3.7v x 3.7v / 1.5 ohms = 9.12 watts (4.56 watts per coil)

9.12 watts / 3.7v = 2.466 amps

With a single coil 3.0 ohm carto/atty:

3.7v x 3.7v / 3 ohms = 4.56 watts (4.56 watts per coil)

4.56 watts / 3.7 volts = 1.23 amps

For a "warmer" vape:

3.7v x 3.7v / 2 ohms = 6.85 watts at the coil

6.85 watts / 3.7 volts = 1.85 amps. Warmer vape than with the 1.5ohm dual coil, much lower amp draw.

I did all that math before. Kinda a point i have made time and time again. 1.5 to 1.6 is pushing the amp limit. Also check your cartos with a meter to see what they actually measure.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply that you hadn't done the math. I apologize for the "friendly fire" that came your way during the conduct of my undeclared "War on Dual Coils".

And [to all] one more time:

Boge single coil 2.0 or 3.0 ohm cartos:

Crystal Clear Vaping $1.45 each for 15

Boge Mix n Match (5 Boxes) .92 each if you buy 25 ($23 for 5 boxes of five 2.0/3.0)

at this point I honestly don't care, I'm looking to get something as inexpesive as I can right now since the budget is extremely tight. Right now I have a 510-T but both batts are toast.

No wonder they died out. You can not use low resistance cartos on those batteries. You shouldn't use anything lower than 2.4ohm on batteries under 450mah

yeah when I got them I didn't read the box well enough, Once I got home and saw that my batt was tanking after 5 mins I looked closer and saw they were 1.5ohm DCC's. Lack of funding just kept me from getting different cartos though so I should be making an order friday when my wife gets paid.

So glad I'm not the only one who feels this way... Those dual coils are nothing but a gimmick, IMO. They mow through your battery (and your juice) like there's no tomorrow, and if your battery cannot deliver the Amps, the voltage goes down... Most people using DCC don't even know that they are vaping at lower voltages. The Ohm's Law is unforgiving...:)

Not to mention the fact that even though the resistance of the carto reads 1.5Ω, you're really using two 3.0Ω coils, thus getting twice the vapor but none of the additional heat from the coil. It's just like vaping two 3.0Ω cartos at the same time.

Just sayin'... ;)

Hmmm ... how do "Like" a post more than once? It only lets me vote once. As a Democrat, I find that annoying. :)

Just to hammer home what I see as the benefits of one coil over two:

"If you can cook your dinner on one burner instead of two, you'll save energy. If you vape on one coil, I think your "dinner" will taste better, too.

It's always seemed to me that both coils are unlikely to be equally well-saturated, one being above the other. They each get the same amount of energy, so they'll be about the same temperature. It seems to me that one will either make the vape taste a little burned, or be a little on the cool side.

Still looking for that compelling reason to use two. I get plenty of vapor with one".

There's a very good reason I vape dual coil cartos and not single coil cartos: I like them better. Citing your opinion as fact in a matter that is subject to an individual's taste is kind of silly. A 1.5 ohm dual coil carto at 5 to 5.5 volts makes me happy, so that's what I (and plenty of other vapers) use. My device (and batteries) can handle the amp draw safely. I would never expect a dual coil carto to perform well at the voltage that an eGo or kGo provides. There are vapers who *do* use dual coil cartos at lower voltages, and are happy with it.

Taste is subjective. Other people's opinions can be helfpul, but take them with a grain of salt.

I hear ya man, I have a couple of the Vivi Nova tanks and some Kanger HCs, and they are awesome, but those come with a higher price tag compared to the good old Boges on sale. Ya know? Mostly, the tanks are for home use if you ask me. Too bulky to lug around. Now the Vivi mini sounds interesting though, but wouldn't that basically be like the stardust?

Aha, found a recent video from LordDavon on the mini. Looks pretty interesting for out and about. Vision Vivi Nova 2ML Mini Tank Review - YouTube

While they may be big for your device, to say they cost more is strictly up to the user. For roughly $10 I have enough supplies to recoil the heads of my vivi nova for about a year. Add that too the $20 (figuring shipping in there) to get it to start with, and I have about $30 tied up, can't touch cartos for that long for that price.

