Does anyone know if vaping can help snuff dippers?

My 28 yo son is a hard core dipper (Copenhagen fine cut). He was introduced to it by an assistant baseball coach in high school (thanks coach…great role model!). After being diagnosed as “pre-cancerous,” he cut back drastically and recovered. However, he has slowly relapsed back to his old habits.

I’ve heard that dipping is harder to quit than smoking. If vaping can help snuff users, that would be incredible!

Thanks.

I was in the same boat as your son. I dipped for almost 15 years (Kodiak) before I was finally able to quit. Unfortunately for me, the only thing that worked was to start smoking again to help with the cravings. The other option was to take an axe on a tour of the mfg plant I was working in at the time. The good news is, I did quit dipping (and yes it's about 10x harder than smoking due to the near constant influx of nicotine), and even quit smoking after that. I did start again 3 years later and now I'm here trying to vape instead of smoking.

In my opinion, I think a low mg juice and something like the box mods might be best to keep him from going analog. He'll be vaping a lot to simulate the copenhagen but the good news for him is, anything is going to taste better than that stuff ;). The trick will be to find something that isn't too sweet or he'll drop it pretty quick. I know I've seen some rum, and whiskey flavored juices that might work since it was pretty common to put a cap full of Jack Daniels in a can 'back in the day'.

I think the hardest habit he'll have to break is thumping the can before dipping. I still catch myself thumping as a nervous habit and it's been almost 10 years since I last dipped.

Tell him it can be done, but it's going to suck. No pun intended. Another 'trick' I used was using dentyne gum to fill the dip dent between my lip/cheek and gum. It's gonna burn but it'll help break up part of the dip=reward patterns in the head.

I hope this helps you both. Feel free to PM me about other tricks I used to break that habit but don't feel bad if there's a delay between Q and A, I check this board daily though. Good Luck!

Thanks! At least I know that vaping has helped. Grenage, I had the same concern about starting him to inhale his nicotine. However, he has tried gum several times without success (and it's expensive). I need to find a mild juice with no th for him to try. Thanks for your help.

To be honest, I wasn't aware that snuff was that bad for you (I'm not a user). If pills/gum don't work, then I suppose vaping might do. It's unlikely to be a gateway to real smoking, because real smoking is comparatively disgusting.

You're right on the gum being pricey, all of the approved 'nicotine therapy' products cost a bloody fortune.

You know, everytime I get on this forum, I receive nothing but positive reinforcement, inspiration, or just plain good information. Everyone is just awesome, and I get a genuine feeling of caring and giving.

Whynotvap, thanks for your advice and inspiration. I didn't know the can thumping was a hard habit to break. Must be like the hand-to-mouth habit of smoking - very difficult indeed.

Vlynn, if your brother and friend were able to quit dipping with vaping, my son sure can. Thanks for providing hope!

The spirit of Aloha (spirit of giving and helping w/o expecting anything back in return) is very much alive and well on this forum.
