im a new vaper dude, and ive really been struggling with the constant sore throat everytime i vape. i am vaping the volt juice with the prefilled cartos...and and am wondering if i can drip some drops of VG i have directly into the cart down into the filler material so i can change the pg/vg ratio? im not sure if the VG will saturate into the exsisting PG so i dont get so much harshness from the standard volt cart. i have previously done some DIY with other bottled mixes, but im not sue if i can just drip staight VG down into my volt cart and it would blend into the cart good enough to get the ratio of mix i want so i dont get such a sore throat from vaping? i love vaping but the PG is just killing me !!! i have also ordered some Nicquid too, so im hoping the pg/vg ration of their juice is more to my liking. i really like the volt juice but im tired of the side effects. i am planning also on buying some bottled volt juice soon also so i can make my own mixes from them cutting them with VG, but i am waiting on a new shipment of a bunch of prefilled carts from volt so i dont wanna waste them and i wanna be able to vape them pleasureably...by cutting them with VG. please advise if you can help me. p.s i have also vaped 100% VG juices and they give me a sore throat too.

Maybe it's not the pg/vg that's giving you the sore throat. It's possible that the nicotine level is too high, making it very harsh or strong for you. Also, being a new vaper, you absolutely MUST drink tons of water. Another possibility... you could be reacting badly to the filler material inside the cartomizer. Try a delivery system without filler, maybe a clearo or a T3.

If you decide to top off your cartos with plain vg you might want to thin it with a bit of distilled water first. Also, you will really mute the flavor of your juice. I'm sorry you are having sore throat issues, have you been vaping long? If you are still in the beginning stages, you may be having some of the side effects of changing to vapor from cigarette smoke. You might have to up your water intake and it's possible you could get some relief by changing your vaping technique. Lighter, shorter draws maybe? As mentioned, lower nic could help too. Good luck, I hope it's just a phase you are going to pass thru soon.

ya, ive always had sore throat issues ever since i started vaping for a few months now. i just cant seem to stick with it even semi consistantly due to the sore throat issue. let me say this first that i smoke "light 100's" analogs and im a real light smoker anyways...i smoke only about 10 cigs a day at the most. im 52 years old (as on tomarrow is my birthday-yippie) and ive been a smoker all my adult life. so i wanna quit smoking cigs so i started vaping a few months ago. my first ecig was the "starfire ecig" that was 100% vg and i vaped all the five prefilled carts that the kit came with...the juice was 11mg tobacco flavor and i stopped vaping those because i didnt like the taste of the juice because i thought it had no real tobacco flavor and it DID also give me a sore throat. after that brand i bought a "prosmoke" kit and got 100% tobacco flavor carts that were 14mg...i absolelutley HATED the flavor of prosmoke juice and again it gave me a sore throat...so i ordered more prosmoke carts that were less nicotine strength, i went down to their 0mg and also bought their 8 mg strengths. I still vape those on ocassion, but i really hate the taste of prosmoke juice so i swiched ecig brands AGAIN !!! i then bought a kit from Halo, got the Halo G6 kit and also got their tobacco sampler pack at 6mg and also got of couple of the 30ml bottles to try also. i got the same sore throat again almost instantly after vaping the Halo juices so i wouls stop vaping for a couple days and try again, and thus would get a really sore throat again and again. now when i vape i only take 5 to maybe ten puffs and that would be only just here and there throughout the day and evening because of the sore throat so i still think its the PG ratios even tho the 100% VG both hurt my throat so bad but it still makes it sore afterwards somewhat. now lately when i first got my newere Volt kit the juices did NOT effect me TOO BAD so i thought well maybe THIS TIME i have found the right juice for me. but am still just yesterday vaped a little in the afternoon and got the sore throat again. i have read all the forum post on here about the sore throat issue and have read that alot of NEW vapor users have the sore throat thing and alot o them say that you have to just get used to the vapor....and im aware of the higher nic factor and aware of the pg vs. vg thing....so im not sure what to do about this cause ive invested alot of money on different kits and juices and i am now expecting a new shipment of Volts carts. now when i first started with the Volt i was vaping their 6mg nicotine strength sampler pack carts. i love the flavore but now im getting the sore thraot again....my new Volt cart shipment i ordered is 12mg because i was thinking that maybe i was taking too big of a puff off the 6mg carts trying to get the TH compared to an analog...not sure about that now tho. my analog 100 light cigs are super light and i dont get very much TH anyways so i now ordered the Volt 12mg strengths. i mcant seem to vape ecigs very little at a time and seem to get a sore ache hours later but it goes away after about a day or so, then i can vape alittle again. i hope the other posters about the sore throat thing are NOT right when they say that it might take several days or even weeks of solid vaping for me to get used to the sore throat aspect. i lile the simplicity of the Volts ecig and i like the carts, ect...i dont think im interested at this point in trying to do mods and clearos and such. i like to try sticking with the analog style sized pv at least until i can get to vaping regularly and get my off of analogs for good !!! hopefully this whole vaping thing is as good as i think it will be eventually, if i can get over the sore throat. AND - i constantly drink lotsa water (and alway due anyways) and i also alway suck on hard candies alot especially before, during and after i vape. maybe im just a BIG WIMP and im so used to only smoking 10 "light 100" analogs a day that i might never be able to get 100% into vaping instead on analogs? not sure what to do about this so PLEASE help if you can. and i hope im not just told that i will have to just sufffer through the sore throat until i get used to vaping. like i said - my nic levels are low and ive tryed different ratios of pg/vg and all that already...not sure what to do now cause i really wanna vape more and enjoy the whole vaping experience. thanks to all who replied so far !!!