Dual coils require twice the amount of power that single coils do to warm each coil to a given temperature. [Fact]

Please do not use dual coils on ANY device without a compelling reason to do so. [Reasonable request]

Using a single coil will allow you to use higher voltage (assuming you have a variable voltage device) which will reduce the amp draw and extend battery life. If you use dual coils because you just think that two must be better than one, I'd encourage you to run some numbers and re-think that. [Fact; reasonable request]

(Volts x volts / resistance = watts) [Fact]

(Watts / volts = amps) [Fact]

Lower amp draw = better battery life. [Fact]

Great deals on Boge single-coil cartomizers:

3.7v x 3.7v / 1.5 ohms = 9.12 watts (4.56 watts per coil) [Fact]

9.12 watts / 3.7v = 2.466 amps [Fact]

3.7v x 3.7v / 3 ohms = 4.56 watts (same 4.56 watts per [1] coil) [Fact]

I use single coils on my VMax as well as my Twists. I like the extra battry life it gives me on either device.

I find that I get plenty of vapor from a single coil. You seem to be fine with the decreased battery life because you like something about the vape from two coils. Great.

I will still advise people not to use dual coils without a compelling reason; or at least to try comparing single coils to dual coils to see if the decreased battery life is worth whatever difference in performance you perceive, or if single coils seem to work jut fine for you.

And please refrain from judgments like "silly", and please just state your opinions. Thanks.

I was giving my experiences with dual coil cartomizers. I think we can better serve the new vapers in this community by providing choices, and make them aware of both the pros and cons of what's out there.

Please refrain from judgments like "I don't like dual coil cartomizers, so neither should you", and please just state your opinions. Thanks.

The fact you like dual coil is fine, however the facts are simple and opinions can not change ohms law. While there are a lot of people out there like you who seem to like dual coil, I would be willing to bet that a lot of those people have nothing to base it off of, as most of the sites don't give you an option for lr for in tanks other than dc's. If you have used both and know which you prefer and the battery issue isn't a concern for you then thats great for you.

Please keep in mind tho the OP was using very very small batteries, nothing along the lines of the provari you have, and this thread is about what his needs are.

I never argued anything about Ohm's Law. Dual coil cartos give a warmer more intense vape... that's why "people like me" use them. Single coil carto's are dry, scratchy, and have less flavor compared to dual coil cartomizers (to my taste). The thing you guys don't seem to understand is that people are different. What works for me may not be what works for you, but I'm not going to put down what you use just because it isn't what I use. I didn't discover dual coil cartomizers on my own until I had been vaping for a few months. I wish someone would have pointed out the benefits of them, and I would have saved a lot of money searching for something that worked for me other than dripping. People come here looking for info... if you give them your opinion and hammer it in as gospel, you are doing them a disservice.

You do bring up good points about the OP's equipment. Following your logic, everything after the 2nd page is moot because he stated he was going to purchase some SR single coil cartomizers. The last 2 pages of dual coil bashing has just been for fun then? In the face of all of that, I felt the need to point out that there are vapers out there that DO like using dual coil cartomizers. It's an alternative for people who find the single coil vaping experience to be less than satisfying and still want a tankable option.

Having never said that, I don't see the need for you to ask me to refrain from doing it.

I also don't understand the "warmer" part, given what I know about volts, ohms, and watts. To me, it seems that the only possible difference between the vapes would be the total amount of vapor due to more surface area of actual coil, which as always lead me to think that the optimum vape might be had on a very high resistance single coil, like a Bulli A2-TM atomizer with a coil wound to say 6-7 ohms and fired by a Smoktech VMax version 1.0 turned up almost all the way. (Woohoo!)

And as always, it has always seemed to me that the two coils would not be equally saturated. It's also interesting to me that AFAIK every rebuildable tank/atty is single coil, leading to believe that perhaps not all that many people (%-wise) think that the its are dry, scratchy, and have less flavor.

(Speaking of flavor, can you offer any scientifically sound reason that flavor would be better with two coils than with one? TIA)

Now now, let's not get out of hand here. Everyone is free to post opinions. And I agree, just like juice is subjective, so is hardware. I have to admit, I kind of got the feeling that some DC bashing was going on here. LOL

I happen to use DCs quite a bit, and I enjoy them. I even used them on my Lavatube without any noticeable issue. I always had a fresh battery in the charger too.

So... that being said... carry on. Peace ;)

Oh, I totally agree. It's the initial investment that carries the cost. I haven't gotten to the point where I need to recoil the attys yet, but I sure intend to give it a try. Where did you get your rebuild stuff? What ohm did you decide on, and how much?

I got the wire on ebay instead of the Kanthal A-1 32 awg tho I got the Kanthal A-1 33 awg as was only $7 something including shipping for 100', for the wicks I am using 100% cotton crochet thread from wal mart. I can't tell you ohm as I don't currently have an ohm meter, but 4 wraps and it vapes great on my BB so it is lr.
