Can vaping skew blood tests?

Does anyone knows if vaping would skew the results of a 12 hour fasting blood test? I've always smoked before getting them, but don't want high glucose levels popping up. Maybe the sweetness in the juice isn't even relevant, but thought I'd check it out with others.

Any thoughts or links?

Thanks! :)

I'd think you'd want to know if there was anything caused by vaping. Go along and vape normally and have everything checked out. You'll feel better knowing everything, and you (and your Dr.) will probably be surprised by your (hopefully good!) results.

So far, I haven't seen anyone be able to confirm that there is a change for the worse by vaping. I've only seen reports of improvement (blood pressure, lung function, etc.). PG and VG are not supposed to raise blood sugar (this is posted by MaryKay in this thread
I posted in this thread a while back. I vape 11mg to 0nic liquid and have had no increase in my sugar testing from vaping. None. I vape most at night while on the computer and I test at 11pm, I am under 150 every night. This has been my normal pattern for almost 6 months. If I was doing something wrong, my 2 or 3 testing a day would show it. The only changes are when I "cheat" with my food intake. My Dr. is thrilled. I am happy she's happy and off my back! My B.P. which has been very high..is now in the low normal range.
I don't know about Nic being so bad for you as a diabetic but since I do vape low amounts I am not worried.
I meant to add that I vape P.G. with about 10 drops of glycerin per 10ml's. I have even tried Glycerin thinned down with distilled water and Lorann's..no difference in blood sugar.
Check Wiki for P.G. and V.G...it states that it will not raise blood sugar.
I am on Insulin and am a type II diabetic.

If you have kidney, liver or sugar issues, you probably should inform your Doctor that you are vaping! Always a good idea to be upfront regardless. Nicotine can have effects on various things, so if you are getting more nicotine than when you smoked, you may have changes in blood work.

Good luck and we all hope for good results for you!

Less -- I don't believe so. I had a blood test done recently (last month) and there was nothin out of the ordinary. High triglycerides, but that was about it.

You are right Steve--myself, and Trobical Bob are also constantly get blood work every three months and nothing has ever come back askew.

Steve--no high triglycerides. I knew TB was doing it so I started about 9 months ago just to make sure evey 90 days and there is nothing going on. I would like to see more people reporting in on this!!

Wow!! You guys rock with some quick answers.

I am a diabetic, so one of the tests will be the A1C. That gives a 3-month snap-shot of my overall sugar levels, so that part won't make a difference. My problem is that I have to fast, but what the heck -- I'm not swallowing the stuff. I'll vape as usual, like I would have smoked. At least they will get a "true" picture of my lifestyle.

Unfortunately my results won't help the forum, because this is the first test since I went on meds for the diabetes. I began vaping in early June, so both overlap each other and won't produce any useful results. Poop.

Thanks all so very much for the answers and good wishes. I will report back.

(What's the deal with high Triglycerides here? I've had those for years.)

well ... keep us posted on what the results are like Less! Be very interested to find out :)

High Tri's ... who knows ... i plan to try and job about a mile or two a day in the afternoons ... I was doing it for a month or two several months ago. Helps releive stress and made me feel good! also started yoga, but i'm not sure yoga for stress, but i doubt that would do anything for tri's considering tri's come down with physical exertion i believe...

who knows ... i'm just the guy that sits on the table and gets his blood drawn, then gets called on what i need to do to fix it. i leave it at that :)

I had blood tests in early June of this year my good cholesterol was low (need to exercise). And my hemoglobin was mildly elevated...due to smoking. Blood sugar was normal. I started vaping in July and went to doctor day after last 3 day holiday (labor day?). Anyway...lungs were better than they had been in 10 years (almost clear, but I still smoke a little bit) and he called a couple of night later just to tell me that ALL blood tests were now in the normal range! Oh yeah, I haven't been exercising either because I have been too busy reading this DARN forum!! :)

I just had blood tests about a month ago. I vape at least 3 ml a day of only VG (high nic) and have for about 8-9 months. I have had glucose and cholesterol tests 3 times in the past 10 years and my tests came back the best they have ever been. I was very surprised since I have a family history of real issues with both (and I turned 50 this year). My glucose level was down a few points and my cholesterol was down over 30 points!
I vaped right in the doctors office. The nurse wanted a demo.
The only new problem I had was I ended up with an inhaler for asthma. But I guess 34 years of 2 packs a day on top of allergies will do that.

The lung thing I CAN comment on! Last time the doc was hearing a rattle and wanted me to go to the pulmonologist for lung capacity tests. X-rays showed lots of infiltrates. I didn't bother with the capacity test, but did go for a CT/stress test and passed. My arteries/veins are still "flexible" despite the continued nicotine use. I plan on gradually reducing my nic juice levels to keep it that way.

On my follow-up with the doc, after vaping for a few weeks, the rattling was GONE. I coughed like a mad-woman for about a month after switching to vaping, and since then? Look Ma -- no coughing!! No wheezing!!

I'm very glad to hear that vaping doesn't appear to muck up the blood glucose levels. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

aschmidy -- Sorry about the asthma thing -- but I guess we all punished our lungs for a long time. :(

frankie1 -- LOL -- yes! Sitting around on our computers while vaping with our PT's isn't the best exercise.

CaSHMeRe -- my understanding is that once you go on the Triglyceride meds, you're on them for life. I was about 45 when I started taking them. Who knew?

I've had regular blood workups ever since I began e-smoking in January 2008. But previous high cholesterol problems put me on cholesterol-lowering meds, which have worked wonders for me. I swear by my little pink pills. I now have an envious blood profile one nurse said she'd kill to have. Perfect across the board, and no impact on liver function from the meds.

I have never considered inhaling my vapor to have any substantial impact on anything. Too little of everything that might impact results. In fact, for the last fasting test, I had a strong snus in my mouth during the blood draw. That's about 10 times the nicotine an e-cig can deliver. Perfect.

I'm due again in November and I'll use my e-cig and probably be sucking a Stonewall during the test. I consider those practices relevant, since I do them every waking hour. I need to know if they negatively impact blood pressure, heart rate, and blood content. So far, the answer is "the meds are working perfectly. Keep doing what you're doing."

Question: I have had slightly elevated cholesterol for years.

One day when I showed up for a fasting blood test, I was asked whether I had refrained from food and smoking for 12 hours. Smoking? Uh, no, had never heard before that was a requirement. I had smoked a few cigarettes, as usual, but decided to go ahead with the test anyway, since this is how I had been getting tested for years.

The next time I had the fasting blood test, I refrained from smoking and the LDL number was a little lower. My TC went from around 246 to around 230. I have not had a test since I stopped smoking and started vaping.

What I am wondering is whether there is something in tobacco smoke that affects the numbers, but not necessarily the nicotine. I guess I will find out. I'm due for testing and will go in having done my usual vaping. We'll see what transpires.

BTW, one of the things affecting my total cholesterol number is that my HDL stays very high (71 last time it was tested) because I absoluately REFUSE to go off estrogen.

I've got to ask..... what the heck are triglycerides?

triglycerides are fats, from animals, and oils, from veggies. If you know the structure of glycerin (wiki), imagine the three OHs are attached to very long carbon-chains. That's a triglyceride. When a triglyceride breaks down, you get long-chain acids and glycerin...this is how glycerin is made, wither with vegetable oils or animal fats. When you use veggie oils, like in the production of biofuel, you get glycerin made from veggies, thus vegetable glycerin, VG!

So there ya go. That's where VG comes from. It is the same compound as glycerin, but unless it says vegetable, it comes from the animal processing industry.
