I posted this in response to someone in the new user forums; but it was buried in 11 pages and I was curious if anyone else had had this kind of success and failure.. the rollercoaster(tm) I am calling it.

I have been thinking of going 0 nic for this reason.

I start vaping and quit smoking.. 4th time now. I end up getting weaned off cigarettes and I run out of vape supplies and just stop vaping. Then one night I'll go have some beers with a smoking friend, and they of course love nothing more than to bum me a smoke. 2 or 3 days later I am buying a pack because I am out of supplies, batteries are all over the place, out of charge, all my tanks and carto's have months old caramel looking juice in them. Also its more expensive to build back up the supplies and/or takes longer to order some of my favorite items.

4 months later of being a full time smoker and realizing i am a tard for letting a few beers get me back into smoking, im back to restocking and getting back into vaping.

This time, I'm hoping I can stay prepared for that time... if I go 0 nic, I can have my cake and eat it too. Hopefully with that in my plan, I can stop the roller coaster.

Yea I hear ya! Drinking has a way of just making ya think, ".. Ahh it'll be alright!" lol

My main problem is months down the line, supplies are dried up, the next morning I find a pack I forgot I bought (lol I dont often go on bender's, but I'm talking worst case scenario) have one for hangover.. next thing ya know... Gooooosh Dangit!!!! I'm buying a pack with my head held low at the gas station.

Anyone else have these kind of long term relapses, has anyone come up with a plan for these kinds of problems? I know I'm not the only one that gets hammered every once in awhile and ends up at a strip club (heck even my ol' lady does! hah!)

Ok, yeah, I vape more when drinking too... love vaping. But the problem lies in the fact that after 6 months of vaping, I just kinda quit vaping.... Not that I am like... Oh I gotta quit this.. I just one day forget to vape, and I am done. No hard feelings or problems that I WANT to quit.. It just gets me out of the habit i guess.

3 months later of not smoking OR vaping is when the problem arises. Just curious if anyone else has hit the rollercoaster with me and knows how to beat it, or if I'm just a long term addict, so to speak. (non-drug user!!)

(ECF edited the drug out of my post so i had to change my post up)

I also plan to step down to 0 nic, and I've probably smoked a total of 10 packs or so since I started vaping. Although I never completely stopped vaping during those times, much of my smoking also happened when drinking with friends or when my equipment broke down. I started at 24mg nine months ago and am vaping 10mg now, working my way down over the next few weeks to 6mg. I'll likely stay at 6 for a while.

I want to overcome my nicotine addiction and continue to vape. I'm also sick of the FDA's ........ and want to get off of THAT roller coaster.

SO far, the best thing I can recommend doing is having a backup of my backup, for my backup. Take a stockpile mentality. Figure out how much you vape a day, order 3 months worth based on averages. Have more backups, juice, chargers, charged batteries, tanks, wicks ( or wicking material.) than you are possibly going to need for a few hours out at the bar. Then you may leave the house.

Currently, I won't even hit the grocery store without two full charged backup batteries, 50 ml of juice, two extra heads, and two extra tanks. I'm not going to get caught unawares. That's the best thing I can recommend. Bulk up on juice, batteries, tanks, clearos, chargers.. whatever. Then pack an emergency kit and take it with you. The way I see it is, I'm fighting for my life here. Might as well not be caught unprepared.

I do tie one on occasionally, but this has never happened to me. I just subscribe to the 'have backups for your backups' thing. I never let myself have less than a month of juice on hand. I typically rotate between three PVs through the day, so I usually have five power supplies and a bunch of juice delivery devices on hand and keep the batteries charged. Basically I just make sure I don't run out of vaping supplies. I don't smoke when I drink, I just vape more and I vape stronger juices that I really like. If I did have a smoke I suspect one would be it. It doesn't cost me any more to be stocked up because I will be using everything eventually.

I guess for me it's just a matter of not letting myself get into your situation. It probably helps greatly that I have added motivation from knowing that if I start smoking again I will have serious health consequences soon. Best of luck with it!

once a nicotine addict always a nicotine addict. I quit smoking for 7 years and then started again......Look don't beat yourself up over having one cigarette. Just don't ever buy a pack. That was my down fall. I would have maybe one cigarette a year during those 7 years. Problem is I bought a pack while drinking and that was it, back to smoking for the last year.

keep some of those njoy disposables on you when you drink, they're supposed to be the most realistic cigarette experience.

i had wine last night while we were prepping everything for easter dinner today. didn't even have the urge. i'm pleased to be free. but then again when i drink i drink at home with a bunch of other non-smokers. I didn't like bars even when i did smoke.

drinking is the #1 cause of relapsing for almost any addiction lol especially analogs.

I quit analogs for about 6 mo's (also quit drinking too) .. the 1 night i went out drinking was the night i bought a pack and continued to smoke for another 2 years until i found the wonderful hobby known as vaping recently.

I agree with most of the people here.. when I go out.. i bring a ton of stuff lol.. 2 extra batteries.. a tank/clearo/carto and 2 bottles of juice.. just in case. you never know when the Apocalypse will happen!

I don't drink, but I can attest to still wanting a cigarette once in a while. Whenever I'm working on my bike or car I usually, but not always, have a cigarette or two I'm sad to say. Luckily, I don't work on either of them a whole lot, at least not during the winter months. In the 8+ months I've been vaping I've had less than a pack of cigarettes, sounds horrible to me, but it's a lot better than a pack+ a day.

Fight the roller coaster. I quit over 7 times and it started sticking when I turned 50. Man! So true. Once an addict always and addict. At least now the trend is addict in recovery. Like a norm now. Well that's me! Full time recovering addict. My success at it is one of my greatest achievements. Kinda sad huh. Oh well. Vaping is fun and guilt free. Why bother to stop it?
