Can I ever really make my wife happy? Maybe if you help me.

So, HRH has a Reo Grand. Loves the concept and performance, but it more towards the 18490 side of things. So I recommend a 2.1 to her. It's still too large. She wants one even *smaller*. Tiny hands and all.

Enter my (old) Reo 14500.

I've heard success stories of people modding the old 14500 models to accept an 18490 battery. Is that person still around, and maybe willing to chime in on how it was done? The center divider would have to come out somehow, but I still think something would need to be worked on in order to make it all fit in there.

Thanks in advance all!

There's not, Dufftime. A long time ago someone (would never be able to find the thread!!! Sorry) actually cut a "window" out of the back of the body of a Mini and somehow fit an 18490 battery in there.....that's really (I think) when talk of the 2.0 all started. The battery stuck out the back of the Mini. Rob started making the 2.0s (then the 2.1s which are the same size but with a bigger drip cup to accommodate the rebuildable attys these days) which have replaced the Mini. It can't be done (bigger battery) without major surgery. When I use my original Minis, I just carry an extra battery with me. It's not really a problem at all.

Thanks for the responses all, it's exactly as it seemed: major modification is needed.

Seems like at current size/her state of tolerance a REO isn't for her. She's a .8 ohm micro coil person pretty much exclusively, and 14500s aren't going to support that, but a REO can't be had at the 14500 size and hold an 18490. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

Thanks guys!

The part of Canada that doesn't get enuf Snow :(
That one we got an 18490 to fit before we cut through the back...but it was as thin as tin foil. Not good. If Rob makes the super mini woodvils, perhaps that would be more to her liking. Very comfortable to hold...same size as a mini woodvil, but the 18490 fits.

I was just about to suggest the same  get a super mini for her then she be happy and hopefully you too.

Ignore them. There is no super mini. If there ever was, I will let you know about it after I get my order in :D

Ever squonk that battery by mistake?

I can guarantee I would.

come to think of it...I think I have. It's my least favorite Reo now....if that's even possible. It works just fine, but it's not.....you know....whole. Just feels wrong in the hand. But for the sake of the cat....we took the curiosity hit.
