How is this really a free country when you can't even use a legal substance... even one that is FDA approved? (NRT's) When you have to even know where to locate a urine test to test your pee for a legal substance?

Oh it's so sad. What have we come to?

freedom to do something is not freedom from the consequences.

you have freedom of speach but your employer can still fire you for what you say.

the problem with your theory is you forget where your rights end and someone elses begin

Everybody just keep praying the this country is too far in debt so that they'll have to forget about National Health Care. Who in the H_ _ _ is going to be able to pay MORE TAXES...Now they're saying we need a 10-12% FEDERAL SALES TAX. WHAT, ON TOP OF OUR STATE + LOCAL 5.5% one?? Cripes, we'll be paying more for tax than anything is worth to begin with. STOP THE MADNESS
Here state sales tax is 4.5%, county sales tax is 1.5%, and local township sales tax is 3%. Grand total? A whopping 9% :-x

does my employer own the rights to my body?

No <g> you can do as you please but that doesn't mean that they cant terminate your employement. Subject to a few restrictions they can decide what type of person they wish to hire (thats their right).

Why would you think that you have a right to a job.

So, it is ok for the government to tell a business that they cannot allow smoking, and all are ok with the rights of private business being usurped for that; but it is not ok for the government to interfere with the rights of business to discriminate against smokers? I JUST DON'T GET THAT

No I consider that inapproperate as well.

I don't think I have a right to any job. But I don't feel that it is the right of a government agency to tell me that use of a legal substance is a determining factor for employment.

Now, if my test came back positive for ......., marijuana, ...... etc, that's one thing. But to come back for nicotine, a completely legal substance, that's another, especially when they have government approved forms of the legal substance which they encourage the use of.

This whole discussion really drives home the point that with a good education, life is just plain easier. I am sure the judges that work at that court house aren't spazzing about the no tobacco rules. I am sure everyone is willing to look the other way in order to retain a good (albeit smoking) judge.

Clerks and security guards don't have it as easy as they are far more expendable.

This is really disheartening and makes me VERY glad I am a member of a labor union that protects me from such reprehensible practices.

DW
I wonder about the union sometimes, they are paying the insurance too. I have something going on with them, well dont want to get off subject from ecigs.

I am over 50 and cant get hired Full time, i am part time. Ive seen young guys that speak other languages fly right by me.

Everyone acts like they are routing for me but then when its my turn they all of a sudden come up with a new standard.

The union is the insurance company, no breaks here.

Not in the way you imply

since this is a county government If you dont live in that county No

if you live in that county only in porportion to your vote

Having lived in the area (and being an avid voter) for the past four years, I don't recall there ever being a vote to ban the use of nicotine. Actually, they have a pretty good restriction on the use of tobacco in clubs/restaurants and at 11pm, when the kids should be in bed, many local establishments become adult friendly and allow smoking! It's actually a win win smoking law if you ask me. Allows adults to be adults, families to be out and about without the concerns of smoking, and establishments to offer several different types of atmospheres to cater to different groups of people.

Please, don't get me wrong. I can completely understand any business not wanting people to smoke on company time. I can completely understand them asking if you are a tobacco user, especially if they are going to pay your health insurance. Even on an individual level your insurance premiums are less if you do not smoke. But they aren't asking for tobacco use, they are asking for nicotine. They are two different things.
