Just a note about the distilled water, DW is used to thin the effects of non viscous VG primarily. DW should normally not exceed 5% addition to the total mixture. Meaning, if you have a 10 ml mix of e-liquid, you probably should not introduce any more than .5 ml of DW. If you introduce more, you can significantly reduce the taste of the e-liquid,
To achieve the right amount thinning, the best approach may be by adding tenths (measured drops) of DW to the mixture at a time and taste test.

DW is used to thin VG yes. Again. Again, as noted in the other thread (you aren't really going to get more responses posting the same thing almost twice) you can avoid PG completely and if you are using Max VG, can thin up to 10%. That was the advice in the thread concerning best practices for avoiding harmful temperatures in vaping, due to VG's low boiling point.

I am PG sensitive, and I use 10% water in my mixes now, based on that advice. It IMPROVED my vape quality (both vape itself, and flavor) which I was NOT expecting (I did so rather grudgingly, but I'm glad I tried it).

I also no longer have HOT tanks. Win all the way around....

Actually one forum member (Kurt our resident Chemist) uses water in VG at 20-22% with out an issue and has been for years. 5% water would not thin VG enough to use in some equipment.

Hmm... I do not have a good head for figures and don't retain them? For example, I just gave out my address wrong (AGAIN-- but not to YOU Gearbest :lol::lol:) however, I was dealing with someone with EXCELLENT TOS :)

So you may well be right, SteveS45, but I know I read about it in MikeP's thread, and my experience has confirmed that my temps are lower (seriously, in the a.m., chainvaping, my tanks would get a little hot) and that I prefer the vape. So I'm not sure why exactly it works, I could probably look it up again, and then promptly forget it.

Just sharing my experience, but I'm sure you may be correct. I don't have to always understand why things work (thank goodness) to experience them working like much in my life, actually.... :)

Anna, you understand it correct but typed it wrong. Water lowers the BP of VG

Hey everyone i had a question about making E-Juice.

So i have usp glycerin and i have heard it can be used in place of VG, but i cannot get any PG as to thin the USP, can i use distilled water to thin out the USP? If not what is a good thinner for DIY Juices?
Like others stated yes you can use Distilled water but you will decrease throat hit and thin out your vg so use sparingly. Most Flavorings contain a PG base and in your calculator you can dial in for max VG. I am assuming that you are not using a nic base, if you are then you need to calculate it according to whether your nic base is pg or vg or mixed. A Good calculator will allow those variables.
PG can be ordered online or purchased from your local feed or farm supply store. USP just means that the product was manufactured in accordance to guidelines set forth by US Pharmacopeia. Your E-liquid bases are either Vegetable Glycerin or Propylene Glycol. As you probably know, most people use a mix of the two.
Once you find a good calculator everything should start making sense.
