Can someone give me a concrete debate confirming PV's are NOT negative on you health?

My parents stole my whole setup out of my room one day and aren't giving it back until I can prove there is nothing negative about it. My dad did some research and apparently claims vape is still bad for your lungs etc. my moms exact words were "show me a doctor who will tell me that it's doing nothing to you, and ill give it back.."

Mom is also threatening to tell my gf about it, who I've hidden it from for a couple months now.

Kinda ...... off cause I just paid $60ish for my new setup and they blatantly took it from me.

Even if I get it back they say its not allowed in the house, but I can still do it at my buddies house.

If you're under 18, I don't think it would be wise for us to tell you you should be using nicotine. Not trying to be a buzz kill, since most of us probably started smoking when we were under 18, and I think this is MUCH safer, but I don't think anybody can say for certain that this will not have any impact on your health.

I'm 22, and I know that sounds bad...but I'll be going into the Air Force within a year, so my mooching days are up.

And my mom had cancer and well as my grandpa (they're both still alive and clean), so the "smoking" issue really hits home with her.

She said she doesn't know why I need to do it and has no clue what it's doing to my health.

I told her I simply enjoy the taste and to see my vape projection, but never really needed the buzz.

She doesn't understand that either and says "you're just addicted to the nicotine, which is a DRUG!"

No duh mom...so I caffeine.

And when I told her everything causes cancer nowadays , she just responds with "so why purposely do something that may or may not cause it?.."

I feel this is one of those issues I'm not gonna win, so ill just have to let it be.

I remember when my my Mom found out there was nicotine in ejuice. She flipped out.

Until I pointed out that combustion and the other adjuncts in tobacco are the issue, and nicotine is barley a blip on the radar in comparison.

I find it important for the other party to understand the fundamental differences in combustion and vaporizing.

so this shows some things....
we are all hoping that you smoked before you picked up vaping... then again saying that your parents took some of your stuff away made us think you where 16, either way, vaping is safer for everyone compared to ciggys...
Granted it would be better to quit cold turkey, but as we all know quitting smoking is hard!

Actually the jury's very much still out on how safe these are. Certainly there are fewer combustion products than in a cigarette, but think about all the times we talk about 'burning' in relation to our coils.

Then there are so many variables involved in our equipment which would pretty much mean a generic study isn't enough--whatever device that is would have to be looked at individually. Also rules for 'proper use' need created so we can can test within them. We're probably a decade away from really having a good idea what the risks are.

It took a long time to prove that cigarettes were harmful, and everybody doubles over coughing those up the first time.

If it will help, here is my story.

I used to be a very heavy smoker & it had got to the point I couldn't hardly walk upstairs without being out of breath. I used to also wake up in the middle of the night with my arms above my head gasping for breath :(

Then over 4 years ago I bought my first e-cig & I now vape heavily instead. And I can now even walk up a long steep hill without getting out of breath & no longer wake up gasping for breath.

As many have already noted, PVs have just not been around long enough for definitive studies. I think many of us are still wondering if you started with analogs. From a personal perspective I can tell you a few things: 1) I work in healthcare and I am comfortable saying vaporizing is a better alternative to smoking, 2) you mentioned becoming a service member and as a previous auxiliary member I can tell you vaporizing will be a positive once you start PT (you're still not going to have access to any vaporizing/smoking while in BCT), and 3) Cigna (Insurance provider) has noted that electronic cigarettes usage is a viable smoking cessation method. Hopefully this helps, but it does appear your parents have set you up for failure in this argument.

if they got their mind set on it, it's a never winning fight...

water is good? think again
fish is healty? ever heard about lead
co2 is bad? live near a street?
tomatoes are good? have nicotine

I can't say anything, just: good luck, and good luck in the air force. Could use that one to convince "the top gun" to stop smoking? long time since i seen that movie :p

edit: have to say: in the thread, i'm not + or - on this one.

Just an FYI, those are Navy pilots in that movie.

I think your best argument, jcp, is that you're an adult and you can make your own decisions. Granted, you should respect your parents' rules while living in their house, but it seems weird for them to take away your property when you're an adult.

I'm sorry, i said long time, and as no excuse, different landmass :p no offence ment, still good flying wished

and i'm also on "house-rules": no smoking inside but vaping was better since it was "quitting", but that's my story

No offense taken. You didn't say they were Air Force pilots, but it's a common mistake to think they were. I was just throwing out some useless trivia in case anybody cared to know. And, not being an American, I have no cause to think you should ;)
