I've been using my protank 2 on my mech mod for a few days now, and for the first few days it was fine (I was using a 1 ohm coil that I rebuilt). It started flooding so I rebuilt the coil and added some new wick. Initially it was fine, but after an hour or so, burning and lots of it. I rebuilt it again and again getting about the same results, and I've never had a problem with a rebuilt coil on my apv. Is it possible that there is some vacum seal not working on the tank? I'm not entirely sure what's going on..

I'm using cotton wick, I preboil all of my cotton as well so its not that nasty chemical flavor, its definitely a burn
I personally use ekowool when I rebuild those heads. Try to put a flavor wick in there also. Are you getting decent airflow through the tank?
i am getting an okay draw from the tank, but i just get a mixture of nasty burnt taste and starbuzz... it's pretty gross. I've tried the heads on my apv too, and the burnt taste is definitely still there, although not as strong as it is on the mech obviously because of the higher current.
Just read it was on a mech mod (sorry about that). If you are at 1ohm at say the average 3.7 volts you are actually pushing about 14 watts. I would say to build it to maybe 1.3-.4 to keep them from burning.
cotton balls or cotton yarn? if youre using cotton balls the wick may be rolled too tight to support the juice flow youre trying to get
I've seen a few people firing these things sub ohm, so I don't entirely see why it doesnt work... also, i tried a higher resistance coil in one of my many rebuilds to see if it was that, but i still got the same issue.

I would say change the wick and put a flavor wick on top and give that shot I guess. Other than that I am all out of ideas as it seems that you have covered mostly everything.
Well my protank 2 is getting old, I'm starting to think the o-rings aren't giving a good seal anymore. I don't see any leaks, but it could potentially explain why I'm getting these dry hits. Good thing I have a new aerotank coming on Thursday. Thanks for all the help guys!
Is it possible your insulator at the bottom of the build burnt? Where the pin goes. I've done that twice. AWFUL taste. There's no getting around that one, other than to replace the insulator.
One trick I just learned on the Protank coils is to take the silicone shield off the chimney part and reverse it. I had so many issues on Protank Protank 2 with burnt tastes I use VV/VW's not mech mods. Once I tried this I was amazed how much better it was and no flooding.
I agree with the insulator being burnt that can give that taste. This can happen if you dry burn too much after cleaning or constantly run at a higher voltage or wattage.
I've had that burnt insulator taste before, that taste is disgusting... I'm going to try and flip the silicone chimney and report back. It doesn't taste at all like a burnt insulator, but I'll take a look at that too.
I've seen this a lot, why does flipping it do anything? I just remove mine entirely. Flipping it means that it's not blocking the flow, I get that. By why leave it in there if it's not doing anything?

Sounds like it might be your insulator. I'd tear it down and check for scorch marks. If that's the case try another head to rebuild on.
What gauge wire did you use? people using heavy wire (like 28 or 26 ga) need more watts than people using thinner wire. So you can't just go by ohms. Wire matters.
I've had a few I rebuilt burn the insulator at the bottom. Sometimes when I'm not careful, sometimes for no reason I can figure out. Almost all taste problems I've had with rebuilt Kanger coils ends up being insulator related.
