You could clean your tank every hour and there wouldn't be any issue except more work..............however, there is a difference to me between cleaning your tank and cleaning your coil. I have never had any taste issues that were related to my tank specifically but the coils, if they are not clean; the juice taste bad and burnt. I clean my coils every day whether they need it or not.

I clean and switch out my tanks about once a week with simple hot water.

EDIT: I do soak everything I use in vodka before use as well

When I say clean the tank I meant the coil too, sorry, I'm still learning all the part names and e cig talk :) I take everything apart and rinse with hot water, then wipe everything dry and dry burn ( I think that's what it called ) the coil put the rinsed and patted dry flavor wicks back on put a drop of whatever e-juice I'm going to fill the tank with.

no worries, we all learned somewhere and is why I wanted to clarify.

Personally, I have 5 coils in rotation. I take a coil out every day and put it in a Tuperware container. When I have 3, I soak them in vodka for a few hours, rinse them with water and let them dry overnight. I don't personally dry burn, it never has done much for me but I have coils that are over 3 months old right now just by doing this method and no dry burning.

I tend to clean when I change flavors or the juice that's in it gets darker, than it's normally supposed to look. I usually keep 3 protanks running at once, with the same 3 flavors in each. When it startes getting cloudy or dark and thick looking, I'll take them apart and give them a good Efferdent soak.

Drummer, do you only use clear (clearer) juices? Dry burn is needed with darker juices (like coffee) as they really gunk up the coil.

I have some of both and my most used is a mix of a caramel from one vendor and apple from another...dark and very sweet. If you soak a coil after one use, each time.....it is hard for it to gunk too much. The water rinse take out anything that the vodka broke up and in my experience, if you wait until you have to dry burn it to do it, it is close to the end anyways.

EDIT: Although I did use cappuccino at some point, I don't have any tobacco flavors or coffee flavors used with the Protank........it did work with the cappuccino in another atty

Interesting Drummer...very interesting. BTW what do you do with the Vodka after you're done?

drink it of course.................nic high and a good buzz

I'm new to all this, but when I learned to clean & dry burn my tanks, I started saving money, which I like.

I was throwing away my clearomizers when I started tasting the burnt liquids, but since I've been dry burning, I can use a tank for weeks (I've only been doing the cleaning about a month & haven't had to chunk a tank unless I cracked it or it started leaking).

So for me, it's whenever I get to the burnt taste. It's usually about every 3 or 4 days. I've got at least three in rotation.

I learned last week, that it's pretty important to let them sit & dry out for a day or so even after the dry burn.

The art of the dry burn is hard to get right. With the Protanks, you need to know what grommet you have between the pin and the base. If it is clear-ish, it is less likely to get burnt in the process but if it is a drab white, almost yellow-ish color, it is rubber and if you burn the grommet in the process, you will ruin your tank. That burnt taste will never go away.

When/if you do, you should soak it in water, let it dry..........remove the chimney and the chimney silicone, flavor wicks and dry burn.......in short pulses (like 3 seconds) until it burns red. You can blow on the coil between bursts to cool it off. Once everything is off the coils, wash it out again and give it a night or a day to dry and re-assemble. Make sure your flavor wicks go back in the exact right spot or you will have leaking or replace.

Yeah getting right back to vaping after a dry burn has been a big no-no for me. After a burn, I like to dab alcohol on the coil, then rinse it and let it air dry before using it again. I only dry burn about once a week on any given coil, at the most. usually a good rinse in hot water does okay.

The only issue I can see coming from "cleaning too often" is the top flavor wicks (This is my experience with a bottom coil, mind you) disintegrating faster.

I only clean the tank itself when I'm switching flavors, or when the juice has started to darken after repeated refills.
