i am really trying to make vaping work, but as it is, i am still smoking. i did however go from a pack+ a day to ...well, a pack will last me about 3 days. i guess baby steps are good, but most people just kick the habit right off the back.
tomorrow i should get my 510 kit with the ce-2 ceramic cartos. i really want to make this work. has anyone had the same troubles?

Hi pelican :) Yes, I am having the same problem. I am trying so hard but, haven't been able to completely stop the analogs. A pack will last me about 3 days as well so I am doing much better.....I just can't walk away yet. Don't give up! We can do this!

definately! i think i have the hardest time when drinking and while driving (not at the same time). it's good to know i'm not the only one ;)

Took me just under 2 months to quit smoking after my first vape. I now have over two months without a analog. Keep at it you can get there. Get you some high nicotine juice for those times you feel like you need a smoke. I had to go up 36mg before i could quit. After a month i dropped down with no problems. Just chalk it up to your not much of a quitter and have to work at it harder then others. :)

"Most people" don't just kick the habit, I assure you. I have a feeling, though, that those lucky ones who do are the most likely to report their easy victory. The rest of us are not so lucky. There've been countless threads on this forum starting just like this one. You're not alone.

We're all different; some quit right away, some struggle for a long time, some give up, some realize that vaping alone will not do the trick for them and seek help from snus, dissolvable tobacco (Ariva, Stonewall), or CigRX.

A third of a pack compared to a pack+ a day in a few short days is a victory. Don't count the cigs you're smoking, count those you haven't smoked. And don't give up. Have fun with it. New habits are notoriously hard to form and take a very long time.

Welcome to ECF and good luck. We're here to support you, to answer questions and to cheer you on. You're fighting one of the most powerful addictions known to men. Don't kid yourself. It's not going to happen overnight.

Hey Pelican :) My two cents here. Like the others I didn't stop smoking analogs right off the bat and I still get the urge after 2mo. from time to time. That said, before I quit I had moved to a cheaper cigarette trying to save money. I really didn't like them but "Hey, they smoked". I play a mind game and tell myself if e-cigs were all there were to smoke it's better then nothing. Over time the urge for a real cigarette has steadily decreased and now when I have my coffee in the morning or a mixed drink in the evening I don't even think about it as I puff away on my e-cig. It just feels natural. It just takes time for some of us.

I'm still smoking too and it's been about three weeks since I started vaping. I will say that for me, I think it's more to do with the model I bought. I got one of those automatic battery types that looks like a real cigarette and they just don't work for me. I'm hoping to receive my eGo and my DIY supplies for mixing my own juice today. I think that will be the combination that will work for me to be able to put down the analogs for good. At least that's what I'm hoping for!

Don't beat yourself up because you haven't quit the analogs just yet. It's great that some people got the right PV and juice for them to quit the first day. However, it really is different for everyone. I hope you find the combination that works for you! Even if it doesn't completely get you off the analogs, that's okay too, as long as you've cut way down on what you do smoke.

I don't know, I am sure its different for everyone, but after about 3 days I tried an analog again and almost died. The dam thing tasted like crap, I really wanted it to taste good and enjoy it too.

What I found to help is keep some juice (or carto) around in "traditional tobacco" flavor AND at a high nic level.

The first few months I kept some liquidXpress cartos on hand "The original" is the flavor and its the best tobacco substitute I found. I also purchased them in 26mg where as I normally vape 12-18 mg.

If I was craving a real cig, I would screw one of those bad boys on and it would do the trick. Between the nasty tobacco flavor and the high nic, it gave a rough TH and cured my craving in 5-6 hits.
I still keep them on hand, but i don't think I have hit off of one in 3 months or more.

Give it a try.

Ah, discouraged by the "stopped smoking the minute my PV arrived" bit.

Yeah, um, they are not the majority.

I can tell you have not found your juice yet. It wasn't until I found a juice that would work for me that I knew I could stop smoking. And even after finding that first juice it took time.

I just vaped when I could, smoked when I had to, and sone day realized I didn't remember to smoke the day before.

And some folks need more than a PV can provide, but you won't know which type you are until you find your juice.

Good Luck!

