Newbie here. This may be stupid but, Is there a reason someone couldn't make a big mod using an 18 volt rechargeable battery. The reason I ask is that I have a Hoover Lynx upright vacuum. The battery puts out power like my KGO w/o any loss, when it does run low it just shuts off like my KGO. Is it not high drain? One would think it would be a high drain with rotating brushes and suction - though not like a plug-in vacuum.

Been reading about batteries (still don't get most of it) and other than a size concern when out and about, why not have a much bigger battery?

BTW, I absolutely LOVE my vacuum.

This question is presumably an attempt at humor, but let's look at the implications anyway...

A simpler way of doing this would be to get a cordless drill battery pack of 12v or 18v and drop the voltage with a regulator to a nice PV working voltage of about 4.5 volts. You'd be talking about a desk unit for use while in your library, I assume :)

However since it may be easier to just use a PT / passthrough, not too sure why this would be needed - except during power outgages maybe.

Another use for it would be to make up a belt pack that would vape for a week before needing a charge. Now that does have a use - remote living, boaters, fishing trips, etc. Imagine a 4.5 volt beltpack-powered PV that only needs charging once every 5 days or something. Nice.

You've got me thinking now... I need a regulator that will accept 10 - 20 volts, and outputs 4.5 volts, plus a slot-in holder that takes my cordless drill batteries. Some flexible wire to the PV, silicone sheath high-flexibility cable probably - OK, domestic alarm cable will will do for that. Hmm...
