the little hole and try pulling up?

Cheryl--yes you can do that with the battery but I assure you IMO that it is the atomizer and not the battery --there is no play in the battery threads like there is in that atomizer peg---this is getting reported more and more --I first reported this January!!!! It happens with passthoughs and batteries where the treading is off on the atomizer--some atomizers will work and some will not--so again it is an atimomzer connection issue and it is difficult to correct----Sun
