Can anyone else find in the proposed bill

I skimmed over the text that relates to tobacco in the "Family tobacco bill". I cannot find any statements that identify which federal agencies currently have jurisdiction for the MULTIPLE laws presented as being needed when in fact there are laws ALREADY in place that address practice "x, y, z". I mean, wouldn't ya want to know which law will supercede which...and WHY those other agencies were doing such a bad job at enforcing current laws that the duplicate new ones need to be written w the FDA as the agency w the con? If they were doing such a poor job...shouldn't SOME of them be fired????? Defunded??? SOMETHING???

If you never smoked a day in your life...this incredible WASTE of ink might drive you to at least drinking!! I would think that in their "findings" section they might have said.."after a document search we found that there are currentl laws that address a whole bunch of what we want to address...so we aren't sure how to grab power.....so we want the authority to supercede everyone in our path...'cause in could get kinda sticky not to mention expensive w two agencies having the responsibility for two identicle laws".

AND WHAT does this bill have to do with "families"??????????????? Why not title it "the crack cocain tobacco act"????? Hanging the MASSIVE scope of this bill on the fact that minors are more likely to start smoking than adults is beyond insane. IT IS ILLEGAL TO SELL tobacco products to minors.......ENFORCE THE LAW! Along with stopping the sale of crack ........

MASSIVE is right... and it makes for a hilarious read, if they weren't so serious about it, a couple of my favorite excerpts:


Sec. 902 A tobacco product shall be deemed to be adulterated if-
“(1)It consists in whole or in part of any filthy, putrid, or decomposed substance, or is otherwise contaminated by any added poisonous or added deleterious substance that may render the product injurious to health

I also love the attempt at fearmongering:

(35) Tobacco products have been used to facilitate and
finance criminal activities both domestically and internation-
ally. Illicit trade of tobacco products has been linked to orga-
nized crime and terrorist groups.

(35) wouldn't be necessary if they hadn't raised cigarette taxes so high that people have been forced to turn to the blackmarket. In New York, drug dealers switched to selling contraband cigarettes (I think a pack costs about $10 there); it was as profitable as illegal drugs and, since cigarettes are legal, carried a lesser criminal penalty.

The "Bill" creates more jobs for a "scientific" advisary board and staff all paid for by "User Fees" by the tobacco companies. It's another money grab from the government to justify the war on the "tobacco epidemic" and continue lobbying for more and more money. The money will be used to fund the campaign against the product...which is definitive of the term "irony" in my book.

It has always been, and is still true today, a shell game to look as if these individuals are actually doing something when in reality...they are feathering their nest.

Check out the bottom of the HR1256 bill....the Thrift Savings Plan...for governmental employees...auto-enrolled with minimum of 3% payouts beginning in 6 months from the date of enactment. October 1st is the beginning of the year for the Federal Government..Cha-Ching!

I hear ya ladyraj, I saw that too. Guess I need to to get a government job. I saw those user fees. Man, who will actually be able to afford to smoke tobacco? Not that I want to.
