Can Someone Explain to Me Cartomizers?

I started purchasing some accessories today and keep seeing them on various sites. I am curious as to what they are, or what the advantages are? Are they less hassle then regular cartridges? How is the filling process?

I was already planning on doing the blue foam mod so that I could make regular carts last a bit longer, so I became very curious about the prospect of a cart that I wouldn't have to re-drip liquid into foam to fill.

Basically a cartomizer combines the cartridge and atomizer into 1 piece. Therefore every time you change one you are getting a fresh atomizer. For the beginner I think it's much easier to use. It's what I started with a month ago because in doing my research I decided I wanted the simplicity of a 2 piece design over a 3 piece. It is all I've ever used so I really have nothing to compare it to. I ordered a mess load of flavors so have really only refilled a couple of times. It is a fairly easy straight forward process. I used to smoke 2 packs per day and have find that I go through 2 cartomizers per day.

Here are some diagrams I made to show the internal construction of cartomizers and regular cartridges.

Thanks for the added info. I understand what they are, but everywhere I read they were mostly intended to be disposable. So I was trying to find out if cartomizers are just as good as regular carts with the blue filter mod, will they last just as long? As far as I was aware carts will basically last until you ruin them yourself, is this true about cartomizers as well?

Yeah, they wont last as long, i think BUT they are $8.95 for 5 of them (blank and ready to be filled) so cost-wise I think they're about the same. The convenience is worth it anyway - just grab and go. Plus the draw on them is easier - more like an analog (as you can see from candre23's picture) since the air goes straight through instead of having to go around the cart.

yeah, the CARTS will last forever but the ATOMIZER will die after anywhere from a week to several months of use.

Hi and welcome Aggort

...I was trying to find out if cartomizers are just as good as regular carts with the blue filter mod, will they last just as long?

Let's see if I can shed any light here....I think the part of the equation you are missing is the ATOMIZER...........cartridges are nearly indestructible but also have to be paired with an ATOMIZER, which are most certainly NOT indestructible. A good average life for a 510 atomizer is about 4-6 weeks, but for some people it seems much less and for some lucky ones, much more.

With a cartomizer.....there is an atomizer built into each one, but it is not as durable an atomizer as a standalone one. So in making a cost/benefit comparison, it is not a comparison between cartomizers and cartridges, do not forget the need for a seperate atomizer with the cartridge. Or for the mathematically inclined Cartridge + Atomizer = Cartomizer

For me, in early stages of cartomizer use, I think money wise it is pretty much a wash....the convenience is not even comparable.....cartomizers win hands down.

Ah yes Mick that was very much a huge help! I have plenty of empty cartridges that I intended on using the blue foam technique to use which seems like it will be just as fine for me until possibly the two atomizers I have fail and then maybe I'll try the cartomizers.

So I take it that my initial statement was right on that cartomizers will fail before the atomizers usually? Speaking of, how do you dispose of an atomizer once it fails?

Basically it would break down like this?

Advantages
Atomizer + Cartridges : More durable, reusable.
Cartomizer : More dispoable, reusable, easier draw, constant fresh atomizer

Disadvantages
Atomizer + Cartridges : Harder draw, Less simple to refill
Cartomizer : Fails sooner, not as durable.

EDIT: Heck looking at my advantages/disadvantages it definitely looks like it all becomes pricing choice.

to your last question, yes in general that is true, but as with all things e-cig, YMMV

I didn't catch your back story, but personally I would be terrified to only have two addys on hand, I came off 35 years of two packs of coffin nails a day, and I won't allow an atty costing less than a pack of smokes, make me go back.

If this is working for you already, please consider getting backup coverage in the way of spares just as soon as it is finanacially feasible.

See my previous post re: get backups asap

So I take it that my initial statement was right on that cartomizers will fail before the atomizers usually? depends on your usage...many variables....but fair enough in GENERAL Speaking of, how do you dispose of an atomizer once it fails? DON'T...save em......more on this another time

Basically it would break down like this?

Advantages
Atomizer + Cartridges : More durable, reusable. yes but disposable none the less
Cartomizer : More dispoable ???, reusable, easier draw (you will resolve this...not really a factor imo), constant fresh atomizer BIG PLUS, , IF you are a person who vapes more than one flavor on regular basis, it eliminates the cleaning hassles to change flavors, The biggest factor of all is they hold MUCH more juice in fillup...this became my biggest e-cig complaint and cartomizers solved it

Disadvantages
Atomizer + Cartridges : Harder draw, Less simple to refill Neither is rocket science and you'll be doing it with your eyes closed in a week with either
Cartomizer : Fails sooner, not as durable. again I gotta fall back on it depends on your usage

EDIT: Heck looking at my advantages/disadvantages it definitely looks like it all becomes pricing choice.

See my previous post...simplified and basically same cost for me ...YMMV

Sorry I guess I should add I am a very light smoker. My girlfriend and I smoke Black & Milds on occasion say twice a week, but we were looking into being able to do it more often through Vaping. I bought both the DSE801 and Joye510, so I have 2 DSE801 atty's and 2 Joye510 atty's with batteries to boot. So basically I was looking into if it was cheaper for us to use atomizers or cartomizers and if it was indeed possible to reuse cartomizers.

What I mean by more disposable is they are supposed to be disposed. I was wondering if there was anything I was supposed to do with an atomizer besides throw it away. But you answered this, so thanks! The way I see it I will order cartomizers as my back up and try both, see which I prefer as far as I can tell it's basically going to cost me the same thing give or take $5 either direction.

Sorry so wordy....bored I guess :)

Cartomizer very slightly more expensive; provided you are comfortable with a little more maintenance on cart/atty combo and good at it :) save a LITTLE money.

Being new just remember if you are having trouble getting consistent satisfaction, cartomizers are not the expense they might first seem, again provided you are willing to care for them.

Whatever you decide, it's always flexible and there may be something tomorrow that makes both options obsolete.

Good luck and keep vaping!

Given a little more background to work with, your decisions are good ones for starting out.

Thank you, I was really following guides hard, which for me is unusual.

Would you perhaps know where to find blank cartomizers? Also, do they make cartomizers for the DSE801?

First I used prefilled cart for the 510. Then I went to direct dripping. And I recently tried 510 cartomizers. I find that direct dripping provides a better throat hit. The cartomizers gives good vapor but does not provide a good throat hit.

I was interested in dripping, but I am afraid of flooding the atomizer and I was also wondering how long does 1 to 2 drops last? Also, if I use different flavors how would that work out if I want another flavor? Would I have to wait until the first is all gone?

I'm not aware of 801 cartomizers.......anyone?

Vapor Kings has 510 cartos....so does NHaler....get blanks and fill yourself

2 drops on a 510 atty (AFTER being primed) will get you 6-10 good juicy puffs (and btw....in spite of my screed on cartomizers, I EXCLUSIVELY drip at home.,,,cartos for convenience on the go

Oh and if you do flood the atomizer....screw it out, blow it out on a napkin or kleenex.....and start over......no biggie

All, that's the info I was looking for! Should I worry about flooding it as long as I stick to 2 drops?

BTW I gotta leave right now so any more info about dripping would be greatly appreciated!