While not common, some people suffer from allergies to VG. You could try 100% PG. Just a wild shot in the dark.

Also, you might be sensitive to the filler material. A wick based system might work better for you. Everyone wants to start with a ciga-like system, but you gotta go with what works.

EDIT: Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking! The most important thing is to keep trying to find what works for you. Quick thought, if you have tried 100% VG, with the same results, why do you want to add VG to the Volt juice?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEARJUNKY!!!

I'm so sorry you are experiencing this pain. Seems like you have been trying everything imaginable. You could also try a clearomizer or CE3's. You would have to fill with a syringe but they don't have any filler. There are some vapers who have allergies to the filler in the cartomizer. Also, you may have to see a doctor to have that checked out. Take care of yourself and don't despair. Hopefully you will find a solution soon.

Welcome GearJunky and Happy Birthday!! :toast:

Since you've tried a few different ratios of juice and still seem to have problems let's try something else. If you are willing to try something that is just a little advanced, watch the following video...How to make your own Juice tester with an old cartomizer - YouTube

This would be a cheap way (since you already have the parts) to find out if the filler in the cartos is causing the problems. If it is, you can switch to clearomizers/CE3/T3 type systems and keep vaping. The CE3 are sized the same as a carto and looks good on the 65/78 batteries. The clearomizers work on the little batteries but look funny. The T3s only work on the X2s and Spinners.

Keep trying, we're here to help!

i was also thinking about using my previous "prosmoke cig" that is a 3 piece unit with the seperate internal atomizer and i have already boiled (cleaned some carts out) and i could partially filled the prosmoke carts with other juice to see what happens that way. they have a different looking and type of filler material too. like i stated earlier i can vape the 100% VG juice better without so much of a sore throat afterwards but it still gives me somewhat a sore throat but not so bad as a more or a PG based liquid. i still have all my other Halo juices and i'm gonna also do more experimenting with those juices in some different brand blank cartos. it seems i can vape here and there and it dont bother me alot, but somedays it just raws me out. i am barely even vaping regularly yet. i have been vaping the same 5 Volt sampler pack cartos for two weeks now. i vape on a flavor for 5 or 10 draws then take a good long break or wait to the next day and then vape a different flavor. im also sure my carts are not dry because they still give lotsa vapor and all still taste good with plenty of flavor. i can still smoke analogs as usual but that is now making my throat hurt just slightly. i will now have to wait another day or 2 to start vaping again and do some more experimenting. i will also look at the SI website and look into clearos/ce3/t3 things. i was also expecting a shipment today for my new Nicquid sampler pack so i could try out that juice mix ratio of 60/40 and try some fruit flavors to see what that feels/tastes like but THE SHIPMENT GOT ACCIDENTALLY ROUTED TO THE STATE OF FLORIDA....so i guess that's gonna be delayed for a few more days at least (that sucks). and i went to walmart tonight and stocked up on more hard candies...lol. thanks to everybody who replied to my post here --- if anybody wants to give me more info on those clearomizers/ce3/t3 systems please do that.

Happy B-Day, gearjunky! Welcome to the Smokeless Image forum; we'll help you however we can. After your explanation of what you've tried, it seems like the next thing to try would be filler-less vaping. The trick with pulling the filler from a cart sounds like a good experiment to start with. If that works for you, you're home free; there are several options available.

ya, tomarrow im gonna soon try the remove the filler technique. i personally think its just that im sensitive to PG liquids...even tho my 100% VG bases also bother me but no where near as bad. im just now today recovering from the sore throat i got from just even lightly vaping on thursday. gonna give it one more day to feel better then im gonna do some experimenting. and i was reading some other posts last night here on the forum and read a pretty big post about "vaping technique" or something about the hazards of vaping or something - and i read that the reason many, many newbies get sore throats is mostly because VAPING IS NOT REALLY SUPPOSED TO TECHNICALLY BE INHALED DOWN THE THROAT and read that PV's were not even designed to be inhaled like an analog cig but smoked more like a cigar strictly by drawing the vapor slowly into the mouth and then exhaled...it was a quite lengthy post about vaping techniques and scientific studies that have been done about vaping. i dont recall the location of the post itself now nor do i remeber the person who posted it but it was really quite interesting to read that about NOT INHALING THE VAPOR INTO THE THROAT. actually quite a few times when i would vape i would do that anyways, just for the flavor like i was puffing a cigar. im not sure what everybody else is doing technique wise, but i assume from what im usually reading about vaping is that most people actually DO INHALE THE VAPOR DOWN INTO THE LUNGS. please correct me if im wrong about that part? if i stumble on the post about that topic i will make a note of its location and post that into a reply here on this thread soon. thanks again to everyone with your thoughts on this subject !!! (please tell me if "you" inhale the vape or nor so i will know")?

Happy Birthday, I dont have much helpful to add except to agree with tail11. My fiance is mid switch now, and she has issues with coughing up a lung when she goes from cigarette to e cig. But when shes stayed on the ecig for a day or two she can blow vapor rings like a champ with no cough. Let us know what you figure out

Eeeeh... I don't know what post you were reading but... That just makes absolutely no sense... You do not absorb nicotine that way - it has to go down to your lungs to get into the bloodstream. If you were not supposed to inhale the vapor then there would be no point in choosing nicotine amounts or anything.
I've never heard of that - but then again I don't venture too much around this forum - I tend to stay in one place =)

Best of luck - let us know how the experimentation goes !

I most definitely inhale! Nicotine is absorbed by mouth tissues, but not as much as in the lungs, I think because the lungs have more area exposed, don't quote me, I'm just trying to recall what I've read. This is the way the nicotine gums work. Either way, hope you will be able to figure this out and be able to vape without throat issues.