Like Firehorse, i believe the system i bought has the most to do with why I am still smoking analogs. I am currently researching the Riva and the eGo which i hope will work better with the delicious juice i have bought from viking Vapor... and I think looking into getting a higher nic juice might be a good idea for me too (thanks, guys!). I am still smoking close to the same amount as when i started vaping about threeish weeks ago but hope that when I find the right combo it will all just fall into place.... I have had friends tell me they quit analog cigarettes in 1-3 days after they tried vaping but i'm just not one of those people and neither are you and that's ok. You will get there eventually just like i will. :)

Glad to hear alot of us are NOT alone! With my first kit, I was still smoking analogs, didn't cut down a bit. Then I got a 510 and smoked way less, but still smoked. Now I have a Riva and a 510 passthrough and I am down to 1 a day and some weeks I have gone 4 to 5 days with NONE. But there really ARE times I just HAVE to have a REAL smoke and break down. I feel sooooooooooooo much better after that and try really hard not to feel guilty. After reading this thread, I don't feel guilty at all, just thankful I'm not the only one. I know know, maybe it's harder for menthol smokers? The hardest part is trying to fathom how the hell did I spend soooooooooooo much money on these e-cigs?! But now that I'm stocked up on extra batteries, atomizers, carts, and juice I don't see me spending like I did! Good luck and hang in there with yourself. I am finding it really helps to come here and read and see that I am NOT alone.

I can tell you have not found your juice yet. It wasn't until I found a juice that would work for me that I knew I could stop smoking. And even after finding that first juice it took time.

It took two things for me.

First, discovering just exactly how utterly delicious vanilla is. I'll try anything, and I'll even use crap I don't like much because I hate to waste, but when I want a good, solid vape, one that I'll really enjoy...it's vanilla every time. This really helped a lot. I'd so way rather have a vanilla vape than a cigarette. The flavor just does something amazing to my brain.

When I'm in situations where I might be overly tempted to smoke, I always bring some vanilla juice with me. If I find myself about to bum a Camel from someone, I just vape a couple of drops of that instead and usually forget all about it by the time it's time to drip again.

Conversely, my first couple of tries with ejuice were all tobacco flavored. I finally realized that I was just holding on to something that I was also trying to let go of. Quitting with that stuff helped a lot, I think, but I can definitely see how the opposite would be true for some types. It's just better for me the less I'm reminded of smoking.

Second thing...don't buy cigarettes. Nicotine addiction is only a small part of the total smoking problem. The habit is huge. The idea of lighting a cig, feeling that first puff in your lungs, smelling the smoke...these are things that your body and mind associate with the relief of smoking when you need to. Vaping is close, but it doesn't fully emulate that sensation.

If you have cigarettes, you are going to smoke them. If you don't, you're going to do the next best thing, which is vape. Vape your ... off, be stupid about it...drip a whole mil in one sitting if you want. When you do this, if you're using a juice you love like I love vanilla juice, it won't take long for that feeling of relief to reassociate with this new habit.

Also, I found dripping to be pretty analogous to lighting a cigarette...you get about one cig's worth of vaping out of the 2-3 drops you can fit in a 510 atty, and that helped a lot, too. Pull out the PV, the bottle, unscrew, drip-drip-drip, vape...same thing as pull out the cig pack, the lighter, take out a cig, light, smoke. But better.

Apparently, I am one of the few that was able to quit when I received my e-cig. I was introduced to e-cigs by my boyfriend's sister when she came up to visit from LA last summer. I forget which model she had but it wasn't a great one, it did however make me curious enough to begin my own quest to find one. I checked all the stores around me and all I could find was the "smoking everywhere" brand but I could not justify spending the 100+ for their starter kit.

I then took to the internet for my search and stumbled across this site. I spent probably a week or so going through the forum and researching the different models available and settled on a 510.

I received my 510 mid Aug 2009 and have had maybe 5 analogs since then. Once to see if it was still enjoyable (which it was not) and the other times because my battery died and I didn't have a spare or because I forgot my PCC or forgot to charge it.

When I got my 510 I also ordered some extra parts because my boyfriend also smoked but I wasn't sure if he was going to go for a PV but to my surprise he did. He however has had a much harder time giving up the analogs. He'll go days without one and then buy a pack. It didn't seem to matter what level nic he had, he just was not getting the satisfaction out of it that he got from analogs. He was also frustrated with having to constantly swap batteries. He was a pack - a pack and a half a day smoker where as I was at about 1/2 to 3/4 of a pack a day.

About a 2 months ago, it was time to replace batteries and I decided it was time to try the eGo. This seemed to help him alot - instead of being able to go days without an analog, he was going weeks. Last week I got a couple cartomizers that one of the members here sent me so i could try them out. One was LR and the other was a regular. I gave the LR to my boyfriend and he has been very pleased with the increased performance coupled with no longer having to swap batteries all day long. I'm hoping that this is the answer for him. If not we'll just keep trying different combos until we find something that works for him.

The important thing to remember is that there are several models available for a reason. Everyone is different. It might take a few tries to figure out what works for you. Just don't give up.
