I have a battery that has always needed the center post adjusted to get vapor and told that to the friend I lent the batt to. He returned it to me no longer working and I wonder if he's done something to break the connection or loosen the center post beyond repair. I don't know the anatomy of a battery very well, but that center post looks pretty loose. Any way to troubleshoot and fix this battery?

Thank you!

I am no expert, but pulling the center post on the battery is probably not the best idea to do, would say pulling the post on the atty or carto would be better. It sounds like the wire connected to the center post may have broken off inside the battery from moving that center post too much, probably better off just getting a new one. Dont think its worth your time trying to fix and could be difficult.

Truth be told this was a battery I found in a parking lot and was doomed from the start. Just had it around as a back up. Learned from several other sites to adjust it this way. But WHOOPS! I just pulled the center post out...that's the end of that! So much for troubleshooting. Can I cut this thing apart to see the anatomy of a battery or am I really asking for trouble?

If it's an eGo or Riva or similar, you can pop off the end cap and remove the battery. It's a single cell with some foam cushions to float it in the tube. There are wires soldered to the cell that feed the regulator mounted on the threaded end. You don't want to short it in the process, but it's not hard to get out. If you have an old atty that you can screw on and wiggle, the top section with the switch comes out, too. Once you have it out, the eGo protection circuit is no longer connected, so don't let it short. I don't know if the battery inside has a protection circuit on the cell itself.
