Hi. I'm sorry this is probably the same noob question everybody shows up with, but I'm new to vaping and I'm having a problem with some clearomizers. I've got two types of clearomizers, one that unscrews at the base and one that doesn't. I've developed this same bad taste with both of them. I've followed some YouTube tutorials and cleaned out and dry burned them both, which seemed to help initially, but the bad tasted seemed to quickly come back. Did I not dry burn enough? Would it help if I used vodka/alcohol? All I have in the house right now is some whiskey, would that work? Is there nothing wrong with my clearomizers and the problem is actually my tongue? Just trying to get back to a satisfying vape! Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. The place I got the juice from said it was 50/50 VG/PG. Pretty sure I can capably replace the wick on one of these units as it's just laid in the groove and doesn't actually have the coil around the wick itself. It didn't really look burnt though when I took it out. Maybe slightly browned. Where can I get more wick? I actually do want to get a Kanger. Maybe that'll be my next move?

Another +1 for the new wicks, or a new tank (guess you already made the buy) :)

My go-to design has been bottom loading cartomizers with no wick to eliminate this problem. Just make sure you are using a juice that is fairly non-viscous (more PG the better) so that it can seep through the holes to reach the atomizer bridge. Something to try is get a higher percent PG juice with those old cartomizers that tasted burnt to see if that was indeed the problem, not the wicks. Its really hard for the higher percent VG juices to 'wick' as they are much more viscous.

Okay, I took one of the unscrewable-base clearos and trimmed the wick and repositioned it so the new center wasn't browned. It seems better, but we'll see for how long.

That's what I did. Still had a slightly burned taste, I assumed it was from the liquid wicking through the burned portion. After trying a couple of different juices with the same results, I ended up tossing it.

Snicker, I went back and looked and didn't see where you posted the name of the clearo you are using. It always helps to identify the hardware since the mod techniques vary. For instance the Vivi Nova tank, which is wildly popular lately (as well as the Kanger) has the coil wrapped around the wick. It's an efficient design, but there are a few things you can do to cure dry vapes that occur in a small portion of those. Some of those mods are helpful on just about every Vivi Nova I get.

Clue us in and I expect you will get all kinds of relevant answers to your problem.

in my case the rubber inside my vivi nova that separates the positive from negative coil that burns them, i'm not sure whether anybody has encounter this before

I haven't had the coil out of many Vivi Novas, but the few I have disassembled haven't shown the burn marks some have noted where the coil wire passes through the silicone seal. Silicone rubber has a high burn and flash point, so if that is happening it's happening at a high temp. I wonder if it's juice that is leaking down the leads and burning.

Silicone rubber – Elastic, flame-resistant, oil-resistant

Silicone rubber has excellent flame resistance. It has a flash point of 750 °C, an ignition temperature of 450 °C and its LOI values lie well below the critical value of 21 % that approximates the concentration of oxygen in air. (LOI is the abbreviation for limiting oxygen index, which is a measure of the flammability of polymers in oxygen/nitrogen mixtures of different composition).
