I joined this forum a while back but as I'm a member of several others and am spending a lot of time fighting the EU e-cig ban, I just discovered that I can't post anywhere but here!
I live in the UK, been vaping for 6 months and I'm very angry that politicians want me to start smoking again.
I've written to all my representatives and had two replies, one that is a copy of the pro-vaping Martin Callaghan letter and two from an MEP who knows nothing about vaping, proves it by quoting the discredited 'vaping harms the lungs' study funded by Pfizer who weren't declared, a study that never passed being an abstract and was never peer-reviewed. Her second letter expressed concern anput the 'dangers of trace amounts of proplylene glycol'.

I've almpst finished a third letter to this person as at least she thanked me for sending her some truly independant studies.

Welcome to ECF. You can only post in New Members till you have 5 posts then you can post elsewhere.

There is a link around here somewhere for a petition on the UK ban. Might check the UK Forums. Even some of us not from the UK have signed it. These ban attempts need to stop. But the governments want their taxes.

There are several UK petitions, the important one being ECITA, but that one only seems to work if you put something in 'comments'. A German one seems to be doing very well.
And I signed at least one US petition.
In Australia, where they have banned eliquid, anybody can import it for personal use, up to 3 months worth. It seems as though the EU won't have that loophole.

I'm hoping I will be able to do a little more than give advise to people here soon. I've got US twitter followers and a decent rep on some UK forums so the 5 posts before you can post rule is a little annoying. I really felt I couldn't say 'hellp' five times. :)

Welcome to ECF AnnaLaw. It's good to see people like you fighting the good fight!

Oh, saying "Help" 5 times in here would have worked fine; as long as you clicked your heels each time :)

Thanks Ken62. I'm no Dorothy so I'd probably have said 'can I help'. :)
I usually check out a few new user questions in the UK forums I'm a member of, try to be helpful.

Welcome AnnaLaw !
I am so so sorry that you-we must fight our governments and ignorance about something so trivial as wither someone vapes.
First, and most importantly, it is none of their business what an individual does as long as it has no detrimental effect to others.
Make them do a study to show that it has any effect on anyone else- can't, because it doesn't !
Second, this type of meddling with rights is a slippery slope- it is counter productive to freedom, equality and economy.
Third, Vaping is a very good thing- people can and do stop smoking the ciggys, some cut back on their Nicotene intake and it produces a better societal result of healthy individuals and a cleaner enviorment.

I could go on, but really- on a whole, I do not believe the governments have a real scientific leg to stand on. They will not independently fund the nessessary study's to confirm that vapping Nicotene is a neutral, worse or is in fact, better than smoking.
So, does it come down to meddling with an individual's rights, loss of taxaction revenue or denial of technological advancement and the betterment of society?

I wish you well in your struggles with ignorance.

Having returned after a spell on other forums, I find I can now post elsewhere here. :2cool:
So I've just posted a long tome about the regulatory captured agency in the Uk that could possibly ban vaping at the end of March this year.
People have concentrated so much on other threats, but what can one do about an unelected government agency? If I hit them with both my Vamo and Lavatube I'd just get sent to prison where vaping would be banned but cigarettes, alcohol, ...... and ....... could be bought illegally with the greatest of ease (or so I've read).
